Dynamic Management of Digital Rights for Long-term Preservation：the Expert System Approach

This presentation focuses on the complex issue of managing digital rights for long-term preservation. It describes the strategy and the methodology adopted within the SPAR project (French National Library), which rely on a special kind of knowledge-based system.

Digital Rights Management：Model,Technology and Application

with rapid achievement of current information technology and computing ability and applications,much more digital content such as films,cartoons,design drawings,office documents and software source codes are produced in daily work,however to protect the content being copying,shared or deliberately stolen by inside or outside,digital rights management(DRM) became more and more important for digital content protection.In this paper,we studied various DRM model,technology and application,and first proposed DRM Security Infrastructure(DSI),in which we defined encryption,hash,signature algorithm,watermarking algorithms,authentication,usage control,trusted counter,conditional trace,secure payment,and based on the DSI we then proposed a whole classification approach and architecture of all kinds of DRMs,in which we proposed 6 typical classes of copyrights and content protection DRMs architecture:(1) Software-oriented DRM,(2) e Book-oriented DRM,(3) Video-oriented DRM,(4) Image-Oriented DRM(5) Unstructured data oriented DRM,(6) Text-oriented DRM.Based on the above DSI,we then proposed a dynamic DRM model selection method for various DRM application,which can be adapted dynamically for different technology of different applications,which can provide awhole solution for variant DRM development in a rapid and customized mode.The proposed DRM method,technology and application in this paper provided a common,flexible and extendable solution for variant DRM scenes,and can support rapid and customized development.Moreover,we proposed an opinion that the future life will enter into a new era that the content usage and consumption will not again adopt DRM technology rather than with law,liberty and morality.

Global Memory Net and the development of digital image information management system: Experience and practice

Global Memory Net (GMNet) is intended to be an effective gateway to the world cultural, historical, and heritage image collections from selected academic educational and research partners in the world. Much of these unique collections of great value to education and research are not currently accessible due to distance, form, and technical barriers. This project is to find new ways to enable users to access and exploit these significant research collections via global network. As GMNet is ending its first 5-year phase in October 2005, it has contributed substantially to the community building in digital library development by ac- commodating numerous collaborators and technical staff from various parts of the world to spend 3 to 5 months as a full-member of the GMNet team in Boston. They have come from different parts of China—such as Sichuan, Hainan, Shanghai and Xi’an; Croatia; and Hanoi, Vietnam. In addition to contribute to the overall system development and enhancement of system function- alities, they have brought valuable sample image collections of their own institutions/countries, and actually developed prototype collections as a part of GMNet. This paper describes the exciting and productive experience of the first of this visiting research group in developing the GMNet’s Version 2.0 PHP-based system under Prof. Chen’s overall supervision. It also describes both the system’s technical level structure—user/Web-based application/data, and complex functionalities with multi-collection, multi-lingual, multi-modal searching capabilities; system management capabilities; as well as provisions for user uploads and retrieval for our own projects. This Version 2.0 system is built on the Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL platform. What is described in this paper is an actual case which has formed a base for further new development by others in the research group. An experiment on digital library based on the method of TQM system

The principles and methods of TQM (total quality management) were applied to digital library management. TQM puts emphasis on process control and continual improvement. The TQM theories and measures explained clearly in this paper were the scientific tools used in the experiment in the Wenzhou University Digital Library. This paper deals with a very broad range of subjects related to a digital library: system model of TQM for digital library, organization structure, and tasks of Wenzhou University Digital Library, task flow chart of electronic reading room, cause and effect of electronic reading room quality man- agement, systematic model of enhancing electronic information acquisition rate, quality comparison of electronic reading room service, etc.

Home Network and Digital Rights Management Technology

The home network is a major concern for the growth of digital and information society. Yet, how to guarantee the security of its digital content and protect the legal benefits for each section of the value chain becomes a crucial "bottleneck" in the home network development. The Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology provides total solution for usage, storage, transfer, and tracing the digital contents and rights. Its basic features are systematic and controllability. Considering the growth of the new media and services and the requirements of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection in a home network, it's necessary to solve consistency problems in usage, storage, and transfer of contents and rights. In addition, it is inevitable to conduct researches of key techniques such as end-to-end secure transmission, conditional access and play, and right description.

Management Communication in University’s Digital Library

Digital library is a process of exploiting more scientific methods to construct a social knowledge network. It represents an “extension” from a traditional library. The core and essence is to build a favorable surroundings for knowledge accumulation, knowledge transfer and knowledge communication. Management communication covers information transfer and organization cooperation. Compared with traditional library, the management communication in digital library shoulders the commitment to support knowledge innovation. On the basis of analysis of the connotation of digital library, this paper analysed the aspects of management communication, including communicators, communication styles, contents, channels and outer communication, all of which tries to construct an integrated model of management communication in a digital library and turns a library into an actual “knowledge fountain”.

A DRM System Based on Mobile Agent for Digital Rights Redistribution

We propose a digital rights management （DRM） system based on mobile agent to protect the copyrights of content providers. In the system, the content provider creates a time limited blackbox out of an original agent and dispatches it to the user end to enforce DRM functions. The blackbox is an agent that can resist the attacks from the malicious user in a certain time interval. Owing to digital rights redistribution support, the user whose rights belong to redistribution category can transfer his rights to other users. Moreover, by introducing public key infrastructure （PKI） and certificate authority （CA） role, the security of the session can be ensured. An analysis of system security and performance and a comparison with traditional DRM system is given.

A Novel Digital Rights Management Scheme in P2P Networks

P2P networking is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads between peers. How to integrate P2P networks and DRM to offer a novel content distribution mode for digital media resources is a significant research project. In this paper, a novel DRM architecture in P2P Networks is proposed, three phases include content provide phase, content purchase phase and content access phase, are modeled, and key technologies are introduced. Finally analysis indicates that the proposed scheme has the characteristics of security, controllability and scalability.

A Digital Right Management Model for Distribution of Digital Audiovisual Content

This paper presents a digital rights management model, which considers the integrated factors including legality, communication security, integrity of the content, and trading fairness. The architecture of the model, the necessary protocol for the copyright control and content distribution, the authentication mechanism which offer consumption registration for content fair distribution, of the model are all provided. The scheme also provides distribution and evidence for using the copyright of digital content fairly and effectively. Finally, analysis shows the proposed model has both high security and good performance.

Towards a self healing information system for digital libraries

An important area of focus in complex systems development is the capability to adapt to variable runtime environmental resources and to accommodate runtime system failures. The research in this area is broadly termed as “Self Healing” and has recently aroused increasing attention to complex systems. Digital libraries have gained popularity because of the richer features they provide compared to traditional libraries. As more users begin to use digital libraries, addressing downtimes of these valuable resources has become a high priority. Operating and providing access to digital content to anyone, anytime from anywhere in the world, results in a continued rise of administrative overhead for system monitoring and needs continuous human intervention. Given the volume of information and the huge infrastructure of modem libraries, continuous manual system administration is quite costly and not feasible. In this paper we propose a self healing digital library system as the solution to this problem and present the approach of adding self healing capabilities to an existing digital library project, the Digital Library of India （DLI）. We also propose a self healing framework that enables successful reuse of our approach to other architecturally similar digital library systems.

A New Thinking of the Objects Served Relationship Management in Complex System

Take a digital libraries＇ service system for example, Objects Served Relationship Management （OSRM） in complex systems is proposed firstly as a new concept, and its connotation is explained. The significances and constructions of OSRM are analyzed. Both the fundamental facts and the important natures that the things which are interested by Objects Served （OS） （e. g. publishers and readers） and the server （e. g. digital libraries are the servers of publishers and readers） will not be the same completely although there are a lot of common benefits between OS and servers, are indeed clarified. The valuable information,which should be used by OS and their server, is often hidden behind them. Thus, how to find, manage and control the relationship among OS and their servers is very necessary and important for the common benefits among all of them.（e. g. the three dimensions of OSRM in digital library system and its overall framwork are proposed. The different strategies to different cases in the digital library＇s multidimensional framework are analyzed.）

The Digital Fingerprinting Method for Static Images Based on Weighted Hamming Metric and on Weighted Container Model

The algorithm of fingerprint constructing for still images based on weighted image structure model is proposed. The error correcting codes that are perfect in weighted Hamming metric are used as a base for fingerprint constructing.

From institutional merger integration to institutional strategic transformation:A case study of the strategic management paradigm at Shanghai Library

This article attempts to apply the strategic management theory to the subsequent shaping up of a readjusted strategic development policy for Shanghai Library after its merger with the Institute of Scientific and Technological Information of Shanghai(ISTIS)in 1995.It also tries to analyze and explicate such an empirical implementation of institutional reintegration process through strategic management at Shanghai Metropolitan Library.By doing so,it aims to present an objective case study of activities based on the strategic management paradigm at a major Chinese metropolitan public library.

信息资源管理学科视角下的数据要素研究

[目的/意义]数字经济背景下,信息资源管理学科需要进一步融入到数据要素化市场建设之中,积极建构新的学术增长点。[研究设计/方法]首先分析信息资源管理学科与数据要素的关联逻辑以及学科的角色建构问题,而后介绍信息资源管理学科视域下的若干核心议题,最后对两者融合的未来发展提出思考。[结论/发现]数据要素研究是信息资源管理学科的新领域和新方向,应充分发挥学科特色和优势,有组织地推进数据要素研究与实践。[创新/价值]从信息资源管理学科视域思考数据要素研究,为进一步扩大学科研究视野、拓展学科研究空间提供启示,为数据要素化与数字经济发展中的学科话语建构提供参考。

数字化转型背景下高校图书馆数字基座的构建探索:以复旦大学图书馆为例

高校图书馆数字基座是一种支撑图书馆数字化转型的数字基础设施,其核心结构由数据中心、业务中心、基础服务中心、物联中心和AI服务中心组成,为业务转型和服务创新提供数据能力、通用业务能力和数字技术应用能力的支撑。本文以复旦大学图书馆数字基座的建设和成效为例,探索高校图书馆数字基座的建设思路、策略和方法,提出数字基座的建设需要在数字化转型战略指引下,适度超前规划并完善总体信息技术架构;围绕用户需求,从平台工具、数据资源、运营机制、场景创新、标准规范等方面进行系统性的构建和持续演进。

基于用户关系管理的高校图书馆数字学术服务重塑

在数字学术与“人工智能+”融合发展的背景下,高校图书馆面临满足用户即时性、个性化、精细化需求的挑战。本文采用文献调研方法,梳理了图书馆数字学术服务研究现状,并对42所一流大学建设高校的图书馆进行了网站调研。结果显示,我国高校图书馆数字学术服务目前总体上处于实践探索期,服务内容和服务方式等方面仍有待大幅提升。为应对这些问题,本文提出了基于用户关系管理理论的服务重塑流程,通过识别需求和动机、构建用户画像、服务设计与创新、实施与监督、馆员培训与发展五个阶段的紧密互动,洞察用户的偏好与需求,提供彰显用户主体性和能动性的数字学术服务,进而提升用户的学习与研究质量。

基于业务流程管理的高校图书馆数字学术服务提升路径研究——以某“双一流”大学图书馆为例

[目的/意义]在大数据、人工智能、区块链等信息技术飞速发展的时代背景下,开展数字学术服务成为高校图书馆发展的主要趋势之一。本文以某“双一流”大学图书馆为例,对我国高校图书馆数字学术服务流程进行梳理,归纳有效的服务提升路径。[研究设计/方法]综合运用BPM方法与案例研究法,通过对该大学图书馆业务部门负责人进行半结构化访谈获取研究数据,分析数据库荐购、文献计量、机构知识库、教学培训、参考咨询、查收查引和科技查新的业务流程,并绘制复杂流程的泳道图。通过PPMS方法,从资金维度、人力维度、用户维度、社会维度和创新维度对数字学术服务的业务流程进行了分析评估。[结论/发现]该大学图书馆的数字学术服务存在业务较分散、部分业务环节重复、以“馆藏驱动”为核心动力、以及新兴信息技术引入较为有限的问题。未来可通过架构顶层设计、识别用户需求、设计服务框架、融入服务流程、完善运营评估机制五方面的路径,对数字学术服务的业务流程进行优化提升,改善服务质量。[创新/价值]创新性地使用BPM方法对我国高校图书馆数字学术服务的业务流程进行了深度解析,提出了高校图书馆数字学术服务业务优化路径,对于我国高校图书馆在未来开展和改进本馆的数字学术服务业务具有一定的指导和借鉴意义。
