The current application of digital workflows for the understanding, promotion and participation in the conservation of heritage sites involves several technical challenges and should be governed by serious ethical engagement.Recording consists of capturing(or mapping)the physical characteristics of character-defining elements that provide the significance of cultural heritage sites.Usually, the outcome of this work represents the cornerstone information serving for their conservation, whatever it uses actively for maintaining them or for ensuring a posterity record in case of destruction. The records produced could guide the decision-making process at different levels by property owners, site managers, public officials, and conservators around the world,as well as to present historical knowledge and values of these resources.Rigorous documentation may also serve a broader purpose:over time,it becomes the primary means by which scholars and the public apprehends a site that has since changed radically or disappeared. This contribution is aimed at providing an overview of the potential application and threats of technology utilised by a heritage recording professional by addressing the need to develop ethical principles that can improve the heritage recording practice at large. 展开更多

Background: Implant placement using a conventional surgical guide and digital surgical guide techniques is well documented in the literature. The most frequently reported disadvantages of conventional surgical guide placement are lack of accuracy in implant placement when compared to three-dimensional assessment in digital technique. Other factors listed are longer time duration and the need for impression techniques. In this case report, the authors present a comparison between the two techniques and the time taken between both cases one done conventionally and another case by digital technique. Case Presentation: For the digital surgical guide, a 44-year-old, male reported with the chief complaint of missing teeth needing replacement was considered. For the conventional technique, a female patient aged fifty-seven who had gone through various dentists with an existing bridge was considered. This patient wanted a good outcome at a reasonable cost. In both cases, molars were missing and needed replacement. The steps for digital flow for a surgical guide and step-by-step conventional methods are both highlighted in this article. Conclusion: Hence the digital technique saved time and was accurate when compared to the conventional in our experience. 展开更多

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) has been developing and putting to use a workflow for tuming printed books into digital books as its contribution to the building of a Universal Digital Library. This workflow is a process consisting of multiple phases, namely, scanning, image processing, OCR, digital archiving, document encoding, and publishing. Over the past couple of years, the BA has defined procedures and special techniques for the scanning, processing, OCR and publishing, especially of Arabic books. This workflow has been automated, allowing the governance of the different phases and making possible the production of 18000 books so far. The BA has also designed and implemented a framework for the encoding of digital books that allows publishing as well as a software system for managing the creation, maintenance, and publishing of the overall digital repository. 展开更多

Changes in technology have dramatically changed the tax administration landscape and challenged the way the revenue agencies go about their work by gathering and analyzing information, supporting taxpayers and encouraging their participation.Revenue agencies need to keep pace with rapid changes in technology and the industries, and lay a strong foundation for future innovation. This article focuses on seven key strategies that help bring a new mindset to tax administration, workforce management and the customer experience, namely:(i)get digital to the core,(ii)unlock the power of data,(iii)reimagine the workforce,(iv)improve the tax experience,(v)tax new stuff fast,(vi)embrace the end-to-end tax community, and(vii)balance competing priorities. The seven keys to transformation include three internal shifts, three external shifts, and one strategic mindset shift.Internally, agencies will need to transform by rethinking digital workflows, data management and the workforce.Externally, agencies will need to become nimbler in order to enhance the taxpayer experience, develop processes to keep pace with economic reality, and deepen relationships with stakeholders in the taxation ecosystem. Finally, agencies will have to address head-on the paradoxical demands of the digital ecosystem they occupy. 展开更多
