The aim of this paper is to construct the integral representation of the solution of Sturm-Liouville equation with eigenparameter-dependent discontinuity conditions at an interior point of the finite interval. Moreover, we examine the properties of the kernel function of this integral representation and obtain the partial differential equation provided by this kernel function. 展开更多

The new Austrian tunneling method (NATM) is widely applied in design and construction of underground engineering projects. When the type and distribution of unfavorable geological bodies (UGBs) associated with their influences on geoengineering are complicated or unfortunately are overlooked, we should pay more attentions to internal features of rocks grades IV and V (even in local but mostly controlling zones). With increasing attentions to the characteristics, mechanism and influences of engineering construction-triggered geohazards, it is crucial to fully understand the disturbance of these geohazards on project construction. A reasonable determination method in construction procedure, i.e. the shape of working face, the type of engineering support and the choice of feasible procedure, should be considered in order to mitigate the construction-triggered geohazards. Due to their high sensitivity to groundwater and in-situ stress, various UGBs exhibit hysteretic nature and failure modes. To give a complete understanding on the internal causes, the emphasis on advanced comprehensive geological forecasting and overall reinforcement treatment is therefore of more practical significance. Compre- hensive evaluation of influential factors, identification of UGB, and measures of discontinuity dynamic controlling comprises the geoengineering condition evaluation and dynamic controlling method. In a case of a cut slope, the variations of UGBs and the impacts of key environmental factors are presented, where more severe construction-triggered geohazards emerged in construction stage than those predicted in design and field investigation stages. As a result, the weight ratios of different influential factors with respect to field investigation, design and construction are obtained. 展开更多

Sturm-Liouville operators on a finite interval with discontinuities are considered. We give a uniqueness theorem for determining the potential and the parameters in boundary and under discontinuous conditions from a particular set of eigenvalues, and provide corresponding reconstruction algorithm, which can be applicable to McLaughlin-Rundell's uniqueness theorem (see J. A nonlinear mathematical model for the analysis of large deformation of frame structures with discontinuity conditions and initial displacements, subject to dynamic loads is formulated with arc-coordinates. The differential quadrature element method (DQEM) is then applied to discretize the nonlinear mathematical model in the spatial domain, An effective method is presented to deal with discontinuity conditions of multivariables in the application of DQEM. A set of DQEM discretization equations are obtained, which are a set of nonlinear differential-algebraic equations with singularity in the time domain. This paper also presents a method to solve nonlinear differential-algebra equations. As application, static and dynamical analyses of large deformation of frames and combined frame structures, subjected to concentrated and distributed forces, are presented. The obtained results are compared with those in the literatures. Numerical results show that the proposed method is general, and effective in dealing with disconti- nuity conditions of multi-variables and solving differential-algebraic equations. It requires only a small number of nodes and has low computation complexity with high precision and a good convergence property. 展开更多

City growth patterns are attracting more attention in urban geography studies. This paper examines how cities develop and grow in the upper tail of size distribution in a large-scale economy based on a theoretical model under new economic geography framework and the empirical evidence from the US. The results show that cities grow in a sequential pattern. Cities with the best economic conditions are the first to grow fastest until they reach a critical size, then their growth rates slow down and the smaller cities farther down in the urban hierarchy become the fastest-growing ones in sequence. This paper also reveals three related features of urban system. First, the city size distribution evolves from low-level balanced to primate and finally high-level balanced pattern in an inverted U-shaped path. Second, there exist persistent discontinuities, or gaps, between city size classes. Third, city size in the upper tail exhibits conditional convergence characteristics. This paper could not only contribute to enhancing the understanding of urbanization process and city size distribution dynamics, but also be widely used in making effective policies and scientific urban planning. 展开更多
