If the surges induced by lightning invade into low voltage distribution lines, there might be a possibility of giving some severe damages to the systems. Therefore, it is necessary to examine these induced phenomena. FDTD (finite difference time domain) method which treats objects as three-dimensional solid circuits is applied to analyze these induced phenomena. VSTL (Virtual Surge Test Lab.) is the surge analysis simulation program using FDTD method. In this paper, the lightning induced phenomena on the low voltage distribution line in the house are analyzed by using VSTL. In this paper, investigation results about induced surge when a lightning struck the point nearby the house, and about a suppressing effect of surges by comparing the results of analysis with and without SPD (surge protective device) are shown. As a result, it is confirmed that SPD is effective for suppressing lightning surge.展开更多

Besides the technical aspects, the proposed GA methodology takes into account the economic feasibility analysis. The results of power flow simulations have shown that the presence of single-phase transformers along with the absence of the neutral conductor at specific sections of the MV (medium voltage) network may increase the Vng (neutral-to-ground voltage) levels of the feeders involved, jeopardizing the system's safety. On the other hand, the solutions proposed by the GA methodology may reduce the network Vng levels and improve the safety conditions, providing values close to the ones found before the neutral conductor theft.展开更多

It is closely related to the type of vibration source and the soil properties. Based on the solutions of the Lamb's problem, the boundary at the surface between the near and far fields of ground vibration was investigated for a harmonic vertical concentrated load and an infinite line load at the surface of a visco-elastic half-space. Particularly, the variation of the boundary with the material damping was investigated for both cases. The results indicate that the material damping slightly contributes to the attenuation of vibrations in the near-source region, but significantly reduces the vibrations in the region that is at some distance away from the source. When taking the material damping into consideration, the boundary between the near and far fields tends to move towards the vibration source. Compared with the vibrations caused by a concentrated load, the vibrations induced by an infinite line load can affect a larger range of the surrounding environment, and they attenuate more slowly. This means the boundary between the near field and far field should move fitrther away from the source. Finally, the boundaries are defined in terms of R-wave length (2R) and Poisson ratio of the ground (o). For the case of a point load, the boundary is located at the distance of (5.0-6.0)2R for v≤0.30 and at the distance of (2.0--3.0)2R for v≥0.35. For the case of an infinite line load, the boundary is located at the distance (5.5-6.5)2rt for v≤0.30 and at the distance (2.5--3.5)2R for v≥0.35.展开更多

Reactive power control from the power network side is simpler because little controlled object apparatus, such as STATCOM, is required. However, it is difficult to optimize the individual voltages of residential consumers because few data have been obtained by the power network side as compared with the power generation side. Energy loss at each residence with PV is different due to the difference in the grid-interconnection condition, such as distribution line impedance when the same operating voltage is set at all residences. Therefore, in this paper, the authors propose an advanced reactive power control method for residential PV systems in order to optimally control the voltage at individual residences so as to minimize energy loss fluctuation. The effectiveness of the proposed reactive power control is demonstrated by numerical simulation.展开更多

As a countermeasure, installation of the reactive power control of an inverter at each residence has been considered. However, there are not many types of inverters that can operate reactive power control because there are insufficient effects on a low voltage distribution line with low penetration PV with reactive power control. Therefore, it is necessary to consider how to increase generation efficiency with a lower number of inverters. In this paper, four Japanese standard distribution line structures, for example of a residential area on "C1", where 2,160 residential PV systems are grid-interconnected, are selected. The optimal setting of reactive power control at each residence is computed on the distribution lines with a greedy method.展开更多

A particle image is first obtained through optical line scan technology and is then analyzed using digital image processing. The system is composed of a particle separation module, an image acquisition module, an image processing module, and an electric control module. Experiments are carried out using non-uniform 0.1 mm particles. The main advantage of this system consists of a full analysis of particles without any overlap or miss, thus improving the Area Scan Charge Coupled Device (CCD) acquisition problems. Particle size distribution, roundness, and sphericity can be obtained using the system with a deviation of repeated precision of around ±1%. The developed system is shown to be also convenient and versatile for any particle size and shape for academic and industrial users.展开更多

文摘Power system resilience procurement costs in N-k contingencies have gained more prominence as number of extreme events continues to increase.A chain rule is presented in this paper for extracting resilience procurement costs from a fully decomposed locational marginal price(LMP)model.First, power transfer distribution factor(PTDF)matrices with AC power flow(i.e.,AC-PTDF)are determined.AC-PTDF and AC-LODF(line outage distribution factor)equations are derived for N-k contingencies and a fully decomposed LMP model is developed where generation and transmission security components are established for specific contingencies.Furthermore, resilience procurement costs can be measured at different buses for the proposed security components.Impact of N-k contingencies on resilience procurement costs at specific buses can be determined as proposed security components will gain more insight for resilience procurement in power systems. The modified IEEE 6-bus and 118-bus systems are adopted to verify effectiveness of the proposed resilience procurement method.

文摘As extreme weather events have become more frequent in recent years, improving the resilience and reliability of power systems has become an important area of concern. In this paper,a robust preventive-corrective security-constrained optimal power flow(RO-PCSCOPF)model is proposed to improve power system reliability under N−k outages. Both the short-term emergency limit(STL)and the long-term operating limit(LTL)of the post-contingency power flow on the branch are considered.Compared with the existing robust corrective SCOPF model that only considers STL or LTL,the proposed ROPCSCOPF model can achieve a more reliable generation dispatch solution. In addition, this paper also summarizes and compares the solution methods for solving the N−k SCOPF problem. The computational efficiency of the classical Benders decomposition(BD)method, robust optimization(RO)method, and line outage distribution factor(LODF)method are investigated on the IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System and 118-bus system.Simulation results show that the BD method has the worst computation performance. The RO method and the LODF method have comparable performance. However, the LODF method can only be used for the preventive SCOPF and not for the corrective SCOPF.The RO method can be used for both.
文摘An on-line full scan inspection system is developed for particle size analysis. The developed system is shown to be also convenient and versatile for any particle size and shape for academic and industrial users.
