This paper consisted of optimizing the grid topology and placement of a DSTATCOM in a SBEE real distribution network in order to improve its technical performance. The modified ant colony algorithms solved this difficult combinatorial problem, which integrated among the criteria, the minimization of the losses and the deviation of the node voltages under operational constraints about distribution networks operation. According to the results obtained, the optimization of the topology of a distribution network and the placement of DSTATCOM contributed qualitatively to improve the losses, voltage and stability plans of the Togba distribution network. Actually, the hybridization of optimization means such as the placement of DSTATCOM and the reconfiguration of the networks applied to the Togba HVA network made the power of DSTATCOM optimization possible by almost 50.71% and reduce losses to 83.57%. The implementations of those algorithms are very efficient and effective, and can be implemented to help distribution system operators, developing countries and in particular, the operators of the Beninese Electric Power Company to perform their electrical network.展开更多

DNR studies require implementation of power flow analysis and complex optimization procedures capable of handling large combinatorial problems. The size of distribution network influences the type of the optimization method to be applied. Straightforward approaches can be computationally expensive or even prohibitive whereas heuristic or meta-heuristic approaches can yield acceptable results with less computation cost. In this paper, a customized evolutionary algorithm has been introduced and applied to power distribution network reconfiguration. The recombination operators of the algorithm are designed to preserve feasibility of solutions(radial structure of the network) thus considerably reducing the size of the search space. Consequently, improved repeatability of results as well as lower overall computational complexity of the optimization process have been achieved. The optimization process considers power losses and the system voltage profile, both aggregated into a scalar cost function. Power flow analysis is performed with the Open Distribution System Simulator,a simple and efficient simulation tool for electric distribution systems. Our approach is demonstrated using several networks of various sizes. Comprehensive benchmarking indicates superiority of the proposed technique over state-of-the-art methods from the literature.展开更多

The feeder reconfiguration problem is formulated as a non-linear optimization problem and the optimal solution is obtained using BFOA. With the proposed reconfiguration method, the radial structure of the distribution system is retained and the burden on the optimization technique is reduced. Test results are presented for the 16-bus sample network, the proposed reconfiguration method has effectively decreased the LBI, and the BFOA technique is efficient in searching for the optimal solution.展开更多
