The Relationship between Self-Esteem and Social Phobia among College Students:The Mediating Effect of Fear of Negative Evaluation and the Moderating Effect of Perfectionism

Objectives:To explore the relationship between college students’self-esteem(SE)and their social phobia(SP),as well as the mediating role of fear of negative evaluation(FNE)and the moderating effect of perfectionism.Methods:A convenience sampling survey was carried out for 1020 college students from Shandong Province of China,utilizing measures of college students’self-esteem,fear of negative evaluation,perfectionism,and social phobia.Data analysis was performed using the SPSS PROCESS macro.Results:(1)college students’self-esteem significantly and negatively predicts their social phobia(β=−0.31,t=−10.10,p<0.001);(2)fear of negative evaluation partially mediates the relation between self-esteem and social phobia among college students,with the mediating effect accounting for 48.97%of the total effect(TE);(3)the mediating role of fear of negative evaluation is moderated by perfectionism(β=0.18,t=7.75,p<0.001),where higher levels of perfectionism strengthen the mediating effect of fear of negative evaluation.Conclusions:Perfectionism moderates the mediating effect that fear of negative evaluation plays,establishing a moderated mediating model.

Domain-specific modeling and verification for C4ISR capability requirements

An approach was proposed to specify the C4ISR capability of domain-specific modeling language.To confine the domain modeling within a standard architecture framework,formally a C4ISR capability meta-ontology was defined according to the meta-model of DoD Architecture Framework.The meta-ontology is used for extending UML Profile so that the domain experts can model the C4ISR domains using the C4ISR capability meta-concepts to define a domain-specific modeling language.The domain models can be then checked to guarantee the consistency and completeness through converting the UML models into the Description Logic ontology and making use of inference engine Pellet to verify the ontology.

Understanding fundamental mechanisms governing axon outgrowth and guidance can inform the development of therapeutic strategies to restore neuronal function damaged though injury or disease. Axons navigate the extracellular environment by responding to guidance cues that bind to cell surface receptors to relay information intracellularly via Rho GTPase family members, including the Rac GTPases.

Predicting adolescent perfectionism: The role of socio-demographic traits, personal relationships, and media

BACKGROUND The present study investigated perfectionism from the bioecological model perspective as a multidimensional construct manifested in forms of excessively high personal standards,exaggerated worries about personal mistakes,doubt in one’s performance,oversized order and organization emphasis,and the importance of parental valuations and expectations.AIM To investigate the relation between perfectionism;the quality of family,peer,and college relationships;and media usage and content interests.METHODS The research was implemented in 2020 with 203 students(134 female,66%)aged 18-25 years,enrolled at the University of Osijek in Croatia.The questionnaire had five parts:A)sociodemographic data;B)the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale;C)the“general life satisfaction”and“current situational life satisfaction”scale;D)family,peer,and college relationships quality scale;and E)media usage and content interests scale.All of the implemented instruments showed satisfactory reliability.A hierarchical regression analysis was implemented with the aim of establishing significant perfectionism predictors.RESULTS Age and gender were significant predictors of perfectionism.Participants with lower family relationship quality reported higher parental expectations and complaining as well as significantly higher doubts in personal performance and concern about mistakes.Similarly,a lower peer relationship quality predicted doubts in personal performance and stronger concerns about mistakes.The quality of college relationships positively predicted higher perfectionist personal standards and organization.General life satisfaction predicted higher concerns about mistakes,while current situational life satisfaction predicted higher levels of perfectionist organization.Media usage intensity had no significant effect.Adolescent interest in information-educational media predicted higher personal standards as well as concern about mistakes and organization.Higher interests in entertainment media content predicted more concern about mistakes,while interest in negative media content negatively predicted organization in adolescents.CONCLUSION Sociodemographic traits,relationships with family,peers and colleagues,as well as life satisfaction and media content interests represent significant adolescent perfectionism predictors,explaining 14%-28%of individual perfectionism dimensions.

NNL:a domain-specific language for neural networks

Recent years,neural networks(NNs)have received increasing attention from both academia and industry.So far significant diversity among existing NNs as well as their hardware platforms makes NN programming a daunting task.In this paper,a domain-specific language(DSL)for NNs,neural network language(NNL)is proposed to deliver productivity of NN programming and portable performance of NN execution on different hardware platforms.The productivity and flexibility of NN programming are enabled by abstracting NNs as a directed graph of blocks.The language describes 4 representative and widely used NNs and runs them on 3 different hardware platforms(CPU,GPU and NN accelerator).Experimental results show that NNs written with the proposed language are,on average,14.5%better than the baseline implementations across these 3 platforms.Moreover,compared with the Caffe framework that specifically targets the GPU platform,the code can achieve similar performance.

Perfectionism and mental health problems:Limitations and directions for future research

Research has indicated that perfectionism is prevalent among adolescents and may be harmful in terms of its association with mental health problems.This letter aims to create a paradigm for future studies of the perfectionism.Specifically,we suggest gaps and implications that must be considered at perfectionism future research in terms of assessments,interventions,settings,potential treatments,gender,and social media.

Building a Productive Domain-Specific Cloud for Big Data Processing and Analytics Service

Cloud Computing as a disruptive technology, provides a dynamic, elastic and promising computing climate to tackle the challenges of big data processing and analytics. Hadoop and MapReduce are the widely used open source frameworks in Cloud Computing for storing and processing big data in the scalable fashion. Spark is the latest parallel computing engine working together with Hadoop that exceeds MapReduce performance via its in-memory computing and high level programming features. In this paper, we present our design and implementation of a productive, domain-specific big data analytics cloud platform on top of Hadoop and Spark. To increase user’s productivity, we created a variety of data processing templates to simplify the programming efforts. We have conducted experiments for its productivity and performance with a few basic but representative data processing algorithms in the petroleum industry. Geophysicists can use the platform to productively design and implement scalable seismic data processing algorithms without handling the details of data management and the complexity of parallelism. The Cloud platform generates a complete data processing application based on user’s kernel program and simple configurations, allocates resources and executes it in parallel on top of Spark and Hadoop.

Influence of Software Modeling and Design on Domain-Specific Abstract Thinking: Student’s Perspective

Software engineering has been taught at many institutions as individual course for many years. Recently, many higher education institutions offer a BSc degree in Software Engineering. Software engineers are required, especially at the small enterprises, to play many roles, and sometimes simultaneously. Beside the technical and managerial skills, software engineers should have additional intellectual skills such as domain-specific abstract thinking. Therefore, software engineering curriculum should help the students to build and improve their skills to meet the labor market needs. This study aims to explore the perceptions of software engineering students on the influence of learning software modeling and design on their domain-specific abstract thinking. Also, we explore the role of the course project in improving their domain-specific abstract thinking. The study results have shown that, most of the surveyed students believe that learning and practicing modeling and design concepts contribute to their ability to think abstractly on specific domain. However, this finding is influenced by the students’ lack of the comprehension of some modeling and design aspects (e.g., generalization). We believe that, such aspects should be introduced to the students at early levels of software engineering curriculum, which certainly will improve their ability to think abstractly on specific domain.

Optical Properties and Structural Perfection of Chicago Sky Blue 6B-doped KDP Crystals

KDP crystals doped with Chicago Sky Blue 6B（CSB-6B） were grown by traditional lowering temperature method.The optical properties and structural perfection of KDP crystals were investigated by transmittance spectra and high-resolution X-ray diffraction,respectively.The results indicate that CSB-6B tends to be incorporated into the pyramidal sector of KDP crystals（PyS-KDP） and lead to inclusions parallel to（101） face.Additionally,the transmittance of as-grown KDP crystals decreases as the amount of CSB-6B increases. Moreover,the rocking curves of PyS-KDP suggest that CSB-6B can deteriorate the structural perfection of PyS-KDP.

The Politics of Human Perfection and the Politics of Human Imperfection： Chantal Mouffe versus Ulrich Beck and Anthony Giddens on European Inequalities

The title of this paper refers to Michael Oakeshott＇s distinction between the politics of faith and the politics of scepticism. The ＂faith＂ expresses a belief in the capacity of government to concentrate all the power and resources upon the project of human improvement and perfection, while the ＂scepticism＂ is the politics of the powerless in which government cannot produce perfection and enjoys only limited opportunity of directing the activities of its subjects. The aim of this article is to revise Oakeshott＇s distinction in order to apply it to the discussion on inequalities affecting Europe. This discussion held by Chantal Mouffe, Ulrich Beck and Anthony Giddens focused on issues such as： modern patterns of inequality, the coexistence of different ethnic, religious and political forms of life, ＂legitimization＂ of social inequalities, the institutionalization of norms of equality, the problem of recognition, the common identity and so on. The key question is： How the values of equality and justice are best realized in the structure of modern society？ To answer this question, it is necessary not only to assess critilically the authority of governments, but also to examine possible ways of development of the idea of liberal democracy and power relations in contemporary political socidtts. What is our perspective on the way to solve these problems--the reinvention of politics or democratizing democracy？ Even if this research will not help us to find the best political project, however we may be less often cheated in this discussion by irrelevant and ambiguous arguments.
