Objective:To investigate the correlation of variables between dominant and non-dominant eyes in healthy young people.Methods:300 cases(600 eyes)of healthy young volunteers recruited in our hospital from March 2020 to February 2022were selected as the research objects. The general data of the volunteers were collected and the dominant eye, diopter, biological parameters and retinal blood flow density were detected. We compared all the test indexes of volunteers with different dominant eyes, and compared the refractive parameters, biological parameters and retinal blood flow density between the dominant and non-dominant eyes of volunteers. Results:Among the 300volunteers,62.67%(188/300)had the right eye as the dominant eye and 37.33%(112/300)had the left eye as the dominant eye. There was no significant difference in gender,BMI and equivalent spherical lens(SE)among the subjects with different dominant eyes(P>0.05).The SE and spherical diopter(S)of dominant eye were higher than that of non-dominant eye(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the dominant and non-dominant eye(C)(P>0.05);There was no significant difference in SE and C between dominant and non-dominant eye in volunteers with SE difference≤0.5 D and 0.51-1.25 D(P>0.05),and spherical diopter(S)of dominant eye was higher than that of non-dominant eye(P<0.05);The difference of SE was 1.26-2.00 D,>2.00 D,the SE and spherical diopter(S)of dominant eye were higher than those of non-dominant eye(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the dominant and non-dominant eye C(P>0.05).The levels of RA and CA in the dominant eye of 300 volunteers were lower than those in the non-dominant eye.The RA and CA levels of the dominant eye were lower than those of the non-dominant eye in volunteers with RA difference≤0.50 D,0.51-1.25 D,1.26-2.00 D,>2.00 D(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the levels of axial length(AL),central corneal thickness(CCT),anterior chamber depth(ACD)and lens thickness(LT)between the dominant and non-dominant eyes(P>0.05).The levels of superficial retinal capillary layer(SVC),deep retinal capillary layer(DVC)and mean retinal blood flow density(RET)in dominant eyes were lower than those in non-dominant eyes. The level of AC in non-dominant eyes was higher than that in non-dominant eyes(P<0.05).Conclusion:The dominant eye of healthy young people is mostly the right eye, which has nothing to do with gender, age and BMI.Meanwhile, the biological parameters between the dominant and non-dominant eye were basically the same, the mean retinal blood flow density of the dominant eye was lower than that of the non-dominant eye,but its AC was higher than that of the non-dominant eye. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: Certain neural functions, such as peripheral reflexes, differ between genders, while higher brain functions, such as language, are asymmetrically distributed between the two hemispheres. The question remains as to whether depth perception differs between hemispheric laterality and genders, and whether it is affected by eye dominance. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether depth perception is influenced by factors such as gender, eye dominance, and hemispheric lateralization by recording evoked potential associated with depth perception. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A contrast observation based on neuroelectrophysiology was performed at the Department of Biophysics of Ege University Medical School between June 2006 and April 2007. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 34 subjects, 19 females and 15 males, were included in the study with a mean age of (31.0 ± 6.9) years. All subjects were free of neurological or psychological disorders, or problems such as strabismus or vision correction. METHODS: Random-dot stereograms were used to elicit brain activity. A specially designed signal acquisition system employing two computers was used to record evoked potentials from both hemispheres via two pairs of scalp electrodes placed over the occipitotemporal areas of both hemispheres at symmetrical locations. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Negative potential with a mean latency of (211.21 ±25.55) ms and a mean amplitude of (6.05 ± 1.53) pV was recorded from both occipitotemporal areas in 30 out of 34 participants. This was termed "Nd" and represented the evoked potential associated with depth perception. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in Nd amplitude or latency between the two hemispheres, the two eyes, or genders (P 〉 0.05). CONCLUSION: The evoked potential associated with depth perception was not influenced by gender, hemisphere, or eye dominance. 展开更多

The accommodative function before and after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) was observed, and the effect of LASIK on accommodation was investigated. In a prospective clinical trial, 48 myopic patients (96 eyes) subject to bilateral LASIK in Refractive Surgery Center, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) from March 2006 to June 2006 were selected and studied. Refractions, accommodative range, amplitude of accommodative response and high frequency component (HFC) of accommodative microfluctuations were measured with NEDIK-730A before and one week and 30 days after operation. Dominant and non-dominant eyes were determined by hole-in-card method. It was found that all of the operative eyes showed an uncorrected visual acuity of 0.8 or better one week postoperatively, and 1.0 or better 30 days postoperatively. Compared with those preoperatively, accommodative range and HFC had no significant difference at first week and 30th day after operation in both dominant eyes and non-dominant eyes (P〉0.05), but there was a significant difference in the amplitude of accommodative response/accommodative stimulus ratio (A/S) after operation (P〈0.01), and no significant difference was found in accommodation between one week and 30 days postoperation. No ocular dominance's change was noted. There was no significant difference in accommodative function between dominant eyes and non-dominant eyes. It was suggested that LASIK produced no significant effect on accommodation. 展开更多
