In this paper,a double submerged inclined plates with ‘/\’ configuration is firstly considered. By use of the boundary element method(BEM) based on Green function with the wave term, the radiation problem of this special type structure is investigated. The added mass and damping coefficients due to different plate lengths and inclined angles are obtained. The results show that: the added mass and damping coefficients for sway are the largest. Heave is the most sensitive mode to inclined angles. The wave frequencies of the maximal added mass and damping coefficients for sway and roll are the same.展开更多

Nonlinear finite element models of SCBs were established by using the finite element tool, Abaqus. Tie constraints were used to connect the binding bars and the steel plates. Surface-to-surface contact provided by the Abaqus was used to simulate the interaction between the steel plate and the core concrete. The established models could predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs with a reasonable degree of accuracy. A calculation method was developed by superposition principle to predict the lateral load-carrying capacity of SCBs for the engineering application. The concrete confined by steel plates and binding bars is under multi-axial compression; therefore, its shear strength was calculated by using the Guo-Wang concrete failure criterion. The shear strength of the steel plates of SCBs was calculated by using the von Mises yielding criterion without considering buckling. Results of the developed method are in good agreement with the testing and finite element results.展开更多

The combination of symphyseal and parasymphyseal fracturesrepresent 47.09% of the total mandibular fractures.AIMTo compare the effectiveness of lag screws vs double Y-shaped miniplates in thefixation of anterior mandibular fractures.METHODSThis study is a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial, performed onsixteen patients with anterior mandibular fractures. Patients were divided equallyinto two groups, each consisting of eight patients. Group 1: Underwent openreduction and internal fixation using two lag screws. Group 2: Underwent openreduction and internal fixation using double Y-shaped plates. The followingparameters were assessed: operating time in minutes, pain using a visual analogscale, edema, surgical wound healing for signs and symptoms of infection, occlusion status and stability, maximal mouth opening, and sensory nervefunction. Cone beam computed tomography was performed at 3 and 6 mo tomeasure bone density and assess the progression of fracture healing.RESULTSThe study included 13 males (81.3%) and 3 females (18.8%) aged 26 to 45 years(mean age was 35.69 ± 6.01 years). The cause of trauma was road traffic accidentsin 10 patients (62.5%), interpersonal violence in 3 patients (18.8%) and othercauses in 3 patients (18.8%). The fractures comprised 10 parasymphyseal fractures(62.5%) and 6 symphyseal fractures (37.5%). The values of all parameters were comparable in both groups with no statistically significant difference except forthe mean bone density at 3 mo postoperatively which was 946.38 ± 66.29 in group 1 and 830.36 ± 95.53 in group 2 (P = 0.015).CONCLUSIONBoth lag screws and double Y-shaped miniplates provide favorable means offixation for mandibular fractures in the anterior region. Fractures fixed with lagscrews show greater mean bone density at 3 mo post-operation, indicative ofhigher primary stability and faster early bone healing. Further studies with largersample sizes are required to verify these conclusions.展开更多

Analytical solutions of a system of coupled partial differential equations, which describe corresponding dynamical free and forced processes, are obtained using Bernoulli's particular integral and Lagrange's method of variation constants. It is shown that one-mode vibrations correspond to two-frequency regime for free vibrations induced by initial conditions and to three-frequency regime for forced vibrations induced by one-frequency external excitation and corresponding initial conditions. The analytical solutions show that the elastic connec- tion between plates leads to the appearance of twofrequency regime of time function, which corresponds to one eigenamplitude function of one mode, and also that the time functions of different vibration modes are uncoupled, for each shape of vibrations. It has been proven that for both elastically connected plates, for every pair of m and n, two possibilities for appearance of the resonance dynamical states, as well as for appearance of the dynamical absorption, are present. Using the MathCad program, the corresponding visualizations of the characteristic forms of the plate middle surfaces through time are presented.展开更多

When the discontinuity is small, it can be taken as an interface crack between the bi-materials or two bodies (plates or beams). By comparison between the number of multifrequencies of analytical solutions of the double plate system free transversal vibrations for the case when the system is with and without disconti- nuity in elastic layer we obtain a theory for experimental vibration method for identification of the presence of an interface crack in the double plate system. The analytical analysis of free transversal vibrations of an elastically connected double plate systems with discontinuity in the elastic layer of Winkler type is presented. The analytical solutions of the coupled partial differential equations for dynamical free and forced vibration processes are obtained by using method of Bernoulli's particular integral and Lagrange's method of variation constants. It is shown that one mode vibration corresponds an infinite or finite multi-frequency regime for free and forced vibrations induced by initial conditions and one- frequency or corresponding number of multi-frequency regime depending on external excitations. It is shown for every shape of vibrations. The analytical solutions show that the discontinuity affects the appearance of multi-frequency regime of time function corresponding to one eigen amplitude function of one mode, and also that time functions of different vibration basic modes are coupled. From final expression we can separate the newgeneralized eigen amplitude functions with correspon- ding time eigen functions of one frequency and multifrequency regime of vibrations.展开更多

The linearized Poisson- Boltzmann equation and the Cauchy momentum equation have been solved in this article. At the interface, the Maxwell stress is included as the boundary condition. By numerical computations of the inverse Laplace transform, the effects of dielectric constant ratio e, density ratio p, pressure ratio p, viscosity ratioμ of layer II to layer I, interface zeta potential difference △ψ, interface charge density jump Q, the ratios of maximum electro-osmotic velocity to pressure velocity , and the normalized pressure gradient B on transient veloc- ity amplitude are presented. We find the velocity amplitude becomes large with the interface zeta potential difference and becomes small with the increase of the viscosity. The ve- locity will be large with the increases of dielectric constant ratio; the density ratio almost does not influence the EOF ve- locity. Larger interface charge density jump leads to a strong jump of velocity at the interface. Additionally, the effects of the thickness of fluid layers (hi and h2) and pressure gradient on the velocity are also investigated.展开更多
