Dwellings are usually constructed by people as per their respective needs,with the use of traditional skills.The architectural built form,layout,building materials,and local construction practices vary from one region...Dwellings are usually constructed by people as per their respective needs,with the use of traditional skills.The architectural built form,layout,building materials,and local construction practices vary from one region to the other,depending on the socio cultural and socio-economic significance.It is essential and crucial to understand the cultural significance in an ever-transforming world.Thus,a study has been attempted to analyze typical characteristics of houses in Krishna district of coastal Andhra Pradesh.As part of the study process,a few dwellings were selected which have vernacular building components and which underwent transformation(spatial,physical and esthetical)in response to the respective users’changing requirements in time and space.People’s attachment to the vernacular components of the present and earlier house was recorded.The qualitative analysis brought out that 25%of houses exhibited transformation in their built-up area while 75%exhibited transformation in terms of its spaces,components such as roof,wall,joinery and ornamentation.It was also found that the quantum of transformation which had taken place arose from different reasons in isolation and combination such as family structure,change from joint large family to a smaller nuclear family system within the same premises,property subdivision,growth in economic condition,and partial physical deterioration of building components.The principal focus of this paper is to understand the degree of people’s attachment or satisfaction level toward vernacular elements and thereby understand the social acceptance of vernacular architecture in a broader perspective.展开更多

The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in decline.However,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline...The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in decline.However,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline occurs.To fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science data.Utilizing a generalised linear mixed-effect model(GLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech Republic spanning 2009-2017.Our analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin abundance.More specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin populations.Within urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,GreenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House Martin.We advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations.展开更多
A multitude of climate-adaptive design approaches are embedded in regional architecture,which have a positive impact on addressing the deformed development of urban spatial patterns and the dual challenges of climate ...A multitude of climate-adaptive design approaches are embedded in regional architecture,which have a positive impact on addressing the deformed development of urban spatial patterns and the dual challenges of climate and resources.This paper examines the principles of climate adaptability embedded in the site layout and spatial organization characteristics of traditional cave dwelling villages in northern Shaanxi Province.The extracted climate adaptability principles are summarized,and the resulting design strategies that are well-suited to the contemporary urban space form are presented.Through analysis,it can be observed that traditional cave dwelling villages in northern Shaanxi are predominantly situated on south-facing slopes in proximity to water at low altitudes.These villages are characterized by compact building groups and east-west development,which is constrained by the elements of mountains and rivers.A two-level street system is generated,comprising streets parallel to the contour line and roadways perpendicular to the contour line.This results in the formation of a courtyard form enclosed by mountains.Such site layout and spatial organization exhibit excellent climate adaptability with regard to heat,ventilation,and wind storage.In light of the aforementioned considerations,the following urban spatial form design strategies are put forth:①the topographic height difference can be exploited to obtain sufficient sunshine;②the group shape can be optimized in order to reduce building energy consumption;③the best orientation of the building can be chosen to take account of both winter and summer conditions;④the height and length can be combined in order to form natural masking;⑤the D/H ratio of streets and roadways should be controlled to achieve a balance between heat gain and cooling of groups;⑥vents should be set appropriately to optimize group ventilation;⑦climate buffers should be established to increase the level of climate response.展开更多

[Objective] The aim of this study is to quantitatively analyze the Fusarium concentration and distribution in air and the surrounding substrates(feed,feces,dust,soil)in the chicken house to provide a scientific basis ...[Objective] The aim of this study is to quantitatively analyze the Fusarium concentration and distribution in air and the surrounding substrates(feed,feces,dust,soil)in the chicken house to provide a scientific basis for the control and early warning of Fusarium infection in poultry and practitioners.[Method]Air samples collected by a 6-stage Anderson air microorganism sampler and exposed culture plates as well as substrate samples gathered by aseptic bags were cultured,counted and purified in the lab.[Result]717 strains of Fusarium isolates were obtained and the dust had the highest Fusarium concentration among the samples(2.8×105-1.5×106 CFU/g with an average of 8.8×105 CFU/g).[Conclusion]The Fusarium distribution in the air was in high correlation with those in soil and dust.展开更多
A case study is performed on the influence of the patio on the indoor environment of a traditional folk house group,named Zhangguying village in Hunan province,in the summer of 2007.Measurements include indoor and out...A case study is performed on the influence of the patio on the indoor environment of a traditional folk house group,named Zhangguying village in Hunan province,in the summer of 2007.Measurements include indoor and outdoor air temperature,indoor and outdoor illuminance,indoor and outdoor air speed,and carried out from August 5th to 10th.The results show that the patio,acting as a "buffer zone",can reduce the ambient impacts on the indoor thermal environment of rooms because the temperature of the patio is lower than that of the outdoor temperature but higher than that of the rooms.The patio can improve the indoor lighting environment because the illuminance of the patio is lower than that of outdoor and higher than that of the rooms.But the effect is too limited,because the illuminance of the rooms is lower than the national standards.This study shows that the shading design is the primary consideration in this kind of climate.The wind speed of the patio is stable and similar to that of the hall and the stack effect of the patio is not obvious.It shows that the patio is useful for natural ventilation,caused by wind pressure,in summer.展开更多
