This article proves the existence of a hyper-precise global numerical meta-architecture unifying, structuring, binding and controlling the billion triplet codons constituting the sequence of single-stranded DNA of the entire human genome. Beyond the evolution and erratic mutations like transposons within the genome, it’s as if the memory of a fossil genome with multiple symmetries persists. This recalls the “intermingling” of information characterizing the fractal universe of chaos theory. The result leads to a balanced and perfect tuning between the masses of the two strands of the huge DNA molecule that constitute our genome. We show here how codon populations forming the single-stranded DNA sequences can constitute a critical approach to the understanding of junk DNA function. Then, we suggest revisiting certain methods published in our 2009 book “Codex Biogenesis”. In fact, we demonstrate here how the universal genetic code table is a powerful analytical filter to characterize single-stranded DNA sequences constituting chromosomes and genomes. We can then show that any genomic DNA sequence is featured by three numbers, which characterize it and its 64 codon populations with correlations greater than 99%. The number “1” is common to all sequences, expressing the second law of Chargaff. The other 2 numbers are related to each specific DNA sequence case characterizing life species. For example, the entire human genome is characterized by three remarkable numbers 1, 2, and Phi = 1.618 the golden ratio. Associated with each of these three numbers, we can match three axes of symmetry, then “imagine” a kind of hyperspace formed by these codon populations. Then we revisit the value (3-Phi)/2 which is probably universal and common to both the scale of quarks and atomic levels, balancing and tuning the whole human genome codon population. Finally, we demonstrate a new kind of duality between “form and substance” overlapping the whole human genome: we will show that—simultaneously with the duality between genes and junk DNA—there is a second layer of embedded hidden structure overlapping all the DNA of the whole human genome, dividing it into a second type of duality information/redundancy involving golden ratio proportions. 展开更多

Alzheimer's disease, the primary cause of dementia,is characterized by neuropathologies, such as amyloid plaques, synaptic and neuronal degeneration, and neurofibrillary tangles.Although amyloid plaques are the primary characteristic of Alzheimer's disease in the central nervous system and peripheral organs, targeting amyloid-beta clearance in the central nervous system has shown limited clinical efficacy in Alzheimer's disease treatment.Metabolic abnormalities are commonly observed in patients with Alzheimer's disease. The liver is the primary peripheral organ involved in amyloid-beta metabolism, playing a crucial role in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease.Notably, impaired cholesterol metabolism in the liver may exacerbate the development of Alzheimer's disease. In this review,we explore the underlying causes of Alzheimer's disease and elucidate the role of the liver in amyloid-beta clearance and cholesterol metabolism.Furthermore,we propose that restoring normal cholesterol metabolism in the liver could represent a promising therapeutic strategy for addressing Alzheimer's disease. 展开更多

E-learning platforms support education systems worldwide, transferring theoretical knowledge as well as soft skills. In the present study high-school pupils’, and adult students’ opinions were evaluated through a modern structured MOODLE interactive course, designed for the needs of the laboratory course “Automotive Systems”. The study concerns Greek secondary vocational education pupils aged 18 and vocational training adult students aged 20 to 50 years. The multistage, equal size simple random cluster sample was used as a sampling method. Pupils and adult students of each cluster completed structured 10-question questionnaires both before and after attending the course. A total of 120 questionnaires were collected. In general, our findings disclosed that the majority of pupils and adult students had significantly improved their knowledge and skills from using MOODLE. They reported strengthening conventional teaching, using the new MOODLE technology. The satisfaction indices improved quite, with the differences in their mean values being statistically significant. 展开更多

The final result is an expanding de Sitter hyperbolic, i.e. Gauss-Bolyai-Lobachevsky universe with dark energy and ordinary energy densities in full agreement with cosmic observations and measurements. In the course of obtaining this vital result, the work addresses fundamental points connected to a host of subjects, namely Hardy’s quantum entanglement, an extension of Turing’s machine to a transfinite version, the phenomenon of measure concentration in the context of Banach-like spaces with high dimensionality as well as the pioneering work on the relation between quantum entanglement and computational efficiency. 展开更多

This review focuses on the roles antioxidants and prooxidants in colorectal cancer(CRC).Considerable evidence suggests that environmental factors play key roles in the incidence of sporadic CRC.If pro-oxidant factors play an etiological role in CRC it is reasonable to expect causal interconnections between the wellcharacterized risk factors for CRC,oxidative stress and genotoxicity.Cigarette smoking,a high dietary consumption of n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and alcohol intake are all associated with increased CRC risk. These risk factors are all pro-oxidant stressors and their connections to oxidative stress, the intestinal microbiome, intestinal microfold cells,cyclooxygenase-2 and CRCare detailed in this review. While a strong case can be made for pro-oxidant stressors in causing CRC,the role of food antioxidants in preventing CRC is less certain. It is clear that not every micronutrient with antioxidant activity can prevent CRC.It is plausible, however, that the optimal food antioxidants for preventing CRC have not yet been critically evaluated.Increasing evidence suggests that RRR-gamma-tocopherol(the primary dietary form of vitamin E)or other"non-alpha-tocopherol"forms of vitamin E(e.g.,tocotrienols)might be effective.Aspirin is an antioxidant and its consumption is linked to a decreased risk of CRC. 展开更多

Quoting Kant, freedom and ethical necessities are reciprocally limited. In this contribution, a more mathematical than philosophical reflection about reciprocity as an ever-present dual property of everything was given. As a crystallographer, the author is familiar with the action of Fourier transforms and the relation between a crystal lattice and its reciprocal lattice, already pointing to the duality between particles and waves. A generalization of the reciprocity term was stimulated by results of the famous Information Relativity (IR) theory of Suleiman with its proven physical manifestation of matter-wave duality, compared to the set-theoretical E-Infinity theory developed by El Naschie, where the zero set represents the pre-quantum particle, and the pre-quantum wave is assigned to the empty set boundary surrounding the pre-particle. Expectedly, the most irrational number of the golden mean is involved in these thoughts, because this number is intimately connected with its inverse. An important role plays further Hardy’s maximum quantum entanglement probability as the fifth power of φand its connection to the dark matter. Remembering, the eleven dimensions in Witten’s M-theory may be decomposed into the Lucas number L5 = 11 = φ−5 – φ5. Reciprocity is indeed omnipresent in our world as piloting waves that accompany all observable earthen and cosmic matter. As a side effect of the IR theory some fundamental constants such as the gyromagnetic factor of the electron, Sommerfeld’s fine-structure constant as well as the charge of the electron must be marginally changed caused by altered relativistic corrections. Consequences also arise for our vision about the evolution of life and consciousness. 展开更多

Sporadic E(Es)layers in the ionosphere are characterized by intense plasma irregularities in the E region at altitudes of 90-130 km.Because they can significantly influence radio communications and navigation systems, accurate forecasting of Es layers is crucial for ensuring the precision and dependability of navigation satellite systems. In this study,we present Es predictions made by an empirical model and by a deep learning model, and analyze their differences comprehensively by comparing the model predictions to satellite RO measurements and ground-based ionosonde observations. The deep learning model exhibited significantly better performance,as indicated by its high coefficient of correlation(r=0.87)with RO observations and predictions, than did the empirical model(r=0.53).This study highlights the importance of integrating artificial intelligence technology into ionosphere modelling generally, and into predicting Es layer occurrences and characteristics,in particular. 展开更多

Low rectal cancer is traditionally treated by abdominoperineal resection. In recent years, several new techniques for the treatment of very low rectal cancer patients aiming to preserve the gastrointestinal continuity and to improve both the oncological as well as the functional outcomes, have been emerged. Literature suggest that when the intersphincteric resection is applied in T1-3 tumors located within 30-35 mm from the anal verge, is technically feasible, safe, with equal oncological outcomes compared to conventional surgery and acceptable quality of life. The Anterior Perineal Plan E for Ultra-low Anterior Resection technique, is not disrupting the sphincters, but carries a high complication rate, while the reports on the oncological and functional outcomes are limited. Transanal Endoscopic Micro Surgery(TEM) and Trans Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery(TAMIS) should represent the treatment of choice for T1 rectal tumors, with specific criteria according to the NCCN guidelines and favorable pathologic features. Alternatively to the standard conventional surgery, neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy followed by TEM or TAMIS seems promising for tumors of a local stage T1sm2-3 or T2. Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision should be performed only when a board approved protocol is available by colorectal surgeons with extensive experience in minimally invasive and transanal endoscopic surgery. 展开更多

The present note is concerned with two connected and highly important fundamental questions of physics and cosmology, namely if E8E8 Lie symmetry group describes the universe and where cosmic dark energy comes from. Furthermore, we reason following Wheeler, Hartle and Hawking that since the boundary of a boundary is an empty set which models the quantum wave of the cosmos, then it follows that dark energy is a fundamental physical phenomenon associated with the boundary of the holographic boundary. This leads directly to a clopen universe which is its own Penrose tiling-like multiverse with energy density in full agreement with COBE, WMAP and Type 1a supernova cosmic measurements. 展开更多

AIM:To test the hypothesis that,in the Southeastern Brazilian population, the GSTT1,GSTM1 and CYP2E1 polymorphisms and putative risk factors are associated with an increased risk for gastric cancer. METHODS:We conducted a study on 100 cases of gastric cancer (GC),100 cases of chronic gastritis (CG),and 150 controls (C).Deletion of the GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes was assessed by multiplex PCR.CYP2E1/Pst1 genotyping was performed using a PCR-RFLP assay. RESULTS:No relationship between GSTT1/GSTM1 deletion and the c1/c2 genotype of CYP2E1 was observed among the three groups. However,a significant difference between CG and C was observed, due to a greater number of GSTT1/GSTM1 positive genotypes in the CG group. The GSTT1 null genotype occurred more frequently in Negroid subjects, and the GSTM1 null genotype in Caucasians, while the GSTM1 positive genotype was observed mainly in individuals with chronic gastritis infected with H pylori. CONCLUSION:Our findings indicate that there is no obvious relationship between the GSTT1,GSTM1 and CYP2E1 polymorphisms and gastric cancer. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Diabetic macular edema(DME)is the most common cause of vision loss in people with diabetes.Tight junction disruption of the retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)cells has been reported to induce DME development.SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin protein ligase(SMURF)1 was associated with the tight junctions of cells. However, the mechanism of SMURF1 in the DME process remains unclear.AIM To investigate the role of SMURF1 in RPE cell tight junction during DME.METHODS ARPE-19 cells treated with high glucose(HG)and desferrioxamine mesylate(DFX)for establishment of the DME cell model.DME mice models were constructed by streptozotocin induction. The trans-epithelial electrical resistance and permeability of RPE cells were analyzed. The expressions of tight junction-related and autophagy-related proteins were determined. The interaction between insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2(IGF2BP2)and SMURF1 mRNA was verified by RNA immunoprecipitation(RIP).SMURF1 N6-methyladenosine(m6A)level was detected by methylated RIP.RESULTS SMURF1 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)were upregulated in DME.SMURF1 knockdown reduced HG/DFX-induced autophagy, which protected RPE cell tight junctions and ameliorated retinal damage in DME mice.SMURF1 activated the Wnt/β-catenin-VEGF signaling pathway by promoting WNT inhibitory factor(WIF)1 ubiquitination and degradation.IGF2BP2 upregulated SMURF1 expression in an m6A modification-dependent manner.CONCLUSION M6A-modified SMURF1 promoted WIF1 ubiquitination and degradation, which activated autophagy to inhibit RPE cell tight junctions, ultimately promoting DME progression. 展开更多

In addition to being driven by tidal winds, the sporadic E(Es)layers are modulated by gravity waves(GWs),although the effects are not yet comprehensively understood. In this article,we discuss the effects of mesoscale GWs on the Es layers determined by using a newly developed model,MISE-1D(one-dimensional Model of Ionospheric Sporadic E),with low numerical dissipation and high resolution.Driven by the wind fields resolved by the high-resolution version of the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere and ionosphere extension(WACCM-X),the MISE-1D simulation revealed that GWs significantly influence the evolution of the Es layer above 100 km but have a very limited effect at lower altitudes. The effects of GWs are diverse and complex, generally including the generation of fluctuating wavelike structures on the Es layer with frequencies similar to those of the GWs.The mesoscale GWs can also cause increases in the density of Es layers,or they can disperse or diffuse the Es layers and increase their thickness. In addition, the presence of GWs is a key factor in sustaining the Es layers in some cases. 展开更多

It is well known that work done on a material by conservative forces (electrical, mechanical, chemical) will increase the Gibbs Potential of the material. The increase in Gibbs Potential can be stored in the material and is free/available to do work at some later time. However, it will be shown in this paper that while in this state of higher Gibbs potential, the material is metastable and the material will degrade spontaneously/naturally with time in an effort to reach a lower Gibbs Potential. A generalized Gibbs Potential Model is developed herein to better understand its impact on a materials degradation rate. Special attention will be given to dielectrics degradation. 展开更多

Objective: To examine and measure the decision-making processes involved in Visual Recognition of Facial Emotional Expressions (VRFEE) and to study the effects of demographic factors on this process. Method: We evaluated a newly designed software application (M.A.R.I.E.) that permits computerized metric measurement of VRFEE. We administered it to 204 cognitively normal participants ranging in age from 20 to 70 years. Results: We established normative values for the recognition of anger, disgust, joy, fear, surprise and sadness expressed on the faces of three individuals. There was a significant difference in the: 1) measurement (F (8.189) = 3896, p = 0.0001);2) education level (x2(12) = 28.4, p = 0.005);3) face (F(2.195) = 10, p = 0.0001);4)series (F (8.189)=28, p = 0.0001);5) interaction between the identity and recognition of emotions (F (16, 181 =11, p = 0.0001). However, performance did not differ according to: 1) age (F (6.19669) = 1.35, p = 0.2) or 2) level of education (F (1, 1587) = 0.6, p = 0.4). Conclusions: In healthy participants, the VRFEE remains stable throughout the lifespan when cognitive functions remain optimal. Disgust, sadness, fear, and joy seem to be the four most easily recognized facial emotions, while anger and surprise are not easily recognized. Visual recognition of disgust and fear is independent of aging. The characteristics of a face have a significant influence on the ease with which people recognize expressed emotions (idiosyncrasy). Perception and recognition of emotions is categorical, even when the facial images are integrated in a spectrum of morphs reflecting two different emotions on either side. 展开更多

Using Dvoretzky’s theorem in conjunction with Bohm’s picture of a quantum particle inside a guiding quantum wave akin to De Broglie-Bohm pilot wave we derive Einstein’s famous formula E = mc2 as the sum of two parts E(O) = mc2/22 of the quantum particle and E(D) = m c2 (21/22) of the quantum wave where m is the mass, c is the speed of light and E is the energy. In addition we look at the problem of black holes information in the presence of extra dimensions where it seems initially that extra dimensions would logically lead to a hyper-surface for a black hole and consequently a reduction of the corresponding information density due to the dilution effect of these additional dimensions. The present paper argues that the counterintuitive opposite of the above is what should be expected. Again this surprising result is a consequence of the same well known theorem on measure concentration due to I. Dvoretzky. We conclude that there are only two real applications of the theorem and we expect that many more applications in physics and cosmology will be found in due course. 展开更多

Eleutheroside B or E, the main component of Acanthopanax, can relieve fatigue, enhance memory, and improve human cognition. Numerous studies have confirmed that high doses of acetylcholine significantly attenuate clinical symptoms and delay the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The present study replicated a rat model of aging induced by injecting quinolinic acid into the hippocampal CA1 region. These rats were intraperitoneally injected with low, medium and high doses of eleutheroside B or E (50, 100, 200 mg/kg), and rats injected with Huperzine A or PBS were used as controls. At 4 weeks after administration, behavioral tests showed that the escape latencies and errors in searching for the platform in a Morris water maze were dose-dependently reduced in rats treated with medium and high-dose eleutheroside B or E. Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that the number of surviving hippocampal neurons was greater and pathological injury was milder in three eleutheroside B or E groups compared with model group. Hippocampal homogenates showed enhanced cholinesterase activity, and dose-dependent increases in acetylcholine content and decreases in choline content following eleutheroside B or E treatment, similar to those seen in the Huperzine A group. These findings indicate that eleutheroside B or E improves learning and memory in aged rats. These effects of eleutheroside B or E may be mediated by activation of cholinesterase or enhanced reuse of choline to accelerate the synthesis of acetylcholine in hippocampal neurons. 展开更多
