The rapid evolution of scientific and technological advancements and industrial changes has profoundly interconnected countries and regions in the digital information era,creating a globalized environment where effective communication is paramount.Consequently,the demand for proficient interpreting skills within the scientific and technology sectors has surged,making effective language communication increasingly crucial.This paper explores the potential impact of translation universals on enhancing sci-tech simultaneous interpreter education.By examining the selection of teaching materials,methods,and activities through the lens of translation universals,this study aims to improve the quality of teaching content,innovate instructional approaches,and ultimately,enhance the effectiveness of interpreter education.The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights for curriculum development and pedagogical strategies in interpreter education.

Mapping the small-world properties of brain networks in Chinese to English simultaneous interpreting by using functional near-infrared spectroscopy

The aim of this study is to examine the small-world properties of functional brain networks inChinese to English simultaneous interpreting(SI)using functional near-infrared spectroscopy(INIRS),In particular,the fNIRS neuroimaging combined with complex network analysis wasperformed to extract the features of functional brain networks underling three translationstrategies associated with Chinese to English SI:"transcoding"that takes the"shortcut"linkingtranslation equivalents between Chinese and the English,code-mixing"that basically does notinvolve blingual procesing,and"transphrasingn that takes the long route"involving amonolingual processing of meaning in Chinese and then another monolingual processing ofmeaning in English.Our results demonstrated that the small-world net work topology was able todistinguish well bet ween the transcoding,code-mixing and transphrasing strategies related toChinese to English SI.

The Analysis of Omission in Simultaneous Interpreting

Omission is very common in simultaneous interpretation. In the past, omission has often been thought of as a mistranslation. However in recent years, more and more scholars study and find that proper use of omission in the simultaneous interpreting will not affect the completeness and accuracy of the original. At the same time it can make the translation more concise and fluent,easy to understand, even save more time for an interpreter.

The Efficiency of Syntactic Linearity in Simultaneous Interpreting

With the development of our country, the use of simultaneous interpretation also increased greatly. As everyone knows, simultaneous interpreting is a very complex task. Therefore, the interpreters need to grasp some particular strategies to reduce the difficulty of simultaneous interpreting. Then this thesis aims to discuss the efficiency of Syntactic Linearity in Simultaneous Interpreting.The theory evidence of this thesis comes from the most fundamental principle in Simultaneous Interpreting, that is, syntactic linearity, which helps the interpreters to deal with long and complex sentences even if he or she has no time to hear and remember the whole sentence.

On the Language Direction in Chinese/English Simultaneous Interpreting

This study was designed to analyze specifically the impact of language direction on professional Chinese /English interpreters'performance and strategy use through their experience of simultaneous interpreting in different language directions. Simultaneous interpreting ( SI) is a kind of translation that constituted by orally translating the message heard in one language into another language immediately and continuously,and at the meanwhile the message will not stop being produced. The unique characteristics of simultaneous interpretation and the various factors that will have great impact on the procession and performance of Chinese / English SI were taken into discussion. It should be noted that unlike in daily communication situations,comprehension and production are often overlapping in simultaneous interpreting. Concurrent comprehension of the source language and production of the target language is perhaps the most unique characteristic of the SI task. Drawn from the effort model proposed by Gile,simultaneous interpreting is accomplished by the sharing of four major efforts: listening and analyzing,producion,memory,and coordination. In other words,while a comprehension problem will have a negative effect on production,a production problem also has conse-quences for comprehension. In this study I illustrate arguments for interpreting of L1 to L2 and L2 to L1 language respectively,described the studies about interpreters' strategy use and the relationship between language direction and SI strategy use. Interpreters' performance of simultaneous interpreting in different directions was determined by a few factors,including the context,personal factors,and interpreting norms. Studies showed that professional interpreters who must interpret regularly and simultaneously in both directions may develop strategic approaches to meet the different demands of A-to-B and B-to-A interpreting. Strategy use can be defined in this study as any goal-oriented,potentially conscious employment of tactics designed to overcome the processing problems interpreters encountered during simultaneous interpreting. This definition involves interpreters'responses to any problems occurring during the stages of comprehension,translation,or production. As demonstrated in this study,strategies were applied throughout the interpreting as a general approach to the interpreting task,namely anticipating,restructuring,generalizing,visualizing and among others. The difference in interpreters' performances seems not only to be a result of the disparity between their A and B language proficiency,but also a result of their awareness of their language abilities,the tactics available to them and other norms they apply to their performance,as well as the speech structures of their working languages. This study not only sheds lights on the differences of performance and strategy use among interpreters working with different language directions,but can also contribute to the design of more effective interpreting teaching programs.

A Review on Research on Technology-Assisted Simultaneous Interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting(SI)has undergone a long historical period.With a variety of technologies employed in SI,the researches on it have taken on some new features and brought about new inspirations to this industry.This paper aims at first introducing various technologies or technological tools used in interpreting,and then reviewing on the history of the development of technology-assisted interpreting,the current researches,and their limitations,and finally drawing some inspirations from the past researches of technology-assisted SI,to offer some proposals on the future research trends on technology-assisted SI,ranging from carrying out more empirical studies and surveys to collect interpreters’attitudes towards technology used in SI,to conducting psychological experiments to analyze and explain interpreters’emotional response to technology-assisted SI,to designing specific measurements and indicators to reveal interpreters’discomfort experienced during technology-assisted SI.

An Experiment Report on the Linguistic Readiness of Simultaneous Interpreting Trainees

Linguistic readiness,which refers to language efficiency required for simultaneous interpretation,is different from that in daily communication.This experiment aims at observing the linguistic readiness of simultaneous interpreting trainees,targeting eight post-graduate students majoring in interpretation.After a mock simultaneous interpreting task,the performance of the trainees will be assessed by themselves and three native speakers as well.Through the comparison of the assessment made by the trainees and the native speakers,the author aims at exploring the gap between the number of information points that the trainees think they have delivered and the number that native speakers obtain from the trainees’production,and classifying those information points that could not be understood by native speakers into different types.A conclusion is reached that their linguistic readiness needs to be improved.Therefore,it is necessary to pay more attention to linguistic readiness in interpreting training.

By comparing and analyzing the results of two tests, this thesis comes to the conclusion that working memory capacity is positively correlated with E-C consecutive interpreting in terms of fluency and logic.

由于多模态同传语料库针对不同的口译难点与口译现象进行了标注,且能够直观地呈现文字、图像及听到口译的语音,因此可在口译难点教学及训练中得到应用。教师可以利用多模态口译语料库检索各种不同的口译难点,讲解真实的口译现象及口译技巧,并可以针对不同学员的特点,有针对性地选择各种口译难点进行跟读、视译及模拟口译训练。在训练过程中,学生可先听原文并尝试口译,然后再播放职业译员的语音,比较并发现与职业译员的差距,从而更好地提升自己的口译能力。
