The electroredox behavior of novel modified electrodes coated with complexes of different polyviologens was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. The influences of compositions of electrolyte complex on the reversibility of the modified electrode and the electrochromic properties were studied also. It was found that all the ratios of integrated charges of cathodic to anodic scan (Qc/QA) are close to 1, which indicates that these modified electrodes have good reversible behavior. Repeated stepping over the first wave for 500 scans, the PSS-PX(p)V modified electrode showed excellent stability. The first reduction potential (E1), decrease of current height (Dec%), response time (tre tox) of various polyviologen modified electrodes were reported. In addition, the effect of the coverage of polyviologen on the electrode surface was also examined. The rate of electron transfer in this heterogeneous system is diffusion-controlled, consistent with the Conttrell equation. 展开更多

The polarized EL spectra with E||[110] and E || [150] directions, are extracted for different injected currents. The mode splitting of the two orthogonal polarized modes for a VCSEL device is determined, and its value increases linearly with the increasing injected current due to electro-optic birefringence; This article demonstrates that the polarized EL is a powerful tool to study the mode splitting and polarization anisotropy of a VCSEL device. 展开更多

Boron doped diamond(BDD)performs well in electrochemical oxidation for organic pollutants thanks to its wide electrochemical window and superior chemical stability.We presented a method to obtain well-adherent large-scale BDD/Nb electrode by the modified hot filament chemical vapor deposition system(HFCVD).SiC particles were sand blasted to enhance the adhesion of BDD coating.The BDD coating was then deposited on both sides of Nb which was placed vertically and closely with filament grids on both sides.The BDD/Nb electrodes had no deformation because the thermal deformations of the BDD films on both sides of the Nb substrate conteracted each other during cooling process after deposition.The surface morphology and purity of the BDD/Nb electrode were analyzed by Raman and scanning elestron microscope(SEM)techniques.Scratch test was used to investigate the adhesion of BDD films.The electrochemical performances were measured by cyclic voltammetry test.The BDD electrode at the B/C ratio of 2 000×10^(-6) held a higher oxygen evolution potential thanks to its high sp3 carbon content.Accelerated life test illustrated that the sandblasting pretreatment obviously enhanced the adhesion of BDD coating which resulted in a longer service duration than the un-sandblasted one. 展开更多

The crystal structure, phase abundance and the electrochemical properties of Zr(Mn1-x Nix)2 (0.40 ≤x≤0.75) alloys were investigated by means of XRD, Rietveld refinement method and electrochemical measurements. The alloys are multiphase. C15 Laves phase occurs as a main phase accompanying with C14 phase and other minor phases, indicating that Ni element is C15-stabilized element for ZrMn2 alloy. The phase abundance and lattice parameters of Laves phase are influenced significantly by Ni substitution. The Zr(Mn0.45 Ni0.55)2 alloy with the highest amount of C15 phase exhibits the maximum electrochemical capacity of 242m Ah/g. C14 phase occurring in Zr-Mn-Ni alloys is beneficial for the electrochemical kinetics of hydride electrodes. 展开更多

The chemically modi- fied electrodes exhilbited an excellent permselectivity for uric acid of undissociated form in an acidic medium. The current response sensitivity of uric acid at the modi- fied electrodes was markedly increased by properly anodizing activation of underly- ing electrodes and overoxidizing treatment of polypyrrole film. The voltammetric response of uric acid at the chemically modified electrode was linearly related to itinvestigatedtion in the range of 4. 0 ×10-7 -8. 0 ×10-5 mol/L in pH 5 buffer solu- tions. Ascorbic acid in less than 150-fold excess did not interfere with the voltam- metric determination of uric acid. The proposed procedure was utilized to determine uric acicl in human urine and serum samples without any pretreatment. 展开更多

By method of the Laplace transform, this arti- cle presents semi-analytical solutions for transient electro- osmotic and pressure-driven flows (EOF/PDF) of two-layer fluids between microparallel plates. The linearized Poisson- Boltzmann equation and the Cauchy momentum equation have been solved in this article. At the interface, the Maxwell stress is included as the boundary condition. By numerical computations of the inverse Laplace transform, the effects of dielectric constant ratio e, density ratio p, pressure ratio p, viscosity ratioμ of layer II to layer I, interface zeta potential difference △ψ, interface charge density jump Q, the ratios of maximum electro-osmotic velocity to pressure velocity , and the normalized pressure gradient B on transient veloc- ity amplitude are presented.We find the velocity amplitude becomes large with the interface zeta potential difference and becomes small with the increase of the viscosity. The ve- locity will be large with the increases of dielectric constant ratio; the density ratio almost does not influence the EOF ve- locity. Larger interface charge density jump leads to a strong jump of velocity at the interface. Additionally, the effects of the thickness of fluid layers (hi and h2) and pressure gradient on the velocity are also investigated. 展开更多

Surface Modification of NiTi Alloy via Cathodic Plasma Electrolytic Deposition and its Effect on Ni Ion Release and Osteoblast Behaviors

To reduce Ni ion release and improve biocompatibility of NiTi alloy, the cathodic plasma electrolytic deposition (CPED) technique was used to fabricate ceramic coating onto a NiTi alloy surface. The formation of a coating with a rough and micro-textured surface was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, re- spectively. An inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry test showed that the formed coating significantly reduced the release of Ni ions from the NiTi alloy in simulated body fluid. The in- fluence of CPED treated NiTi substrates on the biological behaviors of osteoblasts, including cell adhesion, cell viability, and osteogenic differentiation function (alkaline phosphatase), was inves- tigated in vitro. Immunofluorescence staining of nuclei revealed that the CPED treated NiTi alloy was favorable for cell growth. Osteoblasts on CPED modified NiTi alloy showed greater cell viability than those for the native NiTi substrate after 4 and 7 days cultures. More importantly, osteoblasts cultured onto a modified NiTi sample displayed significantly higher differentiation lev-els of alkaline phosphatase. The results suggested that surface functionalization of NiTi alloy with ceramic coating via the CPED technique was beneficial for cell proliferation and differentiation. The approach presented here is useful for NiTi implants to enhance bone osseointegration and reduce Ni ion release in vitro. 展开更多

Structural characteristics of Alo.55 Gao.45N epilayer were investigated by high resolution x-ray diffraction(HRXRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM);the epilayer was grown on GaN/sapphire substrates using a high-temperature A1 N interlayer by metal organic chemical vapor deposition technique.The mosaic characteristics including tilt,twist,heterogeneous strain,and correlation lengths were extracted by symmetric and asymmetric XRD rocking curves as well as reciprocal space map(RSM).According to Williamson-Hall plots,the vertical coherence length of AlGaN epilayer was calculated,which is consistent with the thickness of AlGaN layer measured by cross section TEM.Besides,the lateral coherence length was determined from RSM as well.Deducing from the tilt and twist results,the screw-type and edge-type dislocation densities are 1.0×10~8 cm^(-2) and 1.8×10^(10) cm^(-2),which agree with the results observed from TEM. 展开更多

It was confirmed that viscous technique processed bulk YBa_2Cu_3O_(7-δ) has a homoge-neous microstructure across the pellet diameter. Concerning the thin film, it was found that 2  ̄H ̄+ ion implanta-tion with a dose of 1× 10 ̄(12)cm ̄(-2) at 50 keV does not cause microstructural change of the film at a micrometrelevel. Landfill leachate treated with combined process of "pretreatment +biological treatment +advanced treatment (NF)" to produce nanofiltration concentrate, which bio-chemical ratio (B/C) is less than 0.1 and CODer concentration is 2 000-2 500 mg/L, high salt content. Which cannot be discharged under existing environ- mental standards. According to analysis based on electrochemical advanced oxidation mechanism, a two-step electrochemical tech- nique was recommended. In the first step, a pulse electrochemical technique was adopted. With Fe as consumption electrode and current density of 10 mA/cm2, the pollutants were removed by means of Fenton reaction, electroflotation and electrocoagulation. In the second step, a double function electrode was used to per- form electrocatalytic oxidation by means of titanium metallic oxi- dates. In the condition that current density being 12.5 mA/cm2, the pollutants were further removed by oxidation and electrolytic deposition. Result shows that the removing rate of CODer, NH3-N and CI were 70%-85%, 90% and 25%, respectively; average value of B/C ratio increased from 0.09 to 0.38 and conductivity reduced by 10%. 展开更多

With the aim to enhance the energy conversion efficiency of the rainbow shape piezoelectric transducer, an analysis model of energy conversion efficiency is established based on the elastic mechanics theory and piezoelectricity theory. It can be found that the energy conversion efficiency of the rainbow shape piezoelectric transducer mainly depends on its shape parameters and ma- terial properties from the analysis model. Simulation results show that there is an optimal length ratio to generate maximum en- ergy conversion efficiency and the optimal length ratios and energy conversion efficiencies of beryllium bronze substrate trans- ducer and steel substrate transducer are (0.65, 2.21%) and (0.65, 1.64%) respectively. The optimal thickness ratios and energy conversion efficieneies of beryllium bronze substrate transducer and steel substrate transducer are (1.16, 2.56%) and (1.49, 1.57%) respectively. With the increase of width ratio and initial curvature radius, both the energy conversion efficiencies de- crease. Moreover, beryllium bronze flexible substrate transducer is superior to the steel flexible substrate transducer. 展开更多

From a limit model in electric field obtained by letting the frequency vanish in the time-harmonic Maxwell equations, we consider a limit perturbation model in the tangential boundary trace of the curl of the electric field for localizing numerically certain small electromagnetic inhomogeneities, in a three-dimensional bounded domain. We introduce here two localization procedures resulting from the combination of this limit perturbation model with each of the following inversion processes: the Current Projection method and an Inverse Fourier method. Each localization procedure uses, as data, a finite number of boundary measurements, and is employed in the single inhomogeneity case; only the one based on an Inverse Fourier method is required in the multiple inhomogeneities case. Our localization approach is numerically suitable for the context of inhomogeneities that are not purely electric. We compare the numerical results obtained from the two localization procedures in the single inhomogeneity configuration, and describe, in various settings of multiple inhomogeneities, the results provided by the procedure based on an Inverse Fourier method. 展开更多
