These filters, however, introduce a pressure drop which results in a loss of energy. It is shown that over the life cycle of a compressed air filter, the pressure drop dominates the total energy consumption and subsequently, the carbon footprint. From an economic as well as ecologic point of view, a reduction of the pressure drop is hence of utmost importance. Based on this finding and structuring, the wide range of applications and operational parameters, a pragmatic and technically feasible eco-labeling system for compressed air filters was developed as a decision supporting tool. Using this tool, procurement managers as well as the process engineers and environmental officers are able to steer the selection of suitable compressed air filters. The approach has been proposed to and discussed with various representatives of the compressed air filter industry nevertheless there is probably a long way to go to establish such a labeling procedure in industry.展开更多

The second objective of the study was to evaluate the perceptions of the consumers regarding eco-label wines, with a direct focus on the attitudes of millennial generation. Two surveys, one directed to biodynamic producers in the United States and the other to a group of Californian wine consumers were distributed during spring and fall of 2010. Findings from the first survey reveal that biodynamic producers are engaged in biodynamic practices out of socially motivated reasons rather than economic factors. Results from the consumer survey suggest a generally uninformed generation of consumers about eco-label wines and particularly about the practices associated with these products. This lack of information heavily influences their behavioral decisions and attitudes and points out to the critical need for consumer education.展开更多

Considering these needs, designers, manufacturers and construction companies should be able to make use of web and design tools for collecting and inventorying a large variety of environmentally friendly materials, through a specific database that encloses low carbon certified products and eco-labeled ones. The eco-labels are internationally identified as the best tools to encourage the spread of green products and low carbon notions, even if in Europe, there is no specific tool to be used. The project called LoCaMat (Low Carbon Material Database) will act as the first Italian and European database that encompasses multiple data on certified green materials to be used for the construction sector, making buildings climate change resilient, ensuring an efficient use of energy and resources, getting to a complete life cycle assessment for buildings materials and components, encompassing, for the first time, green data and every kind of environmental specs for sustainable design and green practice.展开更多

The aims of the study were to explore factors affecting farmers’ implementation of WFF practices on Sado Island, Japan and to consider the policy implications of disseminating such practices. All 5010 farming households on Sado Island, who are distributing rice to Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA), were surveyed. In total, 2231 households responded to the questionnaire (response 44.5%). By comparing the attitudes, beliefs, and attributes of non-certiifed versus certiifed farmers, we identiifed key factors affecting farmers’ implementation of WFF practices. Compared with non-certified farmers, certified farmers: (i) showed a greater interest in biodiversity and the ifnancial beneifts of WFF; (i) had a larger number of certiifed farmer friends; (ii) felt many more pressures and expectations from consumers, in particular; and (iv) were not hampered by bad labor or farmland conditions when implementing WFF practices. To further disseminate WFF practices in Sado, we suggest that the information on the effectiveness of WFF on paddy ifeld biodiversity is used in public education, and opportunities for interchanging opinions are set up between non-certiifed and certiifed farmers, as wel as between farmers and consumers.展开更多
