The global shift toward next-generation energy systems is propelled by the urgent need to combat climate change and the dwindling supply of fossil fuels.This review explores the intricate challenges and opportunities ...The global shift toward next-generation energy systems is propelled by the urgent need to combat climate change and the dwindling supply of fossil fuels.This review explores the intricate challenges and opportunities for transitioning to sustainable renewable energy sources such as solar,wind,and hydrogen.This transition economically challenges traditional energy sectors while fostering new industries,promoting job growth,and sustainable economic development.The transition to renewable energy demands social equity,ensuring universal access to affordable energy,and considering community impact.The environmental benefits include a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a lesser ecological footprint.This study highlights the rapid growth of the global wind power market,which is projected to increase from$112.23 billion in 2022 to$278.43 billion by 2030,with a compound annual growth rate of 13.67%.In addition,the demand for hydrogen is expected to increase,significantly impacting the market with potential cost reductions and making it a critical renewable energy source owing to its affordability and zero emissions.By 2028,renewables are predicted to account for 42%of global electricity generation,with significant contributions from wind and solar photovoltaic(PV)technology,particularly in China,the European Union,the United States,and India.These developments signify a global commitment to diversifying energy sources,reducing emissions,and moving toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.This review offers stakeholders the insights required to smoothly transition to sustainable energy,setting the stage for a resilient future.展开更多
The 21st century has seen the world superpowers,such as Russia and China and multi-lateral agencies encourage backward states to embrace and promote foreign direct investment(FDI)as an instrument to improve domestic p...The 21st century has seen the world superpowers,such as Russia and China and multi-lateral agencies encourage backward states to embrace and promote foreign direct investment(FDI)as an instrument to improve domestic production which will lead to economic growth and development.This is premised on the fact that FDI comes with transfer of technology,new and advanced management approaches,technical skills,and access to international markets.However,researchers have shown that occasionally FDI inflows achieve the opposite as they compete for the same markets with local industries and,as a result,they crowd out local industries leading to higher unemployment.Further,research has shown that most international financial crises were caused by rapid withdrawal of FDI.In essence,FDI can have positive and can also have negative effects on economic growth.Against this background,this discussion seeks to outline and look at the threats and opportunities that backward states,such as those in Africa will draw from the 21st century FDI from world superpowers.展开更多
Increasing popularity of spectrum-based services brings the striking contradictions between the limited spectrum resource and its increasing demands.This paper puts forward an approach to forecast the future spectrum ...Increasing popularity of spectrum-based services brings the striking contradictions between the limited spectrum resource and its increasing demands.This paper puts forward an approach to forecast the future spectrum demand and its economic value,so as to offer a scientific basis for spectrum regulators to resolve this contradiction effectively and make a long-term spectrum-use plan.Specifically,this paper analyzes the driving factors of spectrum demand firstly,based on which a forecasting model is constructed to predict the spectrum demand and its deficit/surplus in the next few years.Then,a forecasting model to measure the economic value of spectrum is proposed based on marginal opportunity cost theory,and the indifference curve is introduced to show the economic value generated by additional spectrum.Additionally,an empirical study is conducted to forecast the spectrum demand and its economic value for China in the next 10 years according to the proposed method.The results of this study show that spectrum deficit is a trend in future and releasing additional spectrum will bring China huge economic benefits.展开更多
In the era of the second demographic transition,“diverging destinies”theory states that women with the most economic opportunities often obtain gains while women with the least economic opportunities suffer from los...In the era of the second demographic transition,“diverging destinies”theory states that women with the most economic opportunities often obtain gains while women with the least economic opportunities suffer from losses.Using nationally represent-ative data from the 2017 China Fertility Survey,we attempted to examine if diverg-ing destinies theory can explain differences in the incidence of induced abortion among women with differing economic opportunities.We found that women with good economic opportunities(i.e.,well-educated and holding urban hukou)were more likely to have induced abortions between 1980 and 2010 and less likely to do so between 2015 and 2017.Moreover,younger cohorts were far more likely to have induced abortions at a younger age and before marriage.These findings provide sup-portive evidence for diverging destinies in induced abortion scenarios in China.We thus advocate that sexual and reproductive health policy making shows an overarch-ing concern for the interests of disadvantaged groups.展开更多
