An anode with a new design was tested. It incorporates two slots that allow an efficient removal of gas bubbles. The electromagnetic fields were described by solving Maxwell's equations. The bubble movement was studied with two-way coupling Euler-Lagrange approach. The interplay of current density and bubble nucleation rate was included. The collision and coalescence of bubbles were considered. Random walk module was invoked for involving the chaotic effect of the turbulence. The numerical results were validated by experimental measurements. The results indicate that the current distribution and the bubble nucleation periodically change. Due to the slot, the bubble elimination heavily increases. The contribution of the slot to the bubble removal exceeds 50% in the case of three currents, and the promotion of the slot decays with increasing the current.展开更多

EPP treatment was carried out on AZ31 Mg alloys matrix under a hybrid voltage of AC of 200 V combined with DC of 260 V for 30 min. Structural and morphological analyses of ceramic coatings were analyzed by XRD and SEM. Wear and hardness of coatings were measured by pin-on disk test and Vickers hardness test. The coatings formed in Na2SiF6 and NaF electrolytes were mainly composed of MgO and Mg2SiO4. The measured micro-hardness of coating formed in Na2SiF6 electrolyte was found to be over HV 1100, while, coating formed in NaF electrolyte possessed micro-hardness of HV ~900. These results show that the mechanical properties of AZ31 B Mg alloys can be enhanced by the proper selection of electrolyte agent.展开更多

The electrolysis of various Mg O resources was conducted using a Cu cathode in MgF2– LiF – KCl molten salt at 1043 K by applying an average current of 1.44 A for 12.5 h. The electrolysis of calcined North Korean magnesite and seawater Mg O clinker yielded Mg alloys of MgCu2and(Cu) phases with current efficiencies of 89.6–92.4%. The electrolysis of oxidized Mg O-C refractory brick, aged ferronickel slag, and ferronickel slag yielded Mg alloys of MgCu2and(Cu) phases with current efficiencies of 59.3–92.3%. The vacuum distillation of Mg alloys obtained was conducted at 1300 K for 10 h to produce high-purity Mg metal. After vacuum distillation, Mg metal with a purity of above 99.994% was obtained. Therefore, this study demonstrates the feasibility of the production of high-purity Mg metal from various Mg O resources using a novel electrolytic process with a Cu cathode, followed by vacuum distillation.展开更多

However, when grinding spectrosil 2000 and BK7 glass assisted with ELID technology, a deeply comparative study on material removal mechanism and the wheel wear behaviors have not been given yet. In this paper, the micro/nano indentation technique is initially applied for investigating the mechanical properties of optical glasses, whose results are then refereed to evaluate the machinability. In single grit diamond scratching on glasses, the scratching traces display four kinds of scratch characteristics according to different material removal modes. In normal grinding experiments, the result shows BK7 glass has a better machinability than that of spectrosil 2000, corresponding to what the micro/nano indentation vent revealed. Under the same grinding depth parameters, the smaller amplitude of acoustic emission (AE) raw signals, grinding force and grinding force ratio correspond to a better surface quality. While for these two kinds of glasses, with the increasing of grinding depth, the variation trends of the surface roughness, the force ratio, and the AE raw signals are contrary, which should be attributed to different material removal modes. Moreover, the SEM micrographs of used wheels surface indicate that diamond grains on the wheel surface after grinding BK7 glass are worn more severely than that of spectrosil 2000. The proposed research analyzes what happened in the grinding process with different material removal patterns, which can provide a basis for producing high-quality optical glasses and comprehensively evaluate the surface and subsurface integrity of optical glasses.展开更多

The Brazilian environmental agency has established that the concentrations of chromate in water courses are less than 0.5 ppm. In order to reuse chromate (CrO42) from industrial effluent, laboratory experiments have been proposed based on chemical reduction or electrolytic processes, in order to transform these chromate ions in a final mix of oxides (in solid form), which can then be packed and sent to the production process of sodium chromate. The results of these experiments have become useful industrially (without regard to costs) considering the environmental reuse and the life cycle of the chemical compound.展开更多

The as-deposited coatings were then post-treated using two different methods, viz., ultrasonic vibration-aided vacuum oil impregnation(UVOI) and oil impregnation under ambient pressure(OIAP). After posttreatment, an oil-containing, self-lubricating top layer was formed on the coatings. The effects of the coatings' surface morphologies and structures on their oil-holding capabilities were discussed. The results revealed that coatings prepared with higher frequency had a greater oil-holding capacity using OIAP post-treatment, while those prepared with lower frequency had a greater oil-containing capability using UVOI post-treatment. These phenomena are related to the morphologies of the coatings produced with various current modes. The tribological properties of the coatings before and after post-treatments were investigated by pin-on-disc sliding wear tests. Due to the formation of a lubricant-containing top layer, the post-treatment coatings had a lower friction coefficient and improved wear resistance compared with the asdeposited coatings. In addition, the coatings after UVOI treatment had better wear performance than those post-treated using the OIAP process. Among all coatings, the coating produced with a 50-Hz pulsed current followed by UVOI posttreatment achieved the lowest friction coefficient(0.03) and best wear resistance when sliding against a Si3N4 ceramic counterface. This study indicates that a novel self-lubricating coating can be prepared by a PEO process combined with vacuum oil impregnation post-treatment.展开更多
