However, recent studies have provided evidence on the variations of metaphor under different cultures. In order to look into the relationship between metaphor and culture, this study reviews some related empirical studies. Previous studies can mainly be divided into three interrelated sections, namely (1) understanding self and the other with metaphor; (2) the role of metaphor in cross-cultural communication; (3) how culture shapes people' s perception of the world through metaphor. Concluded from the review, though it is still hard to offer a definite answer to the role of culture in metaphor formation, it would be fair to say that metaphor can be helpful in studying various cultures.展开更多
