AIM:To determine the Bruch's membrane opening-minimum rim width(BMO-MRW) tipping point where corresponding visual field(VF) damages become detectable.METHODS:A total of 85 normal subjects and 83 glaucoma patients(one eye per participant) were recruited for the study. All of the patients had VF examinations and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography to measure the BMO-MRW.Total deviation values for 52 VF points were allocated to the corresponding sector according to the Garway-Heath distribution map.To evaluate the relationship between VF loss and BMOMRW measurements,a "broken-stick" statistical model was used. The tipping point where the VF values started to sharply decrease as a function of BMO-MRW measurements was estimated and the slopes above and below this tipping point were compared.RESULTS:A 25.9% global BMO-MRW loss from normative value was required for the VF loss to be detectable.Sectorally, substantial BMO-MRW thinning in inferotemporal sector(33.1%) and relatively less BMO-MRW thinning in the superotemporal sector(8.9%) were necessary for the detection of the VF loss.Beyond the tipping point, the slopes were close to zero throughout all of the sectors and the VF loss was unrelated to the BMO-MRW loss. The VF loss was related to the BMO-MRW loss below the tipping point. The difference between the two slopes was statistically significant(P≤0.002).CONCLUSION:Substantial BMO-MRW loss appears to be necessary for VF loss to be detectable in patients with open angle glaucoma with standard achromatic perimetry. 展开更多

China’s booming economy and the growing demand of urban middle class are creating a favorable situation for the development of domestic cultural and creative industry. The consumption pattern has changed and families spend more outlay on cultural products and services.Within this flourishing industry, many museums caught development opportunities and began to get profit through successfully promoting their own cultural and creative products. However,it is unusual that Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, enjoying high social status and a reputation for world cultural heritage as well as a national 5A level tourist attraction, regretfully, did not achieve noticeable achievements in this area. Therefore, based on STP theory, the purpose of this paper is to study the reasons why this museum fails to fulfill its potential in promising cultural and creative industry and give some suggestions to the development and promotion of its cultural and creative goods. 展开更多

Styrax is also called“emperor’s cream”and“consciousness-regaining spice.”The alias“emperor’s cream”shows its rarity and preciousness with a strong aroma, and another name of“consciousness-regaining spice”implies its functions of active brain and regaining consciousness, dispelling filth with aroma, and relieving pain. The name of“Styrax”displays its complex productive progress and place of origin. With thick quality, heavyweight, and fragrant smell,Styrax gets further application in beauty, skin care, clothes fumigating, and health keeping after introduced into the Central Plains(central China)from the Western Regions. The name of Styrax not only embodies the mellow appeal of spice culture in the Western Regions but also suggests the history of relationship between foreign culture and traditional Chinese medicine.Furthermore,it indicates the broad mind of“all rivers running into sea”and inclusiveness of Chinese culture. 展开更多

Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations. The present study is the first investigation of the reception of the seven Spanish versions of Huangdi Neijing in terms of three parameters:collection records in libraries worldwide;book reviews and citation counts in international journals;and customer reviews on Amazon. The results revealed four features of Spanish translations and communication of Huangdi Neijing in terms of reception of academia, reception of general readers, the center of translation and communication, and the role of Chinese scholars. These factors demonstrate the marginal status of Spanish translations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics. The implications are summarized in hopes of promoting the translation and communication of TCM classics in the Spanish-speaking world and to provide insights into the communication of TCM culture in the non-English-speaking world. 展开更多

The coronavirus disease-19(COVID-19)pandemic has been a wake-up call in which has forced us to react worldwide.Health policies and practices have attracted particular attention in terms of human and financial cost. Before COVID-19,chronic kidney disease was already considered a risk multiplier in patients with diabetes and hypertension, the two now being the major risk factors for COVID-19 infection and adverse outcome. In contrast to the urgent need for action, the nephrology field is considered to be in a state of stagnation regarding the management of chronic kidney disease patients who still experience unacceptably high morbidity and mortality.Ironically and paradoxically in a field lacking robust clinical trials, clinical practice is driven by guidelines-based medicine on weak evidence. The Emperor’s syndrome, referring to Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, has been described in medicine as voluntary blindness to an obvious truth, being a weak evidence-based therapeutic intervention or weak health care.A promising positive example of improving heart and kidney outcomes is the emerging treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors.COVID-19 could boost actions for patient-centered care as a positive shift in nephrology care. 展开更多

Of 149 cases.infantile diarrhea were treated with Zhou’s multiapplied rapid-sticking herbomoxa-pen.The main acupoints selected were Auriculoapex,Tianshu(ST 25),Zusanli(ST 36),Shenshu(BL 23),etc.TWO groups were observed,32 cases from the 149 cases as therapid-sticking moxatherapy(RSMT)group who suffered from the acute diarrhea without any thera-peutics before, and the other 35 cases with western medicine as the control group. Results showedthat the recovering rate and the average therapeutic course of healing in RSMT group were higher andshorter than that in control one(P【0.05;P【0.01),even without marked difference of the total ef-fective rates between the two groups(P】0.05).Of 149 cases with RSMT,the therapeutic effect onacute ones was better than those on delayed and chronic ones(P【0.05),yet the difference was notmarked in therapeutic effects between the etiological causes of infections and non-infections(P】 0.0.5).It is therefore worthy of popularizing RSMT due to its remarked curative results without anyside-effect,simply-manipulated and well-accepted features. 展开更多

The white jade worship, born in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, brought about a "Protestant Revolution" in the development history of Chinese jade mythology, which had deep influence on the nation's ideology and material production in the following 3,000 years. The myths of the Yellow Emperor's eating the white jade cream and the Queen Mother of the West living in Kunlun Jade Mountain, as recorded in Classic of Mountains and Seas, are mythological imaginations of the historical reality that the jades were spread from the West to the East and recreated by people living in the early state of the Central Plains. All such motifs, no matter the white jade cream that produced black jades, the Yellow Emperor's planting the jade flowers, the Kunlun Jade Mountains (the Mountain of Jades) where the Queen Mother of the West lives or the Jade Lake, clearly show Chinese indigenous worship for the white jades. Scholars like Su Xuelin and Ling Chunsheng think that Queen Mother of the West is the goddess of the moon that originated from the old West Asian civilization. However, such idea is full of contradictions and flaws after the discovery of Chinese unique worship for white jades and the holy mountain of Kunlun. The book Classic of Mountains and Seas, with records of 140 mountains that produce jades and 16 mountains that produce white jades, can be the white jade worshippers' bible to explore the holy material resources. 展开更多
