In recent days,internet of things is widely implemented in Wireless Sensor Network(WSN).It comprises of sensor hubs associated together through the WSNs.The WSNis generally affected by the power in battery due to the linked sensor nodes.In order to extend the lifespan of WSN,clustering techniques are used for the improvement of energy consumption.Clustering methods divide the nodes in WSN and form a cluster.Moreover,it consists of unique Cluster Head(CH)in each cluster.In the existing system,Soft-K means clustering techniques are used in energy consumption in WSN.The soft-k means algorithm does not work with the large-scale wireless sensor networks,therefore it causes reliability and energy consumption problems.To overcome this,the proposed Load-Balanced Clustering conjunction with Coyote Optimization with Fuzzy Logic(LBC-COFL)algorithm is used.The main objective is to perform the lifespan by balancing the gateways with the load of less energy.The proposed algorithm is evaluated using the metrics such as energy consumption,throughput,central tendency,network lifespan,and total energy utilization. 展开更多

This paper considers a high energy efficiency dynamic connected(HEDC)structure,which promotes the practicability and reduces the power consumption of hybrid precoding system by lowresolution phase shifters(PSs).Based on the proposed structure,a new hybrid precoding algorithm is presented to optimize the energy efficiency,namely,HP-HEDC algorithm.Firstly,via a new defined effective optimal precoding matrix,the problem of optimizing the analog switch precoding matrix is formulated as a sparse representation problem.Thus,the optimal analog switch precoding matrix can be readily obtained by the branch-and-bound method.Then,the digital precoding matrix optimization problem is modeled as a dictionary update problem and solved by the method of optimal direction(MOD).Finally,the diagonal entries of the analog PS precoding matrix are optimized by exhaustive search independently since PS and antenna is one-to-one.Simulation results show that the HEDC structure enjoys low power consumption and satisfactory spectral efficiency.The proposed algorithm presents at least 50%energy efficiency improvement compared with other algorithms when the PS resolution is set as 3-bit. 展开更多

The space-air-ground integrated network(SAGIN)has gained widespread attention from academia and industry in recent years.It is widely applied in many practical fields such as global observation and mapping,intelligent transportation systems,and military missions.As an information carrier of air platforms,the deployment strategy of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is essential for communication systems’performance.In this paper,we discuss a UAV broadcast coverage strategy that can maximize energy efficiency(EE)under terrestrial users’requirements.Due to the non-convexity of this issue,conventional approaches often solve with heuristics algorithms or alternate optimization.To this end,we propose an iterative algorithm by optimizing trajectory and power allocation jointly.Firstly,we discrete the UAV trajectory into several stop points and propose a user grouping strategy based on the traveling salesman problem(TSP)to acquire the number of stop points and the optimization range.Then,we use the Dinkelbach method to dispose of the fractional form and transform the original problem into an iteratively solvable convex optimization problem by variable substitution and Taylor approximation.Numerical results validate our proposed solution and outperform the benchmark schemes in EE and mission completion time. 展开更多

Leveraging energy harvesting abilities in wireless network devices has emerged as an effective way to prolong the lifetime of energy constrained systems.The system gains are usually optimized by designing resource allocation algorithm appropriately.However,few works focus on the interaction that channel’s time-vary characters make the energy transfer inefficiently.To address this,we propose a novel system operation sequence for sensor-cloud system where the Sinks provide SWIPT for sensor nodes opportunistically during downlink phase and collect the data transmitted from sensor nodes in uplink phase.Then,the energy-efficiency maximization problem of the Sinks is presented by considering the time costs and energy consumption of channel detection.It is proved that the formulated problem is an optimal stopping process with optimal stopping rules.An optimal energy-efficiency(OEE)algorithm is designed to obtain the optimal stopping rules for SWIPT.Finally,the simulations are performed based on the OEE algorithm compared with the other two strategies to verify the effectiveness and gains in improving the system efficiency. 展开更多

This paper investigates the resource optimization problem for a multi-cell massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)network in which each base station(BS)is equipped with a large number of antennas and each base station(BS)adapts the number of antennas to the daily load profile(DLP).This paper takes into consideration user location distribution(ULD)variation and evaluates its impact on the energy efficiency of load adaptive massive MIMO system.ULD variation is modeled by dividing the cell into two coverage areas with different user densities:boundary focused(BF)and center focused(CF)ULD.All cells are assumed identical in terms of BS configurations,cell loading,and ULD variation and each BS is modeled as an M/G/m/m state dependent queue that can serve a maximum number of users at the peak load.Together with energy efficiency(EE)we analyzed deployment and spectrum efficiency in our adaptive massive MIMO system by evaluating the impact of cell size,available bandwidth,output power level of the BS,and maximum output power of the power amplifier(PA)at different cell loading.We also analyzed average energy consumption on an hourly basis per BS for the model proposed for data traffic in Europe and also the model proposed for business,residential,street,and highway areas. 展开更多

Efficient Air Conditioning (A/C) system is the key to reducing energy consumption in building operation. In order to decrease the energy consumption in an A/C system, a method to calculate the optimal tube row number of a direct expansion (DX) cooling coil for minimizing the entropy generation in the DX cooling which functioned as evaporator in the A/C system was developed. The optimal tube row numbers were determined based on the entropy generation minimization (EGM) approach. Parametric studies were conducted to demonstrate the application of the analytical calculation method. Optimal tube row number for different air mass flow rates, inlet air temperatures and sensible cooling loads were investigated. It was found that the optimal tube row number of a DX cooling coil was in the range of 5 - 9 under normal operating conditions. The optimal tube row number was less when the mass flow rate and inlet air temperature were increased. The tube row number increased when the sensible cooling load was increased. The exergy loss when using a non-optimal and optimal tube row numbers was compared to show the advantage of using the optimal tube row number. The decrease of exery loss ranged from around 24% to 70%. Therefore the new analytical method developed in this paper offers a good practice guide for the design of DX cooling coils for energy conservation. 展开更多

This re-sults in a tradeoff between performance (e.g., throughput, delay, jitter, and packet-loss-rate) and energy con-sumption. In this paper, the problem of energy-efficient MAC protocols in WSNs is modeled as a game-theoretic constraint optimization with multiple objectives. After introducing incompletely cooperative game theory, based on the estimated game state (e.g., the number of competing nodes), each node independ-ently implements the optimal equilibrium strategy under the given constraints (e.g., the used energy and QoS requirements). Moreover, a simplified game-theoretic constraint optimization scheme (G-ConOpt) is pre-sented in this paper, which is easy to be implemented in current WSNs. Simulation results show that G-ConOpt can increase system performance while still maintaining reasonable energy consumption. 展开更多

Energy efficiency is closely related to the evolution of biological systems and is important to their information processing. In this work, we calculate the excitation probability of a simple model of a bistable biological unit in response to pulsatile inputs, and its spontaneous excitation rate due to noise perturbation. Then we analytically calculate the mutual information, energy cost, and energy efficiency of an array of these bistable units. We find that the optimal number of units could maximize this array's energy efficiency in encoding pulse inputs, which depends on the fixed energy cost. We conclude that demand for energy efficiency in biological systems may strongly influence the size of these systems under the pressure of natural selection. 展开更多

This paper proposed an initiative optimization operation strategy and multi-objective energy management method for combined cooling heating and power U+0028 CCHP U+0029 with storage systems. Initially, the initiative optimization operation strategy of CCHP system in the cooling season, the heating season and the transition season was formulated. The energy management of CCHP system was optimized by the multi-objective optimization model with maximum daily energy efficiency, minimum daily carbon emissions and minimum daily operation cost based on the proposed initiative optimization operation strategy. Furthermore, the pareto optimal solution set was solved by using the niche particle swarm multi-objective optimization algorithm. Ultimately, the most satisfactory energy management scheme was obtained by using the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution U+0028 TOPSIS U+0029 method. A case study of CCHP system used in a hospital in the north of China validated the effectiveness of this method. The results showed that the satisfactory energy management scheme of CCHP system was obtained based on this initiative optimization operation strategy and multi-objective energy management method. The CCHP system has achieved better energy efficiency, environmental protection and economic benefits. © 2014 Chinese Association of Automation. 展开更多

The Backscatter communication has gained widespread attention from academia and industry in recent years. In this paper, A method of resource allocation and trajectory optimization is proposed for UAV-assisted backscatter communication based on user trajectory. This paper will establish an optimization problem of jointly optimizing the UAV trajectories, UAV transmission power and BD scheduling based on the large-scale channel state signals estimated in advance of the known user trajectories, taking into account the constraints of BD data and working energy consumption, to maximize the energy efficiency of the system. The problem is a non-convex optimization problem in fractional form, and there is nonlinear coupling between optimization variables.An iterative algorithm is proposed based on Dinkelbach algorithm, block coordinate descent method and continuous convex optimization technology. First, the objective function is converted into a non-fractional programming problem based on Dinkelbach method,and then the block coordinate descent method is used to decompose the original complex problem into three independent sub-problems. Finally, the successive convex approximation method is used to solve the trajectory optimization sub-problem. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme and algorithm have obvious energy efficiency gains compared with the comparison scheme. 展开更多

We consider the problem of nearly optimal energy efficiency in massive(Multiinput Multi-output) MIMO systems. Considering the correlated channel in practice, we derive the ergodic expression with zero-forcing precoding and analyze the simplified antennas selection method. Aiming at optimizing the energy efficiency, the closed form expressions of the nearly optimal number of transmit antennas and transmit power are given under the circuit consumption model. The joint solution of the number of transmit antennas and transmit power was replaced to only solve transmit power. Based on the expression only related with transmit power, we give an energy efficiency optimization algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve nearly optimal energy efficiency with fast convergence speed. 展开更多

To improve the energy efficiency of a direct expansion air conditioning(DX A/C) system while guaranteeing occupancy comfort, a hierarchical controller for a DX A/C system with uncertain parameters is proposed. The control strategy consists of an open loop optimization controller and a closed-loop guaranteed cost periodically intermittent-switch controller(GCPISC). The error dynamics system of the closed-loop control is modelled based on the GCPISC principle. The difference,compared to the previous DX A/C system control methods, is that the controller designed in this paper performs control at discrete times. For the ease of designing the controller, a series of matrix inequalities are derived to be the sufficient conditions of the lower-layer closed-loop GCPISC controller. In this way, the DX A/C system output is derived to follow the optimal references obtained through the upper-layer open loop controller in exponential time, and the energy efficiency of the system is improved. Moreover, a static optimization problem is addressed for obtaining an optimal GCPISC law to ensure a minimum upper bound on the DX A/C system performance considering energy efficiency and output tracking error. The advantages of the designed hierarchical controller for a DX A/C system with uncertain parameters are demonstrated through some simulation results. 展开更多

This paper presents important fundamentals associated with water and energy efficiency and highlights the importance of using renewable energy sources. A model of multi-criteria optimization for energy efficiency based on water and environmental management policies, including the preservation of water resources and the control of water pressure and energy consumption through a hybrid energy solution, was developed and applied to a water supply system. The methodology developed includes three solutions: (1) the use of a water turbine in pipe systems where pressures are higher than necessary and pressure-reducing valves are installed, (2) the optimization of pumping operation according to the electricity tariff and water demand, and (3) the use of other renewable energy sources, including a wind turbine, to supply energy to the pumping station, with the remaining energy being sold to the national electric grid. The use of an integrated solution (water and energy-) proves to be a valuable input for creating benefits from available hydro energy in the water supply system in order to produce clean power, and the use of a wind source allows for the reduction of energy consumption in pumping stations, as well as of the CO2 emission to the atmosphere. 展开更多

With this target, the optimization design of a motor is a complex nonlinear problem with constraints. To solve the problem, the authors introduce a united random algorithm. At first, the problem is divided into two parts, the optimal rotor slots and the optimization of other dimensions. Before optimizing the rotor slots with genetic algorithm ( GA), the second part is solved with TABU algorithm to simplify the problem. With the rapid development of wireless technologies,wireless access networks have entered their Fifth-Generation(5G)system phase.The heterogeneous and complex nature of a 5G system,with its numerous technological scenarios,poses significant challenges to wireless resource management,making radio resource optimization an important aspect of Device-to-Device(D2D)communication in such systems.Cellular D2D communication can improve spectrum efficiency,increase system capacity,and reduce base station communication burdens by sharing authorized cell resources;however,can also cause serious interference.Therefore,research focusing on reducing this interference by optimizing the configuration of shared cellular resources has also grown in importance.This paper proposes a novel algorithm to address the problems of co-channel interference and energy efficiency optimization in a long-term evolution network.The proposed algorithm uses the fuzzy clustering method,which employs minimum outage probability to divide D2D users into several groups in order to improve system throughput and reduce interference between users.An efficient power control algorithm based on game theory is also proposed to optimize user transmission power within each group and thereby improve user energy efficiency.Simulation results show that these proposed algorithms can effectively improve system throughput,reduce co-channel interference,and enhance energy efficiency. 展开更多

This paper analyzes the main problems of Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Co.,Ltd.,such as decentralized steam system layout,many types of fuels,obvious increase in fuel cost,low operation efficiency of turbine and boiler and high self consumption loss,and puts forward and implements optimization and improvement measures such as pressure raising transformation of natural gas system,adjustment of energy consumption structure,reduction of energy consumption cost,improvement of steam production quality and equipment efficiency.The results showed that compared with the fuel consumption in 2018,the consumption of coal coke was reduced by 550000 t,the consumption of natural gas was increased by 170000 t,and the total consumption of fuel gas and fuel oil was increased by 50000 t,equivalent to 246000 t of standard coal;the purchased electricity was increased by about 5×10^(8) kW·h.Green power trading and 14.76 MW distributed photovoltaic projects were carried out.According to the calculation of 1400-1600 h annual power generation in class II photovoltaic areas and the emission factor of North China regional power grid baseline,the annual emission reduction was about 55000 t CO_(2) in 2021.After the above transformation,the goal of zero-coking is achieved;the steam consumption of units is reduced by 21.5%,the steam production of boilers is reduced by 24.9%,and the annual emission reduction is about 760000 t CO_(2),which has achieved good results. 展开更多

Purpose–Under the dual pressure of resources and environment,many countries have focused on the role of railways in promoting low-carbon development of integrated transportation and of even the whole society.This paper aims to provide a comprehensive study on methods to improve railway energy efficiency in other national railways and achievements made by China’s railways in the past practice,and then to propose ways in which in the future China’s railways could rationally select the path of improving energy efficiency regarding the needs of the nation’s ever-shifting development and carry out the re-engineering for mechanism innovation in energy conservation and emission reduction process.Design/methodology/approach–This paper first studies other national railways that have tried to promote the improvement of railway energy efficiency by the ways of technology,management and structural reconstruction to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.Among them,the effect of structural energy conservation and emission reduction has become more prominent.It has become the main energy conservation and emission reduction measure adopted by foreign railway sectors.The practice of energy conservation and emission reduction of railways in various countries has tended to shift from a technical level to a structural one.Findings–Key aspects in improving energy efficiency include re-optimization of energy structure,reinnovation of energy-saving technologies and optimization of transportation organization.Path selection includes continuing to promote electrified railway construction,increasing the use of new and renewable energy sources,and promoting the reform of railway transportation organizations.Originality/value–This paper provides further challenges and research directions in the proposed area and has referential value for the methodologies,approaches for practice in a Chinese context.To achieve the expected goals,relevant supporting policies and measures need to be formulated,including actively guiding integrated transportation toward railway-oriented development,promoting innovation in energy-saving and emission reduction mechanisms and strengthening policy incentives,focusing on improving the energy efficiency of railways through market behavior.At the same time,it is necessary to pay attention to new phenomena in the railway industry for track and analysis. 展开更多

The mining industry consumes an enormous amount of energy globally,the main part of which is conservable.Diesel is a key source of energy in mining operations,and mine locomotives have significant diesel consumption.Train speed has been recognized as the primary parameter affecting locomotive fuel consumption.In this study,an artificial intelligence(AI)look-forward control is developed as an online method for energy-efficiency improvement in mine-railway operation.An AI controller will modify the desired train-speed profile by accounting for the grade resistance and speed limits of the route ahead.Travel-time increment is applied as an improvement constraint.Recent models for mine-train-movement simulation have estimated locomotive fuel burn using an indirect index.An AI-developed algorithm for mine-train-movement simulation can correctly predict locomotive diesel consumption based on the considered values of the transfer parameters in this paper.This algorithm finds the mine-locomotive subsystems,and satisfies the practical diesel-consumption data specified in the locomotive’s manufacturer catalog.The model developed in this study has two main sections designed to estimate locomotive fuel consumption in different situations by using an artificial neural network(ANN),and an optimization section that applies a genetic algorithm(GA)to optimize train speed for the purpose of minimizing locomotive diesel consumption.The AI model proposed in this paper is learned and validated using real datasets collected from a mine-railway route in Western Australia.The simulation of a mine train with a commonly used locomotive in Australia GeneralMotors SD40-2(GM SD40-2)on a local railway track illustrates a significant reduction in diesel consumption along with a satisfactory travel-time increment.The simulation results also demonstrate that the AI look-forward controller has faster calculations than control systems based that use dynamic programming. 展开更多
