The single event effect of a silicon–germanium heterojunction bipolar transistor(SiGe HBT) was thoroughly investigated. By considering the worst bias condition, the sensitive area of the proposed device was scanned with a pulsed laser.With variation of the collector bias and pulsed laser incident energy, the single event transient of the SiGe HBT was studied.Moreover, the single event transient produced by laser irradiation at a wavelength of 532 nm was more pronounced than at a wavelength of 1064 nm. Finally, the impact of the equivalent linear energy transfer of the 1064 nm pulsed laser on the single event transient was qualitatively examined by performing technology computer-aided design simulations, and a good consistency between the experimental data and the simulated outcomes was attained. 展开更多

An Equivalent-Resistance based Analysis Method (ERAM) was proposed, which can convert the Inductor-Disconnected Discharge (IDD) behavior of the Intrinsically Safe Buck Converter (ISBC) into that of an Equivalent Simple-Inductive-Circuit (ESIC). According to the inductor disconnected equivalent circuit corresponding to the most dan- gerous operating case of the converter,the arc discharge time and the variation of out- put-voltage during the IDD were deduced based on the simple current linear attenuation model.According to the energy equivalence,the equivalent inductor-current of the ESIC was obtained.It is pointed out that although the inductor-current of the Buck converter is much lower than that of the published ignition curve,ignition still occurs and the ignition ability is strengthened with increase of the output capacitance.The proposed analyzing method is verified by the experiment results on IEC standard spark ignition apparatus. 展开更多

Recently Zheng & Hwang established a series of independence theorems concerning with planar effective elastic properties. It is manifested that the estimation of the effective elastic properties of microcracked solids through the generalized self-consistent method (GSCM) contradicts with these independence theorems. In this paper it is shown that such contradiction is actually caused by the approximate algorithm adopted, while the exact solution of GSCM is consistent with these rigorously established independence theorems. Since only an approximate algorithm in GCSM is available in dealing with problems involving non-circular inclusions or holes, an intrinsic GSCM is proposed, which can be performed based on an approximate algorithm and the corresponding estimations are consistent with the independence theorems. 展开更多

In view of the recent technological development, the pursuit of safehigh-precision structural designs has been the goal of most structural designers. To bridge the gapbetween the construction theories and the actual construction techniques, safety factors are adoptedfor designing the strength loading of structural members. If safety factors are too conservative,the extra building materials necessary will result in high construction cost. Thus, there has been atendency in the construction field to derive a precise buckling load analysis model of member inorder to establish accurate safety factors. A numerical analysis model, using modal analysis toacquire the dynamic function calculated by dynamic parameter to get the buckling load of member, isproposed in this paper. The fixed and simple supports around the circular plate are analyzed by thisproposed method. And then, the Monte Carlo method and the normal distribution method are used forrandom sampling and measuring errors of numerical simulation respectively. The analysis resultsindicated that this proposed method only needs to apply modal parameters of 7 X 7 test points toobtain a theoretical value of buckling load. Moreover, the analysis method of inequality-distanttest points produces better analysis results than the other methods. 展开更多

Breaking down the entire structure of a material implies severing all the bonds between its atoms either by applying work or by heat transfer. Because bond-breaking is indifferent to either means, there is a kind of equivalence between heat energy and strain energy. Based on this equivalence, we assume the existence of a constant maximum storage of energy that includes both the strain energy and the corresponding equivalent heat energy. A temperaturedependent fracture strength model is then developed for ultrahigh temperature ceramics (UHTCs). Model predictions for UHTCs, HfB2, TiC and ZrB2, are presented and compared with the experimental results. These predictions are found to be largely consistent with experimental results. 展开更多

A grating surface can drive the liquid crystal molecules to orientate along the direction parallel or vertical to the projected plane of the grating surface. The nematic liquid crystal (NLC) cell manufactured with two pre-treated grating surface substrates may realize the vertical display, parallel display and twist display. In this paper, the threshold property of this NLC cell is investigated systematically. With the Frank elastic theory and the equivalent anchoring energy formula of grating surface substrate, the analytic expressions of the threshold voltage related to three displays are obtained, which are dependent on their geometrical parameters such as amplitude ~ and pitch A of the grating surface substrate. For a certain anchoring strength, the threshold voltage increases or decreases with the increase of the value δ/λ of the different displays. 展开更多

The anchoring properties of substrate with a grating surface are investigated analytically. The alignment of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in a grating surface originates from two mechanisms, thus the anchoring energy consists of two parts. One originates from the interaction potential between NLC molecules and the molecules on the substrate surface, and the other stems from the increased elastic strain energy. Based on the two mechanisms, the expression of anchoring energy per unit area of a projected plane of this grating surface is deduced and called the equivalent anchoring energy formula. Both the strength and the easy direction of equivalent anchoring energy are a function of the geometrical parameters (amplitude and pitch) of a grating surface. By using this formula, the grating surface can be replaced by its projected plane and its anchoring properties can be described by the equivalent anchoring energy formula. 展开更多

Based on these two homogenization conditions, an eigenelement method is presented, which is characteristic of structure-preserving property. Although there are methods for testing the stress-strain relation and strength,which are the most fundamental and important properties of metallic materials,their application to small-volume materials and tube components is lim-ited.In this study,based on energy density equivalence,a new dimensionless elastoplastic load-displacement model for compressed metal rings with isotropy and constitutive power law is proposed to describe the relations among the geometric dimensions,Hollomon law parameters,load,and displacement.Furthermore,a novel test method was developed to determine the elastic modulus,stress-strain relation,yield and tensile strength via ring compression test.The universality and accuracy of the method were verified within a wide range of imaginary materials using finite element analysis(FEA),and the results show that the stress-strain curves obtained by this method are consistent with those inputted in the FEA program.Additionally,a series of ring compression tests were performed for seven metallic materials.It was found that the stress-strain curves and mechanical properties predicted by the method agreed with the uniaxial tensile results.With its low material consumption,the ring compression test has the potential to be as an alternative to traditional tensile test when direct tension method is limited. 展开更多

A multi-scale damage model of concrete is proposed based on the concept of energy equivalent strain for generic two-or three-dimensional applications.Continuum damage mechanics serves as the framework to describe the basic damage variables,namely the tensile and compressive damage.The homogenized Helmholtz free energy is introduced as the bridge to link the micro-cell and macroscopic material.The crack propagation in micro-cells is modeled,and the Helmholtz free energy in the cracked micro-structure is calculated and employed to extract the damage evolution functions in the macroscopic material.Based on the damage energy release rates and damage consistent condition,the energy equivalent strain is used to expand the uniaxial damage model to the multi-dimensional damage model.Agreements with existing experimental data that include uniaxial tensile and compressive tests,biaxial compression and biaxial peak stress envelop demonstrate the capacity of the multi-scale damage model in reproducing the typical nonlinear performances of concrete specimens.The simulation of precast laminated concrete slab further demonstrates its application to concrete structures. 展开更多

The first principal stress plays a key role in ductile fracture processes.Investigation of the distribution and evolution of the first principal stress at the crack tip is essential for exploring elastoplastic fracture behaviors.A semi-analytical model was developed in this study to determine the maximal first principal stress at the mode I crack tip with 3D constraints for materials following the Ramberg-Osgood law.The model,based on energy density equivalence and dimensional analysis,was validated through finite element analysis(FEA)of various materials and geometric dimensions of specimens with mode I cracks,under over 100 different types of working conditions.The dimensionless curves of maximal first principal stress versus load,as predicted by the model,agreed well with the FEA results,demonstrating the accuracy and applicability of the model.This research can provide a basis for future theoretical predictions of crack initiation and propagation. 展开更多

During the last few years,active personal dosimeters have been developed and have replaced passive personal dosimeters in some external monitoring systems,frequently using silicon diode detectors.Incident photons interact with the constituents of the diode detector and produce electrons.These photon-induced electrons deposit energy in the detector's sensitive region and contribute to the response of diode detectors.To achieve an appropriate photon dosimetry response,the detectors are usually covered by a metallic layer with an optimum thickness.The metallic cover acts as an energy compensating shield.In this paper,a software process is performed for energy compensation.Selective data sampling based on pulse height is used to determine the photon dose equivalent.This method is applied to improve the energy response in photon dosimetry.The detector design is optimized for the response function and determination of the photon dose equivalent.Photon personal dose equivalent is determined in the energy range of 0.3-6 MeV.The error values of the calculated data for this wide energy range and measured data for ^133Ba,^137Cs,^60Co and ^241Am-Be sources respectively are up to 20%and 15%.Fairly good agreement is seen between simulation and dose values obtained from our process and specifications from several photon sources. 展开更多

Space truss structures are essential components for space-based remote sensing loads with high spatial and temporal resolutions.To achieve high-precision vibration control,an accurate and efficient dynamics model is essential.In addition to the current equivalent beam model(EBM)based on the classical continuum theory,an improved equivalent beam model(IEBM)is proposed that considers the impact of the distinction between trusses and beams on torsional and shear deformations,as well as the impact of shear deformation on flexural rigidity.According to the displacement expressions of spatial beams,torsional,shear,and bending correction coefficients are introduced to derive expressions of strain energy and kinetic energy.The energy equivalence principle is then utilized to calculate the elasticity and inertia matrices,and dynamics equations are established using the finite element method.Subsequently,an IEBM is constructed by employing the particle swarm optimization approach to determine the correction coefficients with the truss natural frequency as the optimization target.The natural vibration characteristics of the structure are estimated for various material properties.Compared with the full-scale finite element model,the EBM reaches a maximum error of 80%for a low modulus of elasticity,while the maximum error of the IEBM is less than 2%for any given parameters,indicating its superior accuracy to the EBM. 展开更多

Mixed-mode I-II crack-based fatigue crack propagation(FCPⅠ-Ⅱ)usually occurs in engineering structures;however,no theoretical formula or effective compliance test methods have been established for FCPI-IIto date.For mixed-mode I-II flawed components,based on the principle of mean-value energy equivalence,we propose a theoretical method to describe the relationship between material elastic parameters,geometrical dimensions,load(or displacement),and energy.Based on the maximum circumferential stress criterion,we propose a uniform compliance model for compact tensile shear(CTS)specimens with horizontal cracks deflecting and propagating(flat-folding propagation)under different loading angles,geometries,and materials.Along with an innovative design of the fixture of CTS specimens used for FCPI-IItests,we develop a new compliancebased testing method for FCPⅠ-Ⅱ.For the 30Cr2Ni4MoV rotor steel,the FCP rates of modeⅠ,modeⅡ,and mixed-modeⅠ-Ⅱcracks were obtained via FCP tests using compact tension,Arcan,and CTS specimens,respectively.The obtained da/d N versusΔJ curves of the FCP rates are close.The loading angleαand dimensionless initial crack length a0/W demonstrated negligible effects on the FCP rates.Hence,the FCP rates of mode I crack can be used to predict the residual life of structural crack propagation. 展开更多

In this work,the small lateral-compression testing based on energy equivalent(SLTEE)method is put forward to determine the stress-strain curves of materials utilizing small disk specimens.Numerical simulations of small lateral-compression testing with imaginary materials are conducted to examine the validity of the SLT-EE method.The results demonstrate that the stress-strain curves determined by the SLT-EE method coincide with the curves input by finite element analysis.In order to predict the stress-strain curves of materials with different dimensions,a modified SLT-EE method is successfully proposed by introducing a correction factor/.Finally,the small disk compression experiments of Q345B,304,7075 and 6061 are performed.The stress-strain curves of the four materials predicted by the SLT-EE method show agreement with the tension results.Furthermore,the mechanical properties of in-service hollow components are also determined utilizing the same method successfully. 展开更多
