A Case Study on the Effectiveness of Pre-Class Activities in Higher Vocational English Classes: Taking Pingliang Vocational and Technical College as an Example

Based on Bloom’s“effective teaching theory,”this paper proposes pre-class activities to improve students’enthusiasm and autonomy in English learning.These include sentence construction,situational dubbing,famous quotes,English songs,English games,Chinese stories,regional cultures,and theme debates,which combine life,interest,and inspiration as the main characteristics.The activities can enhance the sense of participation and achievement of all students to achieve the purpose of effective teaching.

Humanistic Education in College English Classes:Problems and Solutions

The humanistic quality is one of the most important qualities for students to acquire in humanistic education.However,the limited class time for tightly scheduled teaching tasks fails to guarantee a satisfying result for humanistic education.In this paper,three strategies are proposed as the way out of this dilemma.The first,is to equip the College English teachers with rich professional and humanistic knowledge.The second is to change the traditional College English Teaching aim which is not suitable as a guide for current teaching.And the last is to require all the English teachers to explore and clarify the humanistic connotation in the texts which helps shape students’view of the world and value of the life.

Utilizing Wen Juanxing in College English Classes in China

This paper aims to explore the benefits of Technology-Enhanced Learning(TEL)to better engage undergraduate students in college English classes in China.By experimenting with Wen Juanxing,an online questionnaire platform,it has been found that through the employment of“Classroom Response Systems”(hereafter CRS)such as Wen Juanxing(hereaftter WJX),college students’classroom participation and interaction can be significantly increased.Their learning outcome and efficiency can also be greatly improved.

Scaffolding in Teacher-Student Interaction:A Case Study in Two Oral English Classes in China

This paper reports a case study designed to understand classroom interactional processes in a Chinese university. The case study focuses on scaffolding in teacher-student interaction as well as the process of shifting the responsibility from the teacher to student. Our first aim was to determine how teacher-student interactions in two oral English classes were distributed, and our second aim was to determine how the two teachers perceive their roles in teacher-student interaction and how their perceptive differences were reflected in teacher-student interaction in their oral English classes. The data were collected through videotaping and an interview. Results show that distribution patterns of teacher-student interactions were mainly different in the two oral English classes, and the role perception differences of the two teachers were partly reflected in their teacher-student interaction. The study suggests that the process of shifting the responsibility from teacher to student is a complex process which demands great efforts from teachers as well as willingness from students.

ON STUDENTS'PARTICIPATION IN ENGLISH CLASSES

The first possible difficulty an English teacher may encounter in his or her endeavor to make Eng-lish class more communicative may be students’ reluctance to participate.But there are reasonsbehind this seeming reluctance.Based on a recent survey,the paper analyzes students’ participa-tion psychology and both the subjective and objective factors,which may affect students’ activeparticipation in class.The writer of the paper believes that getting students started is the initialstep towards active learning and fruitful teaching.It is proposed that efforts made to get studentsinvolved should focus not only on forms of activities but also on their contents,on skill integra-tion and on establishing cooperative relationships between teacher and students and among stu-dents.

A Study on Time Management of College English Class

An Empirical Study on the 1 ＋ 1 Model in College English Listening and Speaking Class

Improving college students＇ listening and speaking ability is a very important part of college English teaching Based on the foreign and domestic studies on how to improve students＇ listening and speaking ability, this paper explores the 1 ＋ 1 model in listening and speaking class, which is to divide the listening and speaking class into two parts--small speaking class combined with students＇ online autonomous learning. Through one-year experiment and study on two classes, although there is no significant difference between the performances of these classes, this study has shed some light on how to vary the teaching methods, how to improve the class efficiency, students＇ autonomy in leaming, and how to build new assessment system. Using Internet to Promote Students＇ English Learning Autonomy

In view of the current situation of College English Teaching in many universities in China, that is, due to limited or lack of language laboratory, many universities take the form of large-size class in organizing English teaching, the result is that teachers dominate the English classroom, and students are in a passive input state, without much or enough learning autonomy.
