Interpreting activity is considered a high-anxiety activity due to its immediacy, multitasking, complexity of cognitive processing, and uncertainty of cognitive processing. Research has shown that interpreting anxiety, as the biggest emotional obstacle in the interpreting process, is the main emotional factor that leads to individual differences in interpreting. Students often claim to have fear or anxiety behaviors in interpreting exams, interpreting competitions, and interpreting classes. However, the research on interpreting teaching attaches importance to the cultivation of language knowledge, cultural knowledge, and interpreting skills, and does not pay enough attention to emotional factors such as motivation and anxiety in interpreting learning, which makes it difficult for the cultivated interpreters to meet the requirements of professional practice. In recent years, virtual reality technology (VR) has been gradually applied in the field of foreign language and interpreting teaching for creating a real, interactive and experiential language learning environment. Situated Learning Theory stresses that the fundamental mechanism for learning to take place is for individuals to participate in the real context in which knowledge is generated, and to realize the construction of knowledge through the interaction with the community of practice and the environment. Virtual reality technology can satisfy the needs of language learners for real contexts by providing learners with immersive, imaginative and interactive scenario simulations, and has a certain positive effect on alleviating learning anxiety. Therefore, relying on the virtual simulation course “United Nations Kubuqi International Desert Ecological Science and Technology Innovation International Volunteer Language Service Practical Training System”, this paper adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses to investigate the interpretation anxiety level of the interpreter trainees and the factors affecting them in the VR situation to help them discover effective responses to interpreter anxiety. 展开更多

The present study aimed to investigate senior high school students to explore the relationships among their English achievement goal orientations,learning anxiety,and autonomous learning behavior.748 first-year senior high school students in Guizhou Province,China were selected as participants.A comprehensive questionnaire measuring the above variables was designed to collect the data.The Structural Equation Modeling(SEM)was used to analyze the data.The results showed that the model had good fit to the sample.The students’mastery goals and performance-approach goals positively contributed to their autonomous learning behavior,whereas their performance-avoidance goals were negatively associated with their autonomous learning behavior.The students’mastery goals effectively reduced their learning anxiety,but their performance-approach goals and performance-avoidance goals engendered learning anxiety.The students’learning anxiety and their autonomous learning behavior were negatively correlated. 展开更多

The study is to explore the test anxiety of three university English teachers in their collaborative learning community when they do their visiting scholar program.The research questions are about the representations of test anxiety of the college English teacher collaborative learning community as visiting scholars,and the interaction between anxiety and their collaborative learning.The main data collection includes deep interview,field observation,online chatting,etc.The research finds that at the three stages of their learning,the participant shows various representations of test anxiety from cognitive,affective and behavioral perspectives,and collaborative learning community facilitates the participant have better execution in learning,more pressure released and much cognitive enhancement achieved.In contrast,lack of collaborative learning environment in her working university and the specific anxiety for marriage in female participant are two additional findings in the study,which may prove the positive effect of collaborative learning on anxiety from another point of view. 展开更多

Chinese students have improved their English reading and writing these years, but they are relatively poor in listening and speaking. The author, based on the empirical study, made an investigation on Senior Three students in Leshan city. The statistics from the questionnaire indicate the problem of "Mute-crux" in English teaching and learning. This paper explores the reasons that cause the problem: teachers' use of the traditional ways, just emphasizing the transmission of English knowledge, but ignoring the meaningful communication with students; exercise-based and exam-oriented teaching, which cause students' rote-learning. This study is concerned with the possible relationship between language anxiety and language learning strategies in reading process among the students of English as a foreign language (EFL). Participants consist of a volunteer pool of 120 sophomore non-English majors. Versions of previously published measurement scales, the Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scales (FLRAS) and the Survey of the Reading Strategies (SOR), were administered to the subjects as measures of foreign language anxiety and foreign language learning strategy preferences. Based on the collected data, the statistics descriptions were performed to investigate the students' anxiety state and strategy use level. The analyses suggest that most of students have the anxiety level above the mean, and the anxiety regarding the reading confidence is mainly responsible for the students' reading anxiety, and meanwhile, students use more cognitive strategies in their reading and the level of their language learning strategies are relatively low. Results indicate no significant differences between males and females on their anxiety level, as well as their strategy use. Furthermore, a Pearson correlation analysis reveals that, for the most learners, the anxiety state do hinder them from choosing effective strategies in their reading. The study explores the relationship between the reading anxiety and the reading strategy, demonstrates the effects of the anxiety reduction training on the strategy use, provides the implications for foreign language teachers that in reading comprehension teaching they should focus more on students' anxiety, especially their reading confidence anxiety, and encourage them more. 展开更多

Referring to the questionnaire survey and literature materials, this paper describes the current situation of college students' insufficient autonomous English learning ability and thefactors that influence this ability; it also suggests feasible suggestions under the network environment. Students (N= 178) from different grades, majors, universities and areas responded to a questionnaire survey, and the collected data were analyzed. The results indicate that complex external environment and insufficient internal subject cognition influence college students' autonomous English learning ability. Finally, this paper suggests that a good network environment is necessary for autonomous learners to enhance insufficient autonomous English learning ability and interaction, continuous thinking and cultural introduction are also indispensable to develop this ability. 展开更多
