On Promoting Listening Comprehension of English Majors through Original English Movies

In recent years,with the reform of College English Teaching in China,listening has occupied a great proportion of both the examination content and classroom teaching.When everyone is seeking a high-efficiency,fast teaching method,the use of English original film teaching methods arises spontaneously.Its authentic speaking style,real language environment and rich cultural connotation not only improve the listening comprehension ability of English majors,but also enable students to intuitively understand the culture of Western countries.In this study,by referring to a large number of books and documents,this paper puts forward corresponding strategies for various problems arising from the use of English original film teaching in colleges and universities.English original film teaching can not only create a better learning environment,and stimulate students’interest in learning,but also enable students to actively participate in class discussions.

Effects of Online English Movie Reviews on Improving Students' Writing

This study aims to study the effectiveness of online English movie reviews for improving university students’English writing in China.English movie reviews can be profitably undertaken to improve university students’writing ability by reading English movie reviews online,discussing topics related to English movie reviews and writing English movie reviews collaboratively.University students have easy access to English movie reviews massively available on the Internet,which renders it possible and feasible for English teachers to use them to improve students’English writing.Online English movie reviews provide students with enough input of model texts,hence they can acquire some appropriate expressions before writing within a short period of time.In addition,discussion on English movie reviews through Emails and QQ platform can activate students’critical thinking to stimulate their original ideas for English movie review writing.Writing English movie reviews collaboratively with the help of Internet can develop students’confidence in writing because of peer feedback and less pressure.

The Aesthetic Taste of The Subtitle Translation in English Movies

Nowadays foreign movies have been introduced in China overwhelmingly. As a worldwide and popularized art form,movie has rapidly grown to be a predominant carrier of popular culture, playing an important role in the communication of multinational cultures. The main audiences of this inspiring art form are Chinese youths who are extremely passionate for new things,so it attaches great importance to them to build an active and optimistic mentality of watching movies. With the boom of movie industry, the subtitle translation in English movies has been lifted on a comparatively high position.

The Application of Literal Translation in Movie English——A Case Study of Downton Abbey

In recent years, a large number of overseas TV dramas appear in domestic screens. Downton Abbey, as the most popular English drama in the recent ten years, manifests the numerous aspects of the world of English upper nobles and their servants under the severe hierarchy. It is praised by the whole world. This thesis attempts to analyze the application of literal translation in Downton Abbey from the aspect of formal equivalence and meaning equivalence so as to explore the suitability and effectiveness of literal translation and find out if a literal translation can be applied to the English film's translation. The thesis first reviews the research status of movie English and points out the significance of learning it from the side of literal translation.And it gives literary translation and general introduction to key concepts that can be used in later analysis. Then, it analyzes the application of literal translation in subtitle translation of Downton Abbey from formal equivalence and meaning equivalence in order to find out the usability and validity of literal translation in movie English. Finally, it sums up the findings and limitations of the thesis.

Application of Movie-based App in Left-behind Children’s EFLL earning

China has been witnessing an immense number of left-behind children due to annual parental rural-to-urban immi-grant working.As a special educational group,the status quo of left-behind children’s English as a foreign language(EFL)learning is not very optimistic.Combiningmobile--assistedlanguage learning(MALL)with traditional foreign language instruction,classroom teaching with off--class mobile learning,Englishmovie--basedApp with functions of bilingual caption setting,unknown words con-sulting,consolidation drills and English proficiency test can be employed to promote left-behind children's EFL learning.

A novel movies recommendation algorithm based on reinforcement learning with DDPG policy

Purpose-English original movies played an important role in English learning and communication.In order to find the required movies for us from a large number of English original movies and reviews,this paper proposed an improved deep reinforcement learning algorithm for the recommendation of movies.In fact,although the conventional movies recommendation algorithms have solved the problem of information overload,they still have their limitations in the case of cold start-up and sparse data.Design/methodology/approach-To solve the aforementioned problems of conventional movies recommendation algorithms,this paper proposed a recommendation algorithm based on the theory of deep reinforcement learning,which uses the deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG)algorithm to solve the cold starting and sparse data problems and uses Item2vec to transform discrete action space into a continuous one.Meanwhile,a reward function combining with cosine distance and Euclidean distance is proposed to ensure that the neural network does not converge to local optimum prematurely.Findings-In order to verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed algorithm,the state of the art and the proposed algorithm are compared in indexes of RMSE,recall rate and accuracy based on the MovieLens English original movie data set for the experiments.Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm is superior to the conventional algorithm in various indicators.Originality/value-Applying the proposed algorithm to recommend English original movies,DDPG policy produces better recommendation results and alleviates the impact of cold start and sparse data.
