Chinese nursing postgraduates'views on implementing outcome-oriented academic English course:a descriptive study

Background:According to previous studies on professional English course teaching,the evaluation of course teaching was positive,but the vast majorities focus on medical English literature reading,professional English vocabulary,and professional English translation.As an alternative,the course design based on academic learning needs under the outcome-oriented education/model emphasizes the improvement of students'comprehensive ability in oral expression,literature reading,writing,and academic communication.Objectives:The objective of this study was to analyze nursing postgraduates'opinions on learning the outcome-oriented academic English course.Methods:This is a cross-sectional descriptive study.A total of 150 first-year nursing postgraduates enrolled in the“Academic Professional English for Nursing Postgraduates”course.After completing the course learning,students scanned QR codes generated by the online questionnaire and completed it anonymously within 48 h.Results:The students who participated in this course strongly believed that it“helped them strengthen their English speakability”(4.8 points),“made them more confident to participate in international academic conferences and exchanges in the future”(4.8 points),and“helped them apply English more in the nursing professional field in the future”(4.7 points).Conclusions:The implementation of outcome-oriented course teaching helps students to understand the research of foreign scholars and effectively express their own research content with English as a tool.It motivates them to continuously use English for professional and academic communication.

A Study on English Teaching for Postgraduates Under the Background of＂the Silk Road Culture＂

When visiting Kazakhstan,President Xi Jinping proposed the strategic project to build the＂ Silk Road economic zone＂ . Under this background,the study of postgraduate students＇ English teaching is very important.This paper analyzes the historical status of the Silk Road,the significance of culture teaching of Silk Road countries,presents the study of the main elements and its implementation approaches of the Silk Road culture teaching in postgraduate students＇ English class,with the purpose of making more educators to participate in the＂ Silk Road economic zone＂ construction.

The Using Condition of Interactive Reading Strategy in Reading Scientific and Technological English Literature of Postgraduates of Engineering

In the reading process and after reading of the scientific and technological English literature for postgraduates of engineering, there are several barriers like the understanding of the vocabulary, the analyzing the complex sentences and the grasping the whole texts. This paper tries to investigate the using condition of interactive reading strategy in reading scientific and technological English literature of postgraduates of engineering. The study reveals that postgraduates of engineering frequently using some of strategies of the interactive reading strategy, but the overall using condition is only in the average level, and is not so flexible.

Reflections on Non-English Major Postgraduate English Teaching Reform

This paper presents some reflections on non-English major postgraduate English teaching reform. The author points out some understandings on the English proficiency of non-English major postgraduate students and curriculum changes in the reform. The author thinks that postgraduate English teaching reform is a systematic project, with a goal to meet the practical needs of postgraduate students and improve their ability to use English in their study and work. Hence, every effort of the reform should be made to satisfy the practical needs of the students and to make their English study contribute to their achievements in their own subject area.

English Learning Strategies Employed by EFL Postgraduate Students in Southwest China

English learning strategies play an important role in the language proficiency for EFL learners. Both frequency and patterns of English learning strategies use were found to be significantly related to language proficiency. The present investigation aimed to investigate a) an overall strategy use of postgraduate students in southwest China; and b) to examine the relationship as well as patterns of variations in frequency of students' reported strategy use with reference to their gender and field of study. The subjects of this study were 200 postgraduates in the universities of southwest China. A written questionnaire based on the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL) was adapted and biodata was added for background information. The findings of the research showed that the postgraduates, on the whole, reported medium frequency of use of English learning strategies. The results of the data analysis also demonstrated that frequency of postgraduates' reported use of English learning strategies varied significantly in terms of gender and field of study. The implications, limitations and recommendations for further research were also discussed.

A Needs-analysis Approach to Postgraduate English Curriculum Design in Chinese Agriculture and Forestry Universities——A Case Study of Shandong Agricultural University

In order to investigate the curriculum design for postgraduate English in Agriculture and Forestry Colleges, this papermakes great attempts to probe into the target needs and learning needs of English in SDAU. Both quantitative and qualitative re-search methods were employed in the survey. The final conclusion of this study is that the current English curriculum design forpostgraduate in SDAU can not satisfy the needs of students and workplace completely. On the basis of such major findings and re-sults, this paper makes attempts to develop an English curriculum design and implementing model for postgraduate English teach-ing in SDAU, hoping to offer implications on curriculum design of postgraduate English in Agriculture and Forestry Colleges and of-fer suggestions on personalized teaching reform of postgraduate English.

Alternative Design of Postgraduate English Writing Course

This paper presents an alternative design of postgraduate English writing course to meet the requirement of the current postgraduate English teaching reform.The author believes that efficiently-organized writing activities based on practical needs could refresh teaching frame- work and consequently assist postgraduates in English writing.

Influence of English Proficiency on Postgraduate Students＇ Use of Language Learning Strategies

This study investigated the use of language learning strategies by a group of postgraduate students in a Chinese university. The emphasis was on the influence of L2 （second language） proficiency on learners＇ strategy use, aiming to look at how proficiency affects the use of LLS （language learning strategies） among postgraduate students learning EFL （English as a foreign language）, and to reveal some distinctive features in postgraduate students＇ use of learning strategies. Findings from this study have suggested a number of implications for the classroom teaching. Teachers should recognize that some strategies might be more suited to some learners than to others due to individual differences. Learners needed further training in the use of all learning strategies

欧美硕博论文中的中国武术研究现状及特征

为了解中国武术在欧美高校的学术影响力,帮助中国学者洞悉他者眼中的中国武术的样态,运用数理分析和文本分析的方法,对世界著名的学位论文数据库(ProQuest)2000-2023年间收录的有关中国武术的83篇硕博论文进行梳理。研究发现:1)从年度发文量上看,随着人口老龄化和慢性病的流行,以太极拳为代表的中国武术在治未病和慢性病方面的疗效已经逐渐得到关注;2)从研究生的培养单位来看,有关中国武术的硕博论文主要集中在美国,其它国家尚无这个领域的研究团队或者即使有团队,但是研究方向尚不稳定;3)从导师阵容来看,非华裔导师居多;4)从研究内容来看,人文社会科学领域主要集中在武侠文学、功夫影片、武术教学、功夫哲学等方面,自然科学领域关注点在于太极拳对心理疾病、平衡能力、肥胖症、记忆力等的效用。进一步分析得出欧美硕博论文中的中国武术研究具有以下特征:1)研究理念上追求特异性;2)研究内容上具有多元性;3)研究方法上崇尚跨界性;4)研究趋势上呈现离散性。该研究对于我国民族传统体育学研究生培养体系的完善和中国武术全球化发展战略的实施,具有重要的镜鉴意义。

Developing a curriculum model of English teaching for master's degree nursing education in a Chinese medicine university

Objective:English for Specific Purpose(ESP)is the essence for developing scientific research capacity,which is a core component for postgraduate education.The objective of this article is to develop a curriculum model for ESP of Master's level nursing education in a Chinese medicine university.Method:A three-year action research approach with continuous reflection and modification was used to develop an ESP curriculum based on the RICH model.A total of 78 students of Master's Science in Nursing enrolled in 2016-2018 and three course teachers in Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine participated in the study.The ESP curriculum based on the RICH model involved research-based learning topics(R),integrated curriculum(Ⅰ),cooperative learning methods(C),and humanistic outcome(H).Results:The passing rate of the students was 100%,the excellent rate was 79.5%,with an average score of 83.16±3.43.All students were satisfied with the ESP course design and acknowledged the process of"growing up under the pressure".Four students have published five articles in the journals included by Science Citation Index(SCI).Conclusions:The study exerted a positive effect on the ESP teaching and learning and provided new ideas for the ESP curriculum integration of Master's Science in Nursing in China.

Analysis on the introduction of foreign language scales in Chinese nursing masters dissertation

Objective: The nursing master’s dissertation were analyzed to understand the situation of the introduction of foreign language scales. Method: Bibliometric method and content analysis method were used to analyze the introduction of foreign language scales in the current Chinese nursing master’s dissertation which have been collected from CNKI database and WanFang database before February 1, 2018. Results: The introduction of foreign language scales started late, which was from 2012. In 2013, the foreign scales were most introduced (16.2%). The main source of thesis is from Tianjin Medical University (11.6%). English was the most popular language of the foreign scales (93.8%). 80.2% of researchers did not use translation guides. 31.3% of translators comfort the requirements of the translation guidelines. The introduced scales have good reliability and validity. Conclusion: The number of nursing masters dissertation introducing foreign scales has increased year by year with more sources and high quality. It shows that the academic level of nursing postgraduate student in China has been improved. Postgraduate students have a higher ability to learn foreign nursing knowledge and skills and use foreign nursing research tools. However, the lack of translation guide and the ambiguity of the selection criteria of the translators are widespread.

An integrated method for teaching English theoretical courses

The theoretical courses are very important for the students in the postgraduate phase because the students must have a good command of the theories and principles of the field to do their own research later. However, the issue of how to teach English major graduates theoretical courses effectively is the big headache both for teachers and students of English to tackle. The paper aims to introduce an integrated method of teaching English theoretical courses adopted by a teacher in Foreign Language School of Xi＇an Jiaotong University who taught ETTM course （English Teaching Theory and Methodology course）. And the method has employed the collaborative learning strategy and through a survey conducted among the students attended the course, and we find that the method has gained some effective teaching results. And the author of the paper also hopes that more attention should be paid to the probing better ways of teaching theoretical and specialty courses to English major graduates.

非英语专业研究生学术英语素养的结构模型及影响路径研究

本研究采用定性-定量-定性线性混合研究方法,探讨非英语专业研究生学术英语素养的构成要素,分析影响因素及影响路径。本研究建立的学术英语素养结构模型说明其内涵要素包含学术英语知识、学术英语技能和学术英语能力。学术英语素养影响因素包括学术英语信念、学术英语实践、学术英语环境和英语学习经历。影响路径模型结合访谈数据说明,学术英语信念对学术英语素养三大要素具有全面促进作用,学术英语环境与实践相辅相成,对学术英语技能具有直接影响效应,对学术英语能力兼具直接影响与间接影响效应。研究生的英语学习经历对学术英语技能具有直接的影响效应。本研究在理论上明晰了学术英语素养的共核理论与社会化理论间的联系,以期为中国语境下融合上述两种理论开展非英语专业研究生学术英语教学提供理论参考。

应试学习者的英语写作定向动机流研究

在二语习得领域,定向动机流指习得过程中高强度的动机体验,研究其规律对于二语学习者和二语教学者具有重要意义。文章通过追踪调查4名考研大学生的英语写作训练前、中、后的动机强度,考察其英语写作定向动机流的变化情况、启动和终结的时间节点、在过程中与写作成绩之间的相互作用,以及其强度与参加考研次数之间的关系。研究发现,随着写作的推进和考研时间的临近,动机会越来越强且波动减小,考研大学生的定向动机流有明确的启动点且不与目标确立点重合,但没有确切的终结点,在写作训练过程中英语写作的动机和写作成绩之间有较强的相关性,其强度与参加考研次数呈正相关。

“四新”建设背景下非英语专业研究生学术英语教学改革实践——以华中农业大学为例

“四新”建设是新时代世界高等教育创新发展的中国方案,公共英语是非英语专业研究生的公共必修课程,在发展研究生综合英语语言能力、促进研究生专业成长和全面发展方面具有基础性作用。新时期公共英语教学应以高质量服务“四新”背景下的研究生教育为宗旨,以培养研究生的学术英语能力为主导,当前研究生公共英语教学不符合“四新”建设要求,可以用建构主义理论指导研究生公共英语教学改革,提出了系列改革举措,取得了改革成效。

研究生学位论文写作的体系意识——一种教育学的视角

学位论文是一个有机整体,是由一系列的概念、命题组成的逻辑体系,因此,在学位论文写作中,研究生需确立体系意识。这种体系意识具体表现为:在构思时,澄清研究问题,预想竞争性观点;在写作时,界定核心概念,形成树状概念体系;在修改时,明确自己的知识贡献,搭建金字塔式对话结构。

文科硕士学位论文写作的支持困局、成因与破局

本研究基于18名文科硕士的学位论文写作经历,描述了他们写作时所感知到的各方支持具体表现。整体而言,五类主体的支持类型与程度各异。研究进一步分析了形成此困局的原因,其外部原因与多方理解偏差和导生关系异化相关,内部原因则在于研究生的“靠自己”心理。同时,内外部因素自洽循环,加深了这一困局。对此,应当明确学位论文的三重价值,汇聚各方指导共识,建立和谐的导学关系,积极关注学生心理,构筑以学生为中心的学术成长共同体。
