Human communication system includes two parts, ... As the economy and culture developing and globalizing so quickly, people have more opportunities to communicate with others who come from different cultures than before. Human communication system includes two parts, one is language communication system and the other is nonverbal communication system. Some researches show that in human's daily communication, 93% information is transmitted by nonverbal communication, among which, 55% information is transmitted by facial, gesture and so on; 38% information is transmitted by tone. So nonverbal communication is the main part of body language. But body language and culture have an inseparable relationship, some body languages are similarly in different cultures, and some have their own unique culture connotation. 展开更多

Now although the teachers seem to be fully aware of the significance of culture teaching, there are misunderstandings about it. A survey was conducted to find out how the teachers understand and meet the requirements of the curriculums. The results show even the teachers do not understand the objectives of ELT (English Language Teaching) stipulated in the curriculums. To examine their performance in this regard, group discussion da... This paper addresses the issue of Chinese students' oral English skills in talking about Chinese culture from the perspective of conversation analysis. To examine their performance in this regard, group discussion data in the classroom were collected for analysis. Their oral skills in talking about Chinese New Year and Christmas, a Western festival, were analyzed and compared to determine their oral performance in describing their native culture. Comments by two native English speakers on the students' performance are used to complement the conversation analysis. The results indicate that, compared with their performance regarding Christmas, the students were able to express a wider range of cultural connotations about Chinese New Year in English, but they used significantly fewer correct culturally-loaded words and phrases, and switched to Chinese much more frequently, suggesting unsatisfactory oral skills in describing Chinese culture. 展开更多
