Oral Literature:The Translation and Dissemination of Mulian Baojuan in the English World

Mulian baojuan,originating from the Sūtra of Ullambana,tells the story of Mulian rescuing his mother from hell.Rostislav Berezkin,David Johnson,and Wilt L.Idema have studied and introduced it.This paper mainly discusses the translation and dissemination of baojuan to sort out and verify its spread in the English world.The translation and dissemination of baojuan have shifted towards its performances,illustrations,and social functions.The study of baojuan has presented a new development trend by breaking the restrictions of the genre of text and through dynamic interactions with novels,dramas,and other forms of literature.

Analysis of publication dissemination of Chinese present current literature work English translation and research methodologies

As a systematic work, there are very close links between the various aspects of the English translation of Chinese modern and contemporary literary works, whether they are translated into the main body, translated content and other links, or a specific translation approach, are not segmentation. Many translators, sinologists and books, magazines and so on have played a very important role in the process of translating modern and contemporary literary works in China. However with English-Chinese “borrowism” compared with, English work that translates the Chinese present current literature work, no matter in quantity and quality, infi uence and other aspects that the work itself has appear the relative backwardness. In order to promote the modern and contemporary Chinese literary works in the world, it is necessary to analyze and study the English translation of Chinese modern and contemporary literary works and the research methods.

Poetry Translation and Cultural Transmission——the English Version of the Classical Chinese Poem “Bring in the Wine”

This article,based on the English version of Li Bai's Classical Chinese Poem“Bring in the Wine”,explores the important position of cultural transmission in the English translation of the Classical Chinese Poem through the comparison of the cultural translation,and finally draws the rationality and feasibility of the creative translation techniques in the English translation of the Classical Chinese Poems.It points out that the alienation of the Chinese culture's external communication has ignored the reader's cultural acceptance ability and position of the western countries and regions dominated by the foreign countries.It is believed that in a long period of time,Chinese culture needs the translation of Chinese translators to dissimilation,the translation of foreign sinologists,domestication,and alienation,to meet the needs of different types of readers and to promote the Chinese culture to go out.

A Study on English Translation Strategy of Enlightenment Classics in The Three Word Primer

China's traditional culture has always stressed the ideological education that"renounce evil and turn to virtue"and"loyalty,sincerity,benevolence,righteousness",which particularly focused on the initiation and guidance for children.As the carrier of the elementary education,enlightenment classics is the essence and concentration of Chinese traditional culture.But it is also a difficult problem for translators that how to perfect the English translation of enlightenment classics in a strategy way to overseas readers.Tianjin Foreign Studies University professor Zhao Yanchun's The Three Word Primer provides solutions to such problem.His English version has faithful content,exquisite style and what's more, it is the first Three Character Classic with"even rhyme style of three-word figure"in the world and it has rhythmic sentences and rhythm sensation.Through the English version of Zhao, the author puts forward some views and thoughts on the translation strategies of the enlightenment classics.

On the Translation of Iconography of the Decorated Writing-Paper of the Ten Bamboo Studio Based on the Theory of Translational Action

Based on the theory of translational action of the functionalism,this paper selects three aspects,translation as an inter-cultural and communicative action,a purposeful text-processing action and an inter-personal action,to analyze the important issues as well as the translation strategies,methods and techniques adopted in the translation of Chinese allusions.The study shows that the theory of translational action is important for the translation of allusions and that it helps to modify the target text.The translator,also the author of this paper,hopes that this study will be useful for the translation of allusions and the publicity of traditional Chinese culture across the world.

操作规范理论视域下《论语》的翻译与传播

典籍是中华文化的重要组成部分,典籍翻译有助于挖掘与传播文化。随着中日文化交流日益增多,中国文化典籍日译本受到进一步关注。总体上看,翻译操作规范理论中包括母体规范和文本语言规范。在此翻译理论指导下,可以看出,中国学者刘德润、孔祥林和日本译者宫崎市定的《论语》三种日译本各有其风格特点,以实例的方式探讨日译本之间的相似性和差异性,并分析导致风格差异的原因,有利于推动中国文化典籍的广泛传播。

On the Imperfection and Improvement of the Chinese-English Dictionary as an Important Aid in the Translation of Chinese Classics into English： A Case Study of Buddhism-Related Entries

Theoretically, the Chinese-English dictionary （CED） is vitally important to the translation of Chinese classics into English（TOCCIE）. In reality, however, many CEDs in general use fail more or less to function as an indispensable aid in TOCCIE actions by offering either inadequate information or, more alarmingly, partial or even total misinformation in Chinese-civilization-specific entries that defy easy rendering. This paper attempts to illustrate this deplorable fact with a case study of the Buddhism-related entries （BILE） in three CEDs representative of state-of-the-art Chinese bilingual lexicography. The conclusion is that it is high time to substantially improve the CED as an important TOCCIE aid, so that a large-scale, systematic execution of TOCCIE, which seems befitting the global image of present-day China as a rising power not only politico-economically but also culturally, will be performed with greater facility.

Poetry Translation as Rewriting:A Case Study of Zhang Zhizhong’s Reading English Literature to Translate Classical Chinese Poems

In the summer of 2023,Zhang Zhizhong’s Reading English Literature to Translate Classical Chinese Poems got published as one of the“Comparative Literature and World Literature Research Series”edited by Cao Shunqing.It presents Zhang’s latest theory and praxis of translating classical Chinese poems.As a kind of rewriting,Zhang’s translations are similar to modern English poems—with creative expressions in contemporary English,the enjambments from free verses,the form of concrete poetry,and the artistic conceptions of classical Chinese poetry,but without the rhymes in original works.How this poetry translation as rewriting generates in the constraints of ideology,poetics,and patronage is to be analyzed in the light of AndréLefevere’s rewriting theory.By examining the non-textual factors related to Zhang’s rewriting,it aims to reveal how this rewriting,as an experimental approach to poetry translation,can shed light on the global circulation of Chinese poetry.

在图尔敏论证模式下,汉语典籍议论文《劝学》论证发散、杂乱,与英语世界脍炙人口的议论文Of Studies论证模式迥异。议论文翻译可采用语篇作为翻译单位,并将其细分为翻译的转换单位和翻译的分析单位。议论文中语篇的本质是论点,转换单位和分析单位可以分别由分论点和中心论点担任。

A Statistical Approach to Annotation in the English Translation of Chinese Classics:A Case Study of the Four English Versions of Fushengliuji

Annotation in translation is of great value in communicating"the local"to the global readership.Based on our content and function-centered statistics on the 483 notes of the four English versions of Shen Fu’s autobiographical work Fushengliuji,we find that 1)in terms of content,cultural,geographic,historical,and literary references are the most important categories of annotation in the English translation of this work;annotations in the four versions are employed to serve 6 major functions/purposes:to further inform,to facilitate understanding,to avoid misunderstanding,to interpret personally,to cite or allude,and to correct mistakes;2)no correlation can be established between the use of annotation and the reception of the work per se,but it can reflect the translator’s poise and strategy which ultimately affect the reception of the work;and 3)Lin’s version used relatively few notes and relied heavily on paraphrasing,a practice which leads to better accessibility of his translation and at the same time to the possible sacrifice of some culturally and socially significant elements of the original.Black’s translation used notes sparingly,and she was so creative as to rearrange and edit the original text,revealing her approach of radical"reader-centeredness".Pratt and Chiang’s version and Sanders’version used a large number of notes carrying a sinological mission,revealing their respect for the original and their decision to inform and inspire their readers.We argue that cultural translation,whether aided by annotation or not,is predominantly an art about"glocalism"and that both author-centeredness and reader-centeredness can be reconciled,since ultimately they serve the same"communicative"purpose.

近三百年中国典籍英译的多维透视与现实镜鉴

中国典籍英译是促进中西文明交流互鉴,继而反向助推中国典籍资源传承与利用的重要手段。文章从《中国文献西译书目》《新编中国文献西译书目(1900-2017)》中甄选出1,620条相关单行本条目,运用知识图谱的可视化分析方法和文献计量法,绘制18世纪上半叶以降近三百年英译作品、译者群体和出版发行的图景。以史为鉴,新时期我国主导的中国典籍英译应规避选题的重复性,契合海外受众的需求,发扬翻译大家的精神并倡导合作翻译,推进国内出版社的国际化及加强与英美出版社的通力合作。

随着中国文化“走出去”战略的深入推进,汉英翻译成为讲述中国故事、传播中国声音的重要方式,相关研究也呈现繁荣活跃的态势。本文以CSSCI和Web of Science2013年至2022年发表中华典籍英译研究的期刊文章为对象,运用可视化软件CiteSpace分析国内外发表相关文章的数量、时间、期刊、关键词和被引文献等数据,研究发现国内外研究热点存在较多重合。在微观层面,学者不仅聚焦中华典籍译本的正文本,还将视野拓展到副文本,探讨副文本在翻译活动中发挥的作用。另有学者借助语料库分析译本,以提高结论的客观性和公正性。在宏观层面,译本在目标语国家的传播、出版和接受等情况也是学者关注的焦点。基于汉英翻译研究现状,未来应继续扩大汉英翻译研究范围,给予其他类典籍更多关注;创新研究理论、方法和视角,拓宽研究深度和广度;打破学科界限,加强跨学科研究和翻译研究团队建设。

中医典籍英译研究(2000—2022):成绩、问题与建议

作为中国科技与文明的重要载体,中医典籍为中国同世界的科技文化交流做出了重要贡献。在中国文化走出去的时代背景下,开展中医典籍英译研究具有重要的理论价值和现实意义。本文统计了中医典籍英译本概况,围绕发文概况、研究对象、研究主题和理论视角等方面深入分析了2000—2022年间中医典籍英译研究所取得的成绩,并对当前存在的研究对象较为单一、研究方法欠科学性,以及研究内容较为局限等问题进行反思,进而提出相应建议。研究旨在进一步提升中医典籍英译研究水平,促进中医典籍英译事业的发展,推动中医更好地走向世界。

中国农学典籍英译研究:回顾与展望

作为世界农业发源地之一,中国的农耕文明在历史上长期居于世界先进水平。农业生产实践上的优势催生了大批宝贵的、种类繁多的农学文化古籍,对世界农作物种植、生产工具和技术的开发影响深远,是现今中国“文化外译”战略的重要组成部分。基于这一事实,本文将回顾我国农学典籍英译的发展历程,统计国内与农学典籍英译相关的研究论文,从发文概况、文本考察、研究主题、理论视角、期刊来源分布等方面梳理农学典籍英译的研究现状。分析发现,当前研究存在诸如译本数量少、文本考察单一、宏观研究欠缺、研究方法传统等问题。据此,本文最后对我国农学典籍的译介提出了展望与建议。

中国建筑典籍的外译与传播是中国传统文化“走出去”的重要一步。建筑典籍的外译在新时代应具有符合当代社会价值的理念,并符合译语国家的文化需求,满足其社会需要。因此,新时代中国建筑典籍的翻译从宏观角度应以目的为导向,从微观层面要选择恰当的翻译策略构建目标文本。对建筑典籍的外译现状与传播方式进行了分析与总结,提出了中国建筑典籍在新时代视域下的翻译策略与方法,以期促进建筑典籍的外译与传播,构建中国建筑文化、建筑思想的国际性格局。

中华典籍外译的易读性与可读性研究——以《西游记》韦利译本和蓝诗玲译本为例

本文以《西游记》韦利译本和蓝诗玲译本为例,通过软件量化分析和文本细读研究,比较了两节译本的易读性和可读性。结果发现,两节译本均遵循“一致性”原则和“缩短距离”原则以提高译本易读性,同时利用副文本构建叙事语境,采用编译结合或译创结合策略以增强文本故事性和时代性,从而提高译本可读性。两节译本的成功经验或可为今后中华典籍外译提供一些新的启示。

“一带一路”倡议下中国茶典籍的对外译介与文化传播——以陆羽《茶经》译介为例

中华茶典籍是华夏文明的重要组成部分,亦是传播中华茶文化的重要载体之一。在“一带一路”倡议下,推动茶文化走出去,对于提升中华传统文化的国际影响力具有重要意义。从跨文化传播的视角,详细梳理陆羽《茶经》的对外译介和跨文化传播历程,聚焦《茶经》英译本情况及接受度调研,并以《大中华文库·茶经》为语料剖析其典型翻译问题以及对茶文化跨文化传播的启示,为传播中华文化提供借鉴。
