A Study of the English Translation of Characteristic Cuisines of the Hexi Corridor from the Perspective of Multimodal Discourse Analysis

Given the diversity of geographical and cultural backgrounds,it is difficult to find precise counterparts of many food-related vocabularies in the unique dietary culture of the Hexi Corridor in the target language,making it challenging to fully convey the essence of its local dietary culture in translation.To achieve the purpose of translation,the theory of multimodal discourse analysis provides an ideal translation approach through the language mode,image mode,sound mode,and the synergistic effect of multimodalities,which can accurately address the deficiencies in the translation of dietary culture.Through this research,it is not only possible to highlight the unique charm of the dietary culture of the Hexi Corridor but also to build a bridge for its international dissemination,promoting cross-border cultural exchanges and mutual understanding.

Study on C-E Translation of Lexical Items with Chinese Characteristics in the Report on the 19th National Congress of the CPC

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is a meeting of great importance held during the decisivestage of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.As a window to know about the latest changes of China,it is au-thoritative and of much value to study.As time goes by,there emerge more lexical items with Chinese characteristics.This articlestudies Chinese-English translation skills of lexical items with Chinese Characteristics in the Report on the 19th National Congressof the CPC.First,it classifies these lexical items into several kinds including those related with economy,politics,culture,peo-ple’s wellbeing and other lexical items,and then studies them respectively.

A Study of Characteristics and Translation of Existential Sentences in Chinese and English

The syntactic characteristics of existential sentences (ES) in Chinese and English are systematically discussed. Chinese existential sentences have three major components: A, B, and C, i.e., the locative phrase, the existential verb, and the existential noun phrase. English existential sentences consist of the expletive “there”, existential verb, existential noun or noun phrase and locative phrase. In terms of syntactic characteristics, similarities and dissimilarities coexist. When translating ES in Chinese and English, some important skills are needed, such as replacement of locative phrase, addition or deletion of “there”, adjustment of verbs, and the change of determiners before the existential noun.

On Strategies of Translating Chinese Characteristic Terms into English-Taking Chinese Economic Terms as Examples

After the reform and opening up to the outside world,great changes have taken place in many fields like economy,politics,and culture in China.In the field of economy,a multitude of new phenomena,new ideas and new things spring up continuously.At the same time,many Chinese characteristic terms reflecting these new things have been emerging.The creation of these terms requires the translators to provide accurate and idiomatic translation of them in time.The English translation of Chinese characteristic terms plays an important role not only in promoting Chinese characteristic socialist economy but also in deepening the understanding of Chinese economy for English readers.Therefore,this paper will analyze the features and translation obstacles of Chinese characteristic terms,then point out some practical guidelines and methods to solve the problems in translating Chinese characteristic terms into English.This paper aims to improve the translation of Chinese Characteristic terms.

A Study of Politeness Principle in Business Letters

Business English letter is an important component of external part of business activities, politeness of the language not only shows the high quality of the businessmen, but also helps to establish a good international business relations. From a stylistic point of view, business letters in English have their unique characteristics in accordance with the Politeness Principles (PP). A sufficient understanding of this theory and its corresponding features helps to write a neatly arranged letter which may bring about good business relations. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the language characteristics of business English letters on the Politeness Principles. This paper investigates the main characteristics of business English letters in terms of vocabulary and sentence features. The Politeness Principles are elaborated through the analysis of examples. Conclusions concerning the stylistic characteristics are drawn based on these analysis. By exploring these characteristics of business letters, the paper also provides the learners of business English with the techniques necessary for writing business letters.

Hybridity and Media Translation

In recent years,abundant words with Chinese characteristics in media translation show that on the one hand,the unique society,politics,economics and culture,and on the other hand,the important source of foreign words.According to post colonial cultural translation theory,through different hybridization tactics,they formed the third part,which is different from the source language and target language,and is the product of globalization.This notion of hybridity not only has great bearing on translators’selection of translating strategies,but also helps to change some of the accepted conception about translation,and thus enables us to have a better understanding of media translation.This promotes China’s discourse power in international society and the objectivity of reports of China,which constructs the third space in media translation between the West and China.

中国特色国际话语体系背景下翻译课程思政教学探索

中国特色工程技术国际话语权的构建,要求翻译人员具备更扎实的中国文化功底、社会主义核心价值观、积极参与工程技术相关国际事务、遵纪守法和良好的职业道德素养、应对未来挑战的能力等。因此,本文以《工程翻译》课程为例,着眼于从以下几个方面在翻译课堂上融入课程思政:(1)将中国思想文化潜移默化融入课堂;(2)将社会主义核心价值观等思政融入专业内容;(3)将公民道德与译员职业道德准则渗透于实践;(4)提高教师个人修养,潜移默化地感染学生;(5)引导学生正确地面对未来的挑战,以期培养出的翻译人才能更好地助力构建中国特色工程技术领域的国际话语权。

汉英笔译课程思政模块化体验式教学路径探索

为落实立德树人的根本任务,思政元素融入当前高校专业课程教学工作需不断加强。以地方本科高校英语专业汉英笔译课程思政建设为例,构建翻译课程思政元素库,采用模块化—体验式教学模式,从“素养与思政、知识与能力、过程与方法”三个维度进行渐进性体验式教学设计,运行整合性教学评价,实现翻译知识教学与思政教育的同向同行,推进课程思政背景下的翻译教学改革。

英伦茶风:英语文学的茶文化范式及汉译启示

茶叶风靡英伦三岛,成为“国民饮品”的同时也走上了文人的书桌,走进了诗人的颂歌。以质性研究软件NVivo 12为工具,以11部题材各异的英语文学作品为研究样本,对其指涉的茶文化进行编码赋值。质性数据表明,英语文学作品的茶文化表现为物态文化、体制文化、行为文化和心态文化四大范式。在文学与茶的联姻中,物态文化和行为文化处于叙事模式建构的主要地位,体制文化受到故事主题的宰制最为明显;心态文化蕴含英伦茶风的哲学思考,游动于众多文学作品之中。数据揭示了英语文学作品的茶语特征,即以茶为媒的本土意识、音义结合的茶名及茶意象的美学赋予。基于以上发现,以功能对等翻译理论为指导,得出英语文学作品茶文化汉译的三大启示:尊重茶文化差异;合理进行翻译补偿;再现茶物语言的诗性美感。

基于语料库的服装英语语言特征及汉译研究

为了实现服装用语准确翻译,促进服饰文化传播,建立服装英语单语语料库,选取通用英语语料库作为参照,从词汇和句法两个方面对服装英语文本特征进行分析。发现服装英语文本用词丰富,存在一定量纯科技词汇和半科技词汇,名词化结构多,被动句和长句多。根据文本特征,探究其汉译策略,得出如下结论:从词汇来看,翻译纯科技词汇,需参照标准译文;对于半科技词汇,合理引申,查找求证;名词化结构可译成动词或四字格。从句法来看,对于被动句,可采用以下4种译法:变换主语、译成无主语句、增加逻辑主语以及使用“由、给、受、让、得以、加以”等词表达被动意义。对于长句的翻译,主要原则是打破关系找顺序,主要策略是分离重组。

对外传播视角下中国特色词汇英译探究--以2023年《政府工作报告》为例

随着中国不断加快融入世界的步伐,国际社会越来越需要了解中国。翻译,这座连接中国与世界的桥梁,进入了全新时代。一年一度的全国两会《政府工作报告》中含有大量的中国特色词汇,涉及政治、经济、民生、生态、科技等各个领域。向世界介绍中国,即构建中国对外话语体系,译者翻译水平的高低是对外传播好中国声音,讲好中国故事的关键。译者在英译特色词汇时应以对外传播为目的,准确掌握原文内涵,灵活转换思维角度,采取恰当的英译策略,让目的语受众看得懂,从而更有效地对外传播中国思想,扩大中国话语影响力。

概念整合视角下政治语篇中隐喻英译的认知解读及策略研究

隐喻作为一种认知现象在政治语篇中起着重要作用。文章选取《习近平谈治国理政》第二卷中、英文版为语料,以概念整合理论为视角,对隐喻英译进行认知解读。结果表明:隐喻英译是一种动态的概念整合;概念整合翻译网络类型、对应物投射方式与翻译策略之间存在密不可分的对应关系;语言及文化心理等多因素引起不同翻译策略选择,并呈现出不同的认知心理过程。

高低语境下英汉翻译策略研究

在全球化趋势不可阻挡的当下,跨文化交际的重要性不言而喻,而跨文化交际又与言语和语境两个因素密切相关。高低语境文化使用言语表达时,对语境依赖程度不同,这会对不同语言的翻译造成一定的影响。从高低语境文化的介绍中引入,对高低语境下英汉语言特点进行分析,并探究造成英汉语言差异的原因,最后对高低语境下英汉翻译策略进行说明。研究高低语境下的英汉翻译策略有助于提高跨文化交际效果,同时也有助于推动不同文化之间的相互交流。

推进习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想“三进”的实践路径——以高校英语翻译课程为例

推进习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想进教材进课堂进头脑,既是实现高校“立德树人”育人目标的内在要求,也是推进课程思政建设的重要内容。然而,在外语教学与“三进”融合过程中存在“进教材”贴合度不够、“进课堂”灵活度不够和“进头脑”深度不够等现实问题。为此,以高校英语翻译课程为例,提出推动“三进”与外语课程思政深度融合的实践路径:(一)精选素材,拓展补充思政语料,提升教材内容的契合度;(二)创新教学方式,灵活运用思政元素,提升课堂教学效果;(三)扩展第二课堂,挖掘文化育人资源,增强育人成效;(四)建立多元的评价考核机制,全面评估育人实效。

副文本是翻译研究的重要领域。在中华文化走出去背景下,《习近平谈治国理政》的副文本研究有助于推进其翻译与国际传播。本文在对《习近平谈治国理政》的韩译本索引副文本进行分类和描写基础之上,结合社会心理学的角色理论,探析译者在翻译过程中的译者主体性和三大身份扮演。研究表明:借助副文本理论,通过分析《习近平谈治国理政》索引中的中国特色话语韩译,译者行为和话语建构得到了多维阐释,在实现中国特色话语有效译和精准译中译者发挥的作用也得以被揭示。

翻译写作学视域下政治文献中国特色词汇英译探析——以《习近平谈治国理政》英文版为例

汉英两种语言的巨大差异,加上不同的社会文化背景,使得如何正确英译政治文献中的中国特色词汇成为无法避免的难题之一。以“直译与意译”“异化与归化”为代表的翻译方法与策略未能在翻译实践中将语言层面的操作与文化层面的取向统一起来。翻译写作学将翻译原则与方法进行梳理,提出“直译、意译、归译”三分法,并修正长期以来对“意译”的误解,将翻译中语言与文化的操作进行统一,既简化了翻译原则,又为同一原文衍生出多种不同译文提供了合理解释的依据,有助于更好地理解翻译效果,从而采用合适的翻译策略。
