The Bible has been translated into many languages, including Tshivenda. Translating a text from the source language into the target language is always characterized by translational problems. The first version of the ...The Bible has been translated into many languages, including Tshivenda. Translating a text from the source language into the target language is always characterized by translational problems. The first version of the Tshivenda translated Bible was produced in 1936, whereas the new version was published in 1998. The translation of the new version of the Tshivenda Bible is based upon the new English version. However, some of the Tshivenda translation equivalents do not reflect the same meaning as those of the source language. There are many factors behind the non-equivalence of the English and Tshivencla lexical items, for example, culture and linguistic systems. The Bible contains ＂culture-bound＂ items, which present specific challenges to translation. Therefore, context becomes important in determining the meaning of the words. The aim of this paper is to highlight translation strategies used in the translation of The Lord＇s Prayer from the new English version of the Bible titled GoodNews Bible： Today＇s English Version With Deutorocanonicals/Apocrypha （1996） into Tshivenda, and the effects they have in transferring the meaning of aspects of the prayer.展开更多

Self-representation has been widely established as a linguistic strategy to construct authority for better acceptance in academic writing.Self-sourced reporting sentence stems refer to the recurrent pre-constructed cl...Self-representation has been widely established as a linguistic strategy to construct authority for better acceptance in academic writing.Self-sourced reporting sentence stems refer to the recurrent pre-constructed clausal semi-fixed sequences that perform the function of elaboration of the author’s argument.The present study adopts the Idiom Principle and conducts contrastive phraseological studies on the form and functions of self-sourced reporting sentence stems using comparable and parallel corpora.The study shows that(a)there exist in journal articles bountiful self-sourced reporting sentence stems;(b)sentence stems are the integration of meaning and form,and can be regarded as units of equivalence;and(c)self-sourced reporting acts are significantly different between English and Chinese academic cultures.The findings of this study could provide suggestions for teaching of academic writing,as well as translation practices.展开更多

Therefore, a set of hydraulic system is used to replace the motor. So it can get rid of electricity, and move conveniently, applying to the suburbs, parks, roadsides, which means expanding the range of application. Secondly, in view of the pulverizer speed higher than the motor speed, it is necessary to add the auxiliary speed regulating device. Besides , to adjust speed is more troublesome, and the hydraulic motor can directly drive the pulverizer. Therefore to adjust the flow of the hydraulic motor can change the speed of the pulverizer. In addition, base on the characteristics of work start, and stop, with a long time, big moment of inertia for Pulverizer, and it is the growth process of the motor driving pulverizer. The rotary inertia equivalent to the motor end will increase the square of the reduce ratio, and the load of the machine obviously. Driving by hydraulic motor straightly, and this problem will be avoided. Finally, in the light of the large start-up torque, and the high speed at working time of the pulverizer, the constant power pumps is choosed to meet the work demand. Constant power pumps can adjust the flow and pressure according to the different load automatically, thus more energy are saved.
