The results show that the ErCl3 addition in AZ91 magnesium alloy has the characteristics of ignition-proof and purification, and also improves the tensile strength σb and elongation δ. Due to the addition of 1.8% ErCl3, the σb and δ can be improved from 156 MPa and 1.8% to 220 MPa and 4.1% respectively, that is, σb and δ can be increased by 41% and 128%, respectively. When increasing the content of ErCl3 further, Al7ErMn5 phase forms, bulky inclusion appears, which leads to the decrease of mechanical properties of the alloy. The tensile fracture mechanism is also traverse grain and quasi-cleavage fracture, which is not changed by ErCl3 addition.展开更多
