It has been found that Li addition causes decreasing of the volume fraction of Mg2Si, while a little amount of Ti causes to increasing, which is of a great importance to the adjustment of phase constitution and alloy properties. To obtain satisfactory joining between titanium alloys end stainless steel, it is of great significance to study the process of Ti-Fe eutectic reaction. The preliminary studies about the liquid forming, spreading end the structure of the contact reaction between pure Ti and pure Fe are carried out at 1 120℃ for different holding times in high-frequency induction heated vacuum furnace. The results show that for Fe(particle-like)/Ti(plate-like) contact reaction couples, owing to Fe's higher density then titanium's, the Fe/Ti eutectic reaction develops in the thickness direction of plate-like Ti, named "deposition effect". Then the eutectic reaction can be realized without the inter-diffusion between Ti end Fe atoms, so the formation rate of the liquid phase is very quick. For Ti (particle-like)/ Fe (plate-like) contact reaction couples, the eutectic reaction has a strong direction, i.e. the eutectic liquid is formed mostly at the Ti side, which leads to much dissolution of Ti particle end very little dissolution of the Fe base metal. It can be seen that the diffusion rate of Fe in Ti determines the whole process of the eutectic reaction, behaved as that the dissolution rate of Ti (particle-like)/ Fe (plate-like) is much lower then that of Fe(particle-like)/Ti(plate-like), end the dissolution rate of Ti obeys the square root law. Whatever means the Ti, Fe are assembled by, only dissolution process can be founded, the spread phenomena is unobvious, which is concerned with the formation of the inter- metallic compounds end the "deposition effect" of Fe. 展开更多

A systematical study on the relationship between the amounts of different eutectic phases especially the low-melting-point(LMP)eutectics and the hot tearing susceptibility of ternary Al−Cu−Mg alloys during solidification was performed.By controlling the concentrations of major alloying elements(Cu,Mg),the amounts of LMP eutectics at the final stages of solidification were varied and the corresponding hot tearing susceptibility(HTS)was determined.The results showed that the Al−4.6Cu−0.4Mg(wt.%)alloy,which contained the smallest fraction of LMP eutectics among the investigated alloys,was observed to be the most susceptible to hot tearing.With the amount of total residual liquid being approximately the same in the alloys,the hot tearing resistance is considered to be closely related to the amounts of LMP eutectics.Specifically,the higher the amount of LMP eutectics was,the lower the HTS of the alloy was.Further,the potential mechanism of low HTS for alloys with high amounts of LMP eutectics among ternary Al−Cu−Mg alloys was discussed in terms of feeding ability and permeability as well as total viscosity evolution during solidification. 展开更多

A series of low-temperature phase transitions of sodium aluminate solutions were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicate that NaOH concentration is a primary impact factor for the binary eutectic point and ice melting temperature of sodium aluminate solutions with low NaOH concentration. In addition, the phase transition process of sodium aluminate solutions with low NaOH concentration from 123.15 to 283.15 K is divided into four steps: non-crystal to crystal, ternary eutectic reaction, binary eutectic reaction and ice melt. The projection phase diagram of NaOH-Al(OH)3-H2O system at low temperature was plotted, in which the ternary eutectic temperature for sodium aluminate solutions is 183.15 K. 展开更多

Investigation has been made on the causes of hot cracking in the surfacing layer of Ni_3Al basealloy by analysing the solidification process of fusion pool and the distribution of thermal stresses. The re-sults show that the cracking is directly related to both the occurrence of eutectic phase β' (NiAI) within theinterdendritic region and high thernial stresses in the surfacing layer ,and which are caused by selecting highwelding rate. When the process of electric arc weld is changed from straight line rnovement to that along’Z’pattern,the cracking in the surfacing layer of Ni_3Al base alloy is prevented owing to being reduced of boththe cooling rate of liquid in the fusion liool and the speed of the moving heat source. Lowering the outputpower of the electric arc welding could lead to the reducing of rnelting volume of the base material ,and lowerthe arnount of iron atoms dissolving in the fusion pool ,so that the trend of the eutectic reaction within the in-terdendritic region is reduced,and which is helpful to suppress the cracking in the surfacing layer of Ni_3Albase alloy. 展开更多

In the present work, crystal structure and for- mation mechanism of the secondary phase in Heusler Ni- Mn-Sn-Co materials were investigated using X-ray dif- fraction, scanning/transmission electron microscopy and selected-area electron diffraction techniques. Experimental results showed that the secondary phase presented in both Ni44.1Mn35.1Sn10.8Co10 as-cast bulk alloy and melt-spun ribbon, possessing a face-centered cubic (fcc) NilTSn3-type structure. The secondary phase in the as-cast bulk alloy was resulted from a eutectic reaction after the formation of a primary dendritic flphase during cooling. However in the melt-spun rapidly solidified ribbon, the secondary phase was largely suppressed as nano-precipitates distributed along the grain boundaries, which was attributed to a divorced eutectic reaction. The secondary phase exhibited partial amorphous state due to high local cooling rate. 展开更多

This paper focuses on the research on double-electrode gas metal arc welding(DE-GMAW) of AZ31 B magnesium alloy sheet with 2 mm thickness. During the welding process, stable hybrid arc of metal inert gas(MIG) and tungsten inert gas(TIG) is employed as welding heat source. Optical and electron microscopes are used to observe the microstructures of the weld joint. X-ray diffraction(XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) are employed to identify the components in fusion zone. Microhardness is also tested. When the MIG current is 80 A, the perfect weld joint is obtained, though figures of fish scales are observed in all joints in the research. The fusion zone is formed by dendrites, where β-Mg17(Al, Zn)12is dispersed. The hardness in fusion zone and heat affected zone(HAZ) is lower than that in base metal(BM). The average Vickers hardness of fusion zone and HAZ is about 58 and 56 respectively, while the Vickers hardness of BM is about 63. 展开更多
