Explosion damage effects of aviation kerosene storage tank under strong ignition

In order to study the blast damage effects of aviation kerosene storage tanks,the out-field explosion experiments of 8 m3fixed-roof tanks were carried out.The fragments,shock wave and fireball thermal radiation of the tank in the presence of bottom oil,half oil and full oil,as well as empty tank,were investigated under internal explosion by various TNT charge contents(1.8 kg,3.5 kg and 6.2 kg).The results showed that the tank roof was the only fragment produced,and the damage forms could be divided into three types.The increase of TNT charge content and oil volume enlarged the deformation of the tank,while the hole ratio presented a trend of increase first and then decrease.The H_r,maxand V_(max)values positively increased as increasing the TNT charge content and oil volume(from empty to half oil),but decreased in full oil.The Pmaxvalues had a progressive increase with the increment of TNT charge content,but not the case with the increase in oil volumes.The development of fireball was divided into three stages:tank roof‘towed'flame,jet flow flame tumbling and rising,and jet flow flame extinguishing.The Dmaxand Hf,maxvalues both increased as increasing TNT charge content and oil volumes.The oscillation phenomenon of fireball temperature was observed in the cooling process.The average temperature of fireball surface was positively correlated with TNT charge content,and negatively correlated with oil volumes.

Refinement of the Proposed Gamma-Ray Burst Time Delay Model

This paper is the second instalment in our study of the observed time delay in the arrival times of radio photons emanating from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs). The mundane assumption in contemporary physics as to the cause of these pondersome time delays is that they are a result of the photon being endowed with a non-zero mass. While we do not rule out the possibility of a non-zero mass for the photon, our working assumption is that the major cause of these time delays may very well be that these photons are travelling in a rarefied cosmic plasma in which the medium’s electrons interact with the electric component of the Photon, thus generating tiny currents that lead to dispersion, hence, a frequency-dependent speed of Light (FDSL). In the present instalment, we “improve” on the model presented in the first instalment by dropping the assumption that the resultant pairs of these radio photons leave the shock front simultaneously. The new assumption of a non-simultaneous— albeit systematic—emission of these photon pairs allows us to obtain a much more convincing and stronger correlation in the time delay. This new correlation allows us to build a unified model for the four GRBs in our sample using a relative distance correction mechanism. The new unified model allows us to obtain as our most significant result a value for the frequency equivalence of the interstellar medium (ISM)’s conductance ν* ~ 1.500 ± 0.009 Hzand also an independent distance measure to the GRBs where we obtain for our four GRB samples an average distance of: ~69.40 ± 0.10, 40.00 ± 0.00, 58.40 ± 0.40, and 86.00 ± 1.00 Mpc, for GRB 030329, 980425, 000418 and 021004 respectively.

Using fireball networks to track more frequent reentries:Falcon 9 upperstage orbit determination from video recordings

On February 16,2021,an artificial object moving slowly over the Mediterranean was recorded by the Spanish Meteor Network(SPMN).Based on astrometric measurements,we identified this event as the reentry engine burn of a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle’s upper stage.To study this event in detail,we adapted the plane intersection method for near-straight meteoroid trajectories to analyze the slow and curved orbits associated with artificial objects.To corroborate our results,we approximated the orbital elements of the upper stage using four pieces of“debris”cataloged by the U.S.Government’s Combined Space Operations Center.Based on these calculations,we also estimated the possible deorbit hazard zone using the MSISE90 model atmosphere.We provide guidance regarding the interference that these artificial bolides may generate in fireball studies.Additionally,because artificial bolides will likely become more frequent in the future,we point out the new role that ground-based detection networks can play in the monitoring of potentially hazardous artificial objects in near-Earth space and in determining the strewn fields of artificial space debris.

Numerical Study on the Whole Process of Fireball Evolution in Strong Explosion

With the actual mean free path for radiation in air and a simplified nuclear device, a one-dimension simulation research on fireball phenomenon in a sea level atmosphere is carried out based on the multi-group radiation hydrodynamic codes(RDMG). It is shown that our theoretical calculations can describe the whole process of the fireball evolution for strong explosions from the early X-ray expansion stage to the shock wave propagation stage. The radius of the shock wave and the brightness of the fireball are in good agreement with the experimental results. The whole thermal radiation power curve of the fireball evolution for strong atmospheric explosion at sea level is plotted for the first time. The impact of radiation opacity of the nuclear device material on the early fireball phenomenon is also studied. It is found that trajectories of the radiation fronts and case shocks change with the opacity of equivalent device material.From our simulations, we find that only the early fireball depends on the details of the nuclear device, and after the formation of main shock, the evolution is determined by the properties of hot air for strong atmospheric explosion.

Perturbation solutions of relativistic viscous hydrodynamics for longitudinally expanding fireballs

The solutions of the relativistic viscous hydrodynamics for longitudinally expanding fireballs are investig-ated with the Navier-Stokes theory and Israel-Stewart theory.The energy and the Euler conservation equations for the viscous fluid are derived in Rindler coordinates,by assuming that the longitudinal expansion effect is small.Under the perturbation assumption,an analytical perturbation solution for the Navier-Stokes approximation and numerical solutions for the Israel-Stewart approximation are presented.The temperature evolution with both shear viscous ef-fect and longitudinal acceleration effect in the longitudinal expanding framework are presented.The specific temper-ature profile shows symmetric Gaussian shape in the Rindler coordinates.Further,we compare the results from the Israel-Stewart approximation with the results from the Bjorken and the Navier-Stokes approximations,in the pres-ence of the longitudinal acceleration expansion effect.We found that the Israel-Stewart approximation gives a good description of the early stage evolutions than the Navier-Stokes theory.

Pseudo-rapidity distributions of charged particles in asymmetric collisions using Tsallis thermodynamics

The pseudo-rapidity distributions of the charged particles produced in the asymmetric collision systems p+Al,p+Au and ^(3)He+Au at√S_(NN)=200 GeV GeV are evaluated in the framework of a fireball model with Tsallis thermodynamics.The fireball model assumes that the experimentally measured particles are produced by fireballs following the Tsallis distribution and it can effectively describe the experimental data.Our results as well as previous results for d+Au collisions at√S_(NN)=200 GeV GeV and p+Pb collisions at√S_(NN)=5.02 TeV TeV validate that the fireball model based on Tsallis thermodynamics can provide a universal framework for pseudo-rapidity distribution of the charged particles produced in asymmetric collision systems.We predict the centrality dependence of the total charged particle multiplicity in the p+Al,p+Au and 3He+Au collisions.Additionally,the dependences of the fireball model parameters(y_(0a),y_(0A),σ_(a) and σ_(A))on the centrality and system size are studied.

Generation scenarios of anodic structures and experimental realization of turbulence in unmagnetized plasma

In the present work,we report development of a DC glow discharge plasma(GDP)set-up to study controlled evolution of anodic structures having distinctive geometry,size and layers,generated in front of a positively biased electrode,submerged in unmagnetized plasma.For such an anodic structure,we have also investigated the condition under which the turbulence is triggered.Characteristic of these structures,generated in front of a positively biased electrode,depends on multiple parameters such as the ratio of anode to cathode size,electrode separation,gas pressure,biasing configuration such as anode bias,cathode bias and grounding schemes.We attempted to classify different anodic structures observed experimentally,as anode glow,fireball,anode spot,double layer and multiple double layers(MDLs)based on its physical characteristics.Among these structures the present investigation is focused on MDLs.The number of layers,observed in MDLs varied from as high as six to as low as zero,by controlling the operating discharge parameters,externally.Diagnostics were carried out using Langmuir probe.The analysis of floating potential fluctuations corresponds to a multiple anodic structure showed emergence of turbulence,at its critical stage,satisfying condition for self-organized criticality(SOC).This was identified with three slopes observed in the power spectrum,resembling the sand-pile model.Though,the GDP is completely different from that of the magnetically confined plasma,the nature of turbulence observed with SOC,is very similar to that observed in the scrape of layer of fusion devices.Therefore,the present investigation could provide new approach to study turbulence of similar nature,under an experimental condition that is free from the complexities of complicated field geometries used in confinement devices.
