Results indicate that sheep fleece in Jordan makes an excellent resource for buildings insulation material. A linear regression model is used to predict sheep number for the period (2017-2030). Based on the predicted number of Sheep an estimated annual average production of wool is found for the period (2017-2030) to be (3.586 × 103 ton). The average cost per kg of fleece produced is calculated to be 0.39 JD, and the estimated price of fleece per head, if market is available for raw fleece, is 1 JD. Average annual financial losses by farmers are calculated to be (3.743 × 106 JD) for the period 2002-2016, and they were estimated to be (9.421 × 106 JD) for the years 2017-2030. Physical characteristics of sheep-wool are presented and compared to other competitive insulation materials (polystyrene and rockwool). Sustainability of sheep-wool production to be utilized as an insulation material is found to be an excellent solution to the huge waste of wool with respect to farmers and National income and to the problems associated with environmental impact. Results can be generalized to similar cases worldwide.展开更多

[Method] By using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, the expression map of KAP6.1 gene in various tissues was analyzed, and then PCR-SSCP technology, cloning and sequencing were adopted to analyze the polymorphism of KAP6.1 gene in 693 Chinese merino sheep (Xinjiang Junken type), finally the correlation between KAPS. 1 gene and wool traits was discussed. [ Result] A high -level expression of KAP6.1 gene appeared in sheep skin, very significantly higher than that in muscle, small intestines, ovaries, hearts, lungs, livers, spleens, kidneys and rumen ( P 〈0.01 ). In addition, there was C159T base substitution in KAF6.1 gene sequence, and analysis of the least squares model showed that the mean wool fleece weight of BB genotype at C159T site was significantly higher than that of AA and AB genotype ( P 〈0.05), while there was no significant difference in average wool fiber diameter, curvature, length, clean fleece rate and density among hA, BB and AB genotype of KAP6.1 gene at C159T site (P〉0.05). [Conclusion] KAP6.1 gene could be as the candidate gene of wool yield of sheep, and BB genotype could be used as the important molecular marker of fine wool sheep for high wool yield.展开更多

This study was conducted to investigate the wool production and fleece characteristics of Arabi sheep in Khuzestan province The right mid-side wool samples were taken from 90 Arabi sheep (1 - 4 years;16 male and 74 female) by hand shearing. The staple length of shoulder, flank and rump were 13.18 ± 0.27, 13.31 ± 0.22 and 14.27 ± 0.25 cm, respectively. The greasy fleece weight, wool wax, vegetable matter, yield percentage, fiber diameter and its coefficient variation measures were 1.72 ± 0.06 Kg;2.77% ± 0.12%;0.54% ± 0.07%;73.36% ± 0.68%;30 ± 0.41 μm;30.23% ± 0.3% respectively. Correspondingly, the medulated fibers, true wool fiber and Kemp fibers were 21.6% ± 1.9%, 76.1% ± 2.04% and 2.5% ± 0.57% respectively. Age and sex had a significant influence on staple lengths. Fleece weight (P < 0.01) and wool wax were (P < 0.05) affected by sex. There was no significant interaction between age and sex groups for fiber characteristics, but it was important for staple between body location (P < 0.05). There were a low considerable kemp and CV of wool diameter percentage on Arabi sheep in comparison with the other Iranian native sheep. The wide variation in fleece weight (0.8 - 3.9 kg);mean staple lengths (8.8 - 19.2 cm);medulated and kemp (0 - 84.04 and 0% - 30.22%);fiber diameter (24.9 - 37.43 μm) suggest potential for improvement of economical traits.展开更多
