In this paper, the background, evolution, basic meaning, clinical application and the detail operating procedures of the differential insertion depth in filiform needle acupuncture were discussed based on the classica...In this paper, the background, evolution, basic meaning, clinical application and the detail operating procedures of the differential insertion depth in filiform needle acupuncture were discussed based on the classical expositions of the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine. It is believed that the differential insertion depth reflects the basic idea of expelling the evil Qi from the body in the application of traditional acupuncture. Since the site of evil invasion has different shades, the position of evil Qi and correct differentiation has become the operation key points of needle insertion. Apart from this, the Yellow Emperor’s Canon of Medicine has further associated the clinical application of filiform needle insertion depth with the seasonal change of Yin and Yang, the body built of the patients, the nature of the diseases, the heat or cold pathogenic factors of the illness, the excess and deficiency of the patient, and the reinforcing and reducing function of acupuncture. These elaborations have greatly enriched the basic content of acupuncture and laid a systematic theoretical foundation of filiform needle operation. The differential insertion depth in acupuncture has its specific meaning, the emphasis of insertion depth of filiform needle with its differentiated clinical implication exemplifies the perceptual thinking features of traditional acupuncture and typical reveals the uniqueness of Chinese civilization.展开更多

This paper attempts to analyze the application of PP (Politeness Principle) and its redressive strategies in Oprah Winfrey's Talk Show from the pragmatic perspective This paper employs two theories, the PP and its redressive strategies (especially redressive strategies). The analytical data for the present study are collected from Oprah Winfrey's Talk Show. In order to understand the PP and its redressive strategies better, this paper will analyze and investigate Oprah Winfrey's Talk Show from different perspectives by means of qualitative approach. The purpose of this study is the application of these two theories in the daily talk, and the analysis of how they do FTAs (Face-Threatening Acts). The success of Oprah Winfrey's Talk Show lies in her super language skill and her ability of dealing with some problems. In her talk show Oprah often adopts redressive strategy to save the guest's face and keep a congenial atmosphere. The author hopes that this study can help the audience better enjoy and understand talk show program, and maintain the stable and harmonious relationship in real human interaction. The analytical work in the present paper is just a tiny part of politeness, and it is hoped that further studies can be conducted to make more contributions to politeness展开更多
Based on μ-, T- and H-dependent pairing and number equations and the premise that μ(T) is predominantly the cause of the variation of the upper critical field H<sub>c</sub><sub>2</sub>(T), wh...Based on μ-, T- and H-dependent pairing and number equations and the premise that μ(T) is predominantly the cause of the variation of the upper critical field H<sub>c</sub><sub>2</sub>(T), where μ, T and H denote the chemical potential, temperature and the applied field, respectively, we provide in this paper fits to the empirical H<sub>c</sub><sub>2</sub>(T) data of H<sub>3</sub>S reported by Mozaffari, et al. (2019) and deal with the issue of whether or not H<sub>3</sub>S exhibits the Meissner effect. Employing a variant of the template given by Dogan and Cohen (2021), we examine in detail the results of Hirsch and Marsiglio (2022) who have claimed that H<sub>3</sub>S does not exhibit the Meissner effect and Minkov, et al. (2023) who have claimed that it does. We are thus led to suggest that monitoring the chemical potential (equivalently, the number density of Cooper pairs N<sub>s</sub> at T = T<sub>c</sub>) should shed new light on the issue being addressed.展开更多
