Exact scaling for the mean first-passage time of random walks on a generalized Koch network with a trap

In this paper, we study the scaling for the mean first-passage time （MFPT） of the random walks on a generalized Koch network with a trap. Through the network construction, where the initial state is transformed from a triangle to a polygon, we obtain the exact scaling for the MFPT. We show that the MFPT grows linearly with the number of nodes and the dimensions of the polygon in the large limit of the network order. In addition, we determine the exponents of scaling efficiency characterizing the random walks. Our results are the generalizations of those derived for the Koch network, which shed light on the analysis of random walks over various fractal networks.

Moments and Mean First—Passage Time of Parabolic—Bistable Potential System Driven by Colored Noise

A parabolic-bistable potential system driven by colored noise is studied. The exact analytical expressionsof the stationary probability distribution (SPD) and the moments of the system are derived. Furthermore, the meanfirst-passage time is calculated by the use of two approximate methods, respectively. It is found that (i) the double peaksof SPD are rubbed-down into a flat single peak with the increasing of noise intensity; (ii) a minimum occurs on the curve of the second-order moment of the system vs.noise intensity at the point DΓ=0.025;(iii)the results obtained by our approximate approach are in good agreement with the numerical calculations for either small or large correlation time Γ，while the conventional steepest descent apprximation leads to poor results.

Mean first-passage time of an asymmetric bistable system driven by colour-correlated noise

In this paper, the effect of every parameter （including p, q, r, λ, τ） on the mean first-passage time （MFPT） is investigated in an asymmetric bistable system driven by colour-correlated noise. The expression of MFPT has been obtained by applying the steepest-descent approximation. Numerical results show that （1） the intensity of multiplicative noise p and the intensity of additive noise q play different roles in the MFPT of the system, （2） suppression appears on the curve of the MFPT with small λ （e.g. λ 〈 0.5） but there is a peak on the curve of the MFPT when λ is big （e.g. λ 〉 0.5）, and （3） with different values of r （e.g. r = 0.1, 0.5, 1.5）, the effort of τ on the MFPT is diverse.

One-time fertilization at first flowering improves lint yield and dry matter partitioning in late planted short-season cotton

Cotton producers have substantially reduced their inputs(labor,nutrients,and management)mainly by adopting a shortseason cropping management that is characterized by late sowing,high density,and reduced fertilization with one-time application at the first bloom stage without lint yield reduction.However,it has been hypothesized that one-time fertilization at an earlier growth stage could be a more effective and economic management practice.A two-year field experiment was conducted by applying five fertilizer one-time fertilization at 0(FT1),5(FT2),10(FT3),15(FT4),and 20(FT5)days after the first flower appeared in the field and one three-split fertilizer application taken as the conventional control(FT6),making six treatments altogether.Cotton growth period,biomass accumulation,yield,and its formation were quantified.The results showed that the one-time fertilization did not affect the cotton growth progress as compared to FT6,however,the total crop cycles for FT3–FT5 were 3 days shorter.FT1 produced the highest cotton lint yield(1396 kg ha–1),which was similar to the FT6 but higher than the other treatments,and could be attributed to more bolls per unit area and higher lint percentage.Cotton yield was positively correlated with cotton plant biomass accumulated.FT1 had both the highest average(VT)(193.7 kg ha–1 d–1)and the highest maximum(VM)(220.9 kg ha–1 d–1)rates during the fast biomass accumulation period.These results suggest that one-time fertilizer application at the first flower stage might be an adjustment that is more effective than at first bloom,and allowed for easier decision making for application date due to non counting of plants with flowers is needed.

FIRST-PASSAGE TIME OF QUASI-NON-INTEGRABLE-HAMILTONIAN SYSTEM

Studies on first-passage failure are extended to the multi-degree-of-freedom quasi-non-integrable-Hamiltonian systems under parametric excitations of Gaussian white noises in this paper. By the stochastic averaging method of energy envelope, the system's energy can be modeled as a one-dimensional approximate diffusion process by which the classical Pontryagin equation with suitable boundary conditions is applicable to analyzing the statistical moments of the first-passage time of an arbitrary order. An example is studied in detail and some numerical results are given to illustrate the above procedure.

Consensus problems of first-order dynamic multi-agent systems with multiple time delays

Consensus problems of first-order multi-agent systems with multiple time delays are investigated in this paper. We discuss three cases： 1） continuous, 2） discrete, and 3） a continuous system with a proportional plus derivative controller. In each case, the system contains simultaneous communication and input time delays. Supposing a dynamic multi-agent system with directed topology that contains a globally reachable node, the sufficient convergence condition of the system is discussed with respect to each of the three cases based on the generalized Nyquist criterion and the frequency-domain analysis approach, yielding conclusions that are either less conservative than or agree with previously published results. We know that the convergence condition of the system depends mainly on each agent’s input time delay and the adjacent weights but is independent of the communication delay between agents, whether the system is continuous or discrete. Finally, simulation examples are given to verify the theoretical analysis.

Transient Properties of a Bistable System with Delay Time Driven by Non-Gaussian and Gaussian Noises:Mean First-Passage Time

The mean first-passage time of a bistable system with time-delayed feedback driven by multiplicativenon-Gaussian noise and additive Gaussian white noise is investigated.Firstly,the non-Markov process is reduced tothe Markov process through a path-integral approach;Secondly,the approximate Fokker-Planck equation is obtainedby applying the unified coloured noise approximation,the small time delay approximation and the Novikov Theorem.The functional analysis and simplification are employed to obtain the approximate expressions of MFPT.The effects ofnon-Gaussian parameter (measures deviation from Gaussian character) r,the delay time τ,the noise correlation timeτ_0,the intensities D and α of noise on the MFPT are discussed.It is found that the escape time could be reduced byincreasing the delay time τ,the noise correlation time τ_0,or by reducing the intensities D and α.As far as we know,thisis the first time to consider the effect of delay time on the mean first-passage time in the stochastic dynamical system.
