Comparing the RTD curves, inclusion separation, and the result of the streamline experiment, it can be found that the tundish equipped with weirs (dams) and a turbulence inhibitor has a great effect on the flow field and the inclusion separation when compared with the sole use or no use of the turbulent inhibitor or weirs (dams). In addition, the enlargement of the distance between the weir and dam will result in a better effect when the tundish equipped with weirs (dam) and a turbulence inhibitor was used.展开更多

Deposition of heavy organic components, especially asphaltene, can lead to wellbore blockage and impacts well economics due to reduction in oil production. Therefore, it is necessary to pay more attention to finding some solution to overcome this problem. In this study, a pipe-loop apparatus for investigation of oil stability was employed to measure deposition thickness using a thermal method. The effects of many factors such as oil type, oil temperature, oil velocity, inhibitors, and solvents on asphaltene deposition were investigated. The results showed that the deposition increased with the increasing value of the colloidal insta- bility index. Besides, the deposition thickness increased with the decreasing velocity of oil, but did not change with oil temperature. In addition, n-heptane could result in more deposition; however, toluene had no effect on the deposi- tion. Branched dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (Branched DBSA) and Linear DBSA as inhibitors decreased the rate of asphaltene deposition.展开更多

This paper details lessons learned from the successful field deployment of AA LDHI and proper implementation strategies used for 3 different practical fields as case studies in the Gulf of Mexico. From the 3 field experiences, the AA LDHI has been used to replace the conventional thermodynamic hydrate inhibitor due to its numerous benefits during steady state operations and transition operations where AA LDHI is injected prior to extended shut in and restart for fields producing at low water cut. However, the strategy to develop a cost effective chemical management of hydrates for fields producing at high water cut is by pumping methanol or diesel to push down the wellbore fluid below the mud line during planned and unplanned shut-ins to delay water production, it also secures the riser with non hydrate fluids. This illustrates how the AA LDHIs are used in conjunction with more conventional hydrate management approaches to reach an optimal cost effective field hydrate management solution. However, this shows that the key to overall success of hydrate prevention is a full integration of a good front end design, a comprehensive deployment and an effective down hole monitoring system.展开更多

In particular, the electrolyte composition will influence energy density, operating temperature range and the practical applications of the VRFB. Various approaches to increase the energy density and operating temperature range have been proposed. The presence of electrolyte impurities, or the addition of a small amount of other chemical species into the vanadium solution can alter the stability of the electrolyte and influence cell perfor- mance, operating temperature range, energy density, electrochemical kinetics and cost effectiveness. This review provides a detailed overview of research on electrolyte additives including stabilizing agents, im- mobilizing agents, kinetic enhancers, as well as electrolyte impurities and chemical reductants that can be used for different purposes in the VRFBs.展开更多

Specific inhibition of PARP-1 can induce synthetic lethality in irradiated cancer cells while theoretically leaving normal tissue unaffected. We recently demonstrated in a cell survival assay that lymphoblastoid cells with mono-allelic mutations of BRCA1 were hypersensitive to gamma radiation in the presence of the PARP-1 inhibitor Olaparib compared to normal cells and mono-allelic BRCA2 cells. To determine if the enhanced radiation sensitivity was due to a persistence of DNA strand breaks, we performed γ-H2AX foci analysis in cells derived from two normal individuals, three heterozygous BRCA1 and three heterozygous BRCA2 cell lines. Cells were exposed to 2 Gy gamma radiation in the presence or absence of 5 μM Olaparib. Using immunofluorescence and imaging flow cytometry, foci were measured in untreated cells and at 0.5, 3, 5 and 24 hours post-irradiation. In all lymphoblastoid cells treated with 2 Gy gamma radiation, there was a predictable induction of DNA strand breaks, with a modest but significant retention of foci over 24 hours in irradiated cells treated with Olaparib (ANOVA P < 0.05). However, in mono-allelic BRCA1 cells, there was a failure to fully repair DNA double-strand breaks (DSB) in the presence of Olaparib, evidenced by a significant retention of foci at 24 hours’ post irradiation (t-Test P These data show that the cellular hypersensitivity of mono-allelic BRCA1 lymphoblastoid cells to gamma radiation in the presence of the Olaparib is due to the retention of DNA DSB. These data may indicate that patients with inherited mutations in the BRCA1 gene treated with radiotherapy and PARP-1 inhibitors may experience elevated radiation-associated normal tissue toxicity.展开更多
