In this paper, combining Iwan's wake oscillator model with the differential equation derived for the dynamic response of submarine free spanning pipelines with inclusion of internal flow, the pipe-fluid coupling equations are developed to investigate the effect of internal flow on the vortex-induced vibration of the free spans. The finite element approximation is implemented to derive the matrix equations of equilibrium. The Newmark method combined with simple iteration is used to solve the system of equations. The results indicate that the internal fluid flow may cause the shift of resonance band to the lower frequency and a slight decrease in the peak value; the effect will be more pronounced with the increase of the span length and can be weakened in the presence of the axial tension.展开更多

The flow regime in a curved riser model and the response displacements of the riser were simultaneously recorded by high speed cameras. The gas superficial velocity ranges from 0.1 m/s to 0.6 m/s while the liquid superficial velocity from 0.06 m/s to 0.3 m/s.Severe slugging type 3, unstable oscillation flow and relatively stable slug flow were observed in the considered flow rates. Severe slugging type 3 characterized by premature gas penetration occurs at relatively low flow rates. Both the cycle time and slug length become shorter as the gas flow rate increases. The pressure at the riser base undergoes a longer period and larger amplitude of fluctuation as compared with the other two flow regimes. Additionally, severe slugging leads to the most vigorous in-plane vibration. However, the responses in the vertical and horizontal directions are not synchronized. The vertical vibration is dominated by the second mode while the horizontal vibration is dominated by the first mode. Similar to the vortex-induced vibration, three branches are identified as initial branch, build-up branch and descending branch for the response versus the mixture velocity of gas-liquid flow.展开更多

The coupling equations of a structural vibration model and wake oscillator model were solved using a standard central finite difference method of the second order. The VIV response characteristics including the structural displacement, structural frequency, structural wavenumber, standing wave behavior, travelling wave behavior, structural velocity, lift force coefficient and transferred energy from the fluid to the structure with different flow profiles were compared. The numerical results show that the VIV displacement is a combination of standing waves and travelling waves. For linear shear flow, standing waves and travelling waves dominate the VIV response within the low-velocity and high-velocity zones, respectively. The negative values of the transferred energy only occur within the low-velocity zone. However, for exponential shear flow, travelling waves dominate the VIV response and the negative energy occurs along the entire length of the cylinder.展开更多

The phenomenon of vortex-induced vibrations of the cylinder near the rigid plane boundary is reproduced in the flume. The vortex shedding frequency and mode are also measured by the methods of hot film velocimeter and hydrogen bubbles. A parametric study is carded out to investigate the influences of reduced velocity, gap-to-diameter ratio, stability parameter and mass ratio on the amplitude and frequency responses of the cylinder. Experimental results indicate: (1) the Strouhal number (St) is around 0.2 for the stationary cylinder near a plane boundary in the sub-criti- cal flow regime; (2) with increasing gap-to-diameter ratio (eo/D), the amplitude ratio (A/D) gets larger but frequency ratio (f/fn) has a slight variation for the case of larger values of eo/D(eo/D 〉 0.66 in this study); (3) there is a clear difference of amplitude and frequency responses of the cylin- derbetween the larger gap-to-diameter ratios (e0/D 〉 0.66) and the smaller ones (e0/D 〈 0.3); (4) the vibration of the cylinder is easier to occur and the range of vibration in terms of Vr number becomes more extensive with decrease of the stability parameter, but the frequency response is affected slightly by the stability parameter; (5) with decreasing mass ratio, the width of the lock-in ranges in terms of Vr and the frequency ratio (f/fn) become larger.展开更多

Long slender cylinders such as risers and tension legs are widely used in the field of ocean engineering. They are subjected to vortex-induced vibrations(VIV) when placed within a transverse incident flow. A three dimensional model coupled with wake oscillators is formulated to describe the response of the slender cylinder in cross-flow and in-line directions. The wake oscillators are distributed along the cylinder and the vortex-shedding frequency is derived from the local current velocity. A non-linear fiuid force model is accounted for the coupled effect between cross-flow and in-line vibrations. The comparisons with the published experimental data show that the dynamic features of VIV of long slender cylinder placed in shear flow can be obtained by the proposed model, such as the spanwise average displacement, vibration frequency, dominant mode and the combination of standing and traveling waves. The simulation in a uniform flow is also conducted and the result is compared with the case of nonuniform flow. It is concluded that the flow shear characteristic has significantly changed the cylinder vibration behavior.展开更多

The numerical results obtained by the two-way fluid–structure interaction(FSI) simulations are in good agreement with the experimental results reported in the earlier study. It is further found that the frequency transition is out of phase not only in the inline(IL) and crossflow(CF) directions but also along the span direction. The mode competition leads to the non-zero nodes of the rootmean-square(RMS) amplitude and the relatively chaotic trajectories. The fluid–structure interaction is to some extent reflected by the transverse velocity of the ambient fluid, which reaches the maximum value when the riser reaches the equilibrium position. Moreover, the local maximum transverse velocities occur at the peak CF amplitudes, and the values are relatively large when the vibration is in the resonance regions. The 3 D vortex columns are shed nearly parallel to the axis of the curved flexible riser. As the local Reynolds number increases from 0 at the bottom of the riser to the maximum value at the top, the wake undergoes a transition from a two-dimensional structure to a 3 D one. More irregular small-scale vortices appeared at the wake region of the riser, undergoing large amplitude responses.展开更多

The electro-magnetic control of vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a circular cylinder in the shear flow was investigated numerically in the exponential-polar coordinates attached on the moving cylinder for Re=150. With the effect of background vorticity, the vortex street of VIV cylinder was composed of two parallel rows with an opposite sign of the vortices which inclines toward the lower side and the strength of upper vortex is larger than that of lower vortex. The lift force vibrated periodically with the effect of vortex shedding and the mean value was negative due to the background vorticity. The Lorentz force for controlling the VIV cylinder was classified into the field Lorentz force and the wall Lorentz force. The field Lorentz force suppresses the lift oscillation, and in turn, suppresses the VIV, whereas the wall Lorentz force increases the lift.展开更多

The typical phenomenon of the two-degree-of-freedom cylinder's VIV is discussed. The influences of initial gap between the cylinder and the wall on the dynamic responses of the cylinder are analyzed. The comparison is made about dynamic responses of the cylinder with one and two degrees of freedom. Experimental results show that the vibration of the cylinder near a deformable wall with a small value of initial gap-to-diameter ratios can generally be divided into two phases. The initial gap-to-diameter ratios have a noticeable influence on the occurrence of transverse vibration. The transverse maximum amplitude of the cylinder with two degrees of freedom is larger than that of the cylinder with one degree of freedom under the condition with the same values of other parameters. However, the vibration frequency of the cylinder for the two degrees of freedom case is smaller than that for the one degree of freedom case at the same value of Vr number展开更多

文摘In this study, the vortex-induced vibrations of a cylinder near a rigid plane boundary in a steady flow are studied experimentally. Experimental results indicate: (1) the Strouhal number (St) is around 0.2 for the stationary cylinder near a plane boundary in the sub-criti- cal flow regime; (2) with increasing gap-to-diameter ratio (eo/D), the amplitude ratio (A/D) gets larger but frequency ratio (f/fn) has a slight variation for the case of larger values of eo/D(eo/D 〉 0.66 in this study); (3) there is a clear difference of amplitude and frequency responses of the cylin- derbetween the larger gap-to-diameter ratios (e0/D 〉 0.66) and the smaller ones (e0/D 〈 0.3); (4) the vibration of the cylinder is easier to occur and the range of vibration in terms of Vr number becomes more extensive with decrease of the stability parameter, but the frequency response is affected slightly by the stability parameter; (5) with decreasing mass ratio, the width of the lock-in ranges in terms of Vr and the frequency ratio (f/fn) become larger.

文摘A time domain model is presented to study the vibrations of long slender cylinders placed in shear flow. It is concluded that the flow shear characteristic has significantly changed the cylinder vibration behavior.

文摘A series of fully three-dimensional(3 D) numerical simulations of flow past a free-to-oscillate curved flexible riser in shear flow were conducted at Reynolds number of 185–1015. More irregular small-scale vortices appeared at the wake region of the riser, undergoing large amplitude responses.

文摘Pipe-in-pipe(PIP)structures are widely used in offshore oil and gas pipelines to settle thermal insulation issues.A PIP structure system usually consists of two concentric pipes and one softer layer for thermal insulation consideration. The total response of the system is related to the dynamics of both pipes and the interactions between these two concentric pipes. In the current work,a theoretical model for flow-induced vibrations of a PIP structure system is proposed and analyzed in the presence of an internal axial flow and an external cross flow. The interactions between the two pipes are modeled by a linear distributed damper,a linear distributed spring and a nonlinear distributed spring along the pipe length. The unsteady hydrodynamic forces due to cross flow are modeled by two distributed van der Pol wake oscillators. The nonlinear partial differential equations for the two pipes and the wake are further discretized by the aid of Galerkin’s technique, resulting in a set of ordinary differential equations. These ordinary differential equations are further numeri cally solved by using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration algorithm.Phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams,an Argand diagram and oscillation shape diagrams are plotted, showing the existence of a lock-in phenomenon and figure-of-eight trajectory. The PIP system subjected to cross flow displays some interesting dynamical behaviors different from that of a single-pipe structure.

文摘Vortex street flowmeter has been used in steady flow measurement for about three decades The benefits of this type of flowmeter include high accuracy, good linearty, wide measuring range, and excellent reliability However,in unsteady flow measurement, the pressure disturbance as well as the noise from the system or surrounding can reduce the signal to noise ratio of the flowmeter seriously Aimed to use vortex street flowmeters in unsteady flow measurement, the characteristics of the vortex shedding induced hydrodynamic vibration around the prism bluff body in a vortex street flowmeter are investigated numerically and by expriments The results show that the hydrodynamic vibrations with 180° phase shift occur at the axisymmetric points of the channel around the bluff body The most intense vibration occurs at the points on the lateral faces close to the base of the prism The results provide therefore a useful reference for developing an anti interference vortex flowmeter using the different ial sensing technique.

文摘In this work, we study the coupled cross-flow and in-line vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a fixedly mounted flexible pipe, which is free to move in cross-flow ( Y- ) and in-line ( X- ) direction in a fluid flow where the mass and natural frequencies are precisely the same in both X- and Y-direction. The fluid speed varies from low to high with the corresponding vortex shedding frequency varying from below the first natural frequency to above the second natural frequency of the flexible pipe. Particular emphasis was placed on the investigation of the relationship between in-line and cross-flow vibration. The experimental results analyzed by using these measurements exhibits several valuable features.

文摘The flow of the weak electrolyte solution can be controlled by Lorentz force achieved with the suitable magnetic and electric fields, and it has the advantages of vortex street suppression, drag reduction, lift enhancement and oscillatory suppression for the flow over a bluff body. The field Lorentz force suppresses the lift oscillation, and in turn, suppresses the VIV, whereas the wall Lorentz force increases the lift.

文摘The behavior of vortex-induced vibration of a two-degree-of-freedom cylinder near a deformable wall in steady flow is investigated experimentally. However, the vibration frequency of the cylinder for the two degrees of freedom case is smaller than that for the one degree of freedom case at the same value of Vr number

文摘An experimental investigation on the disturbance effect of jet-type active vibration suppression device on vortexinduced vibration of deep-sea riser was carried out in the wave-flow combined flume. The vibration suppression device was designed in which the jet pipe was horizontally fixed to the front end of the riser.By varying three different excitation spacings and multi-stage outflow velocities, the influence law of the dominant frequency, dimensionless displacement and other dynamic response parameters was studied under different excitation spacings, and the mechanism and sensitive characteristics of the disturbance suppression were explored. The results indicate that the variation of excitation spacing makes gas curtain enter the strong disturbed flow region at different velocities and angles, and the coupling relationship between excitation spacing and reduced velocity is the key factor to enter the strong disturbed flow region to achieve the optimal disturbance suppression. In the strong disturbed flow region, the influence of gas curtain on the dominant frequency is obviously affected by the flow velocity, while the vibration displacement is stable at the same amplitude and is weakly affected by the flow velocity.Gas curtain can effectively disturb the formation of vortex shedding, destroy the strong nonlinear coupled vibration of the riser, and achieve better vibration suppression effect. In the weak disturbed flow region, the vortex length of the riser tail is prolonged, the strong nonlinear coupled vibration of the riser is gradually restored, and the vibration suppression effect of the device gradually decreases.

文摘High-speed airflow in wind tunnel tests usually causes dramatic vibration of ejector structure, which may lead to fatigue and even destruction of the wind tunnel. Therefore, analyzing and solving the flow-induced vibration problem is a tough and indispensable part of the wind tunnel security design. In this paper, taking a kind of two-stage ejector as the study object, multiple numerical simulation methods are adopted in order to carry out research on the analysis technique of the flow-induced vibration characteristics of ejector structure.Firstly, the structural dynamics characteristic is analyzed by using the ejector structural dynamics numerical model, which is built on the basis of finite element method.Secondly, the complex flow phenomenon is explored applying numerical fluid-dynamics model of the inner flow field of the ejector, which is constructed on the basis of finite volume method. Finally, based on the two numerical models above, the vibration response of the ejector structure induced by the high-speed airflow is computed via the fluid-solid coupling technique. The comparison of the simulation results with the actual vibration test indicates that these numerical simulation methods can accurately figure out the rule of flow-induced vibration of ejectors.

文摘Vortex-induced vibration(VIV)for flexible cylinders under combined uniform and oscillatory flow is a challenging and practical issue in ocean engineering. In this paper,a time domain numerical model is adopted to investigate the characteristics of cross-flow VIV response and fatigue damage under different combined flow cases.Firstly, the adopted VIV model and fatigue analysis procedure are validated well against the published experimental results of a4-m cylinder model under pure oscillatory flows.Then,forty-five combined flow cases of the same cylinder model are designed to reveal the VIV response characteristics with different non-dimensional oscillation period T^*and combined ratio r.The combined flow cases are classified into three categories to investigate the effect of r on cylinder’s dynamic response, and the effect of T*is described under long and short period cases. Finally, fatigue analysis is carried out to investigate how the structural fatigue damage varies with the variations of r and T^*.The captured characteristics of structural response and fatigue damage are explained through the VIV mechanism analysis.

文摘The dynamic behaviors of a horizontal piping structure with an elbow due to the two-phase flow excitation are experimentally investigated. The effects of flow patterns and superficial velocities on the pressure pulsations and vibration responses are evaluated in detail.A strong partition coupling algorithm is used to calculate the flow-induced vibration(FIV)responses of the pipe, and the theoretical values agree well with the experimental results. It is found that the lateral and axial vibration responses of the bend pipe are related to the momentum flux of the two-phase flow, and the vibration amplitudes of the pipe increase with an increase in the liquid mass flux. The vertical vibration responses are strongly affected by the flow pattern, and the maximum response occurs in the transition region from the slug flow to the bubbly flow. Moreover, the standard deviation(STD)amplitudes of the pipe vibration in three directions increase with an increase in the gas flux for both the slug and bubbly flows. The blockage of liquid slugs at the elbow section is found to strengthen the vibration amplitude of the bend pipe, and the water-blocking phenomenon disappears as the superficial gas velocity increases.
