The influence of variable viscosity and double diffusion on the convective stability of a nanofluid flow in an inclined porous channel is investigated. The DarcyBrinkman model is used to characterize the fluid flow dynamics in porous materials. The analytical solutions are obtained for the unidirectional and completely developed flow.Based on a normal mode analysis, the generalized eigenvalue problem under a perturbed state is solved. The eigenvalue problem is then solved by the spectral method. Finally, the critical Rayleigh number with the corresponding wavenumber is evaluated at the assigned values of the other flow-governing parameters. The results show that increasing the Darcy number, the Lewis number, the Dufour parameter,or the Soret parameter increases the stability of the system, whereas increasing the inclination angle of the channel destabilizes the flow.Besides, the flow is the most unstable when the channel is vertically oriented. 展开更多

This study investigates the impact of pore network characteristics on fluid flow through complex and heterogeneous porous media, providing insights into the factors affecting fluid propagation in such systems.Specifically,high-resolution or micro X-ray computed tomography(CT)imaging techniques were utilized to examine outcrop stromatolite samples of the Lagoa Salgada, considered flow analogous to the Brazilian Pre-salt carbonate reservoirs. The petrophysical results comprised two distinct stromatolite depositional facies, the columnar and the fine-grained facies.By generating pore network model(PNM),the study quantified the relationship between key features of the porous system, including pore and throat radius, throat length, coordination number, shape factor, and pore volume. The study found that the less dense pore network of the columnar sample is typically characterized by larger pores and wider and longer throats but with a weaker connection of throats to pores. Both facies exhibited less variability in the radius of the pores and throats in comparison to throat length.Additionally,a series of core flooding experiments coupled with medical CT scanning was designed and conducted in the plug samples to assess flow propagation and saturation fields. The study revealed that the heterogeneity and presence of disconnected or dead-end pores significantly impacted the flow patterns and saturation.Two-phase flow patterns and oil saturation distribution reveal a preferential and heterogeneous displacement that mainly swept displaced fluid in some regions of plugs and bypassed it in others. The relation between saturation profiles, porosity profiles, and the number of fluid flow patterns for the samples was evident.Only for the columnar plug sample was the enhancement in recovery factor after shifting to lower salinity water injection(SB)observed. 展开更多

Strong impact does serious harm to the military industries so it is necessary to choose reasonable cushioning material and design effective buffers to prevent the impact of equipment.Based on the capillary property entangled porous metallic wire materials(EPMWM),this paper designed a composite buffer which uses EPMWM and viscous fluid as cushioning materials under the low-speed impact of the recoil force device of weapon equipment(such as artillery,mortar,etc.).Combined with the capillary model, porosity, hydraulic diameter, maximum pore diameter and pore distribution were used to characterize the pore structure characteristics of EPMWM.The calculation model of the damping force of the composite buffer was established. The low-speed impact test of the composite buffer was conducted. The parameters of the buffer under low-speed impact were identified according to the model, and the nonlinear model of damping force was obtained. The test results show that the composite buffer with EPMWM and viscous fluid can absorb the impact energy from the recoil movement effectively, and provide a new method for the buffer design of weapon equipment(such as artillery,mortar,etc.). 展开更多

In-situ stress is a common stress in the exploration and development of oil reservoirs. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the propagation characteristics of borehole acoustic waves in fluid-saturated porous media under stress.Based on the acoustoelastic theory of fluid-saturated porous media, the field equation of fluid-saturated porous media under the conditions of confining pressure and pore pressure and the acoustic field formula of multipole source excitation in open hole are given. The influences of pore pressure and confining pressure on guided waves of multipole borehole acoustic field in fluid-saturated porous media are investigated. The numerical results show that the phase velocity and excitation intensity of guided wave increase significantly under the confining pressure. For a given confining pressure, the phase velocity of the guided wave decreases with pore pressure increasing. The excitation intensity of guided wave increases at low frequency and then decreases at high frequency with pore pressure increasing, except for that of Stoneley wave which decreases in the whole frequency range. These results will help us get an insight into the influences of confining pressure and pore pressure on the acoustic field of multipole source in borehole around fluid-saturated porous media. 展开更多

In this work, we numerically study the laminar mixed convection of fluid flow in a vertical channel filled with porous media during the drying process. The porous medium, modeled as a vertical wall, consists of solid and nanofluid phase (Water-Al2O3 or Water-Cu), as well as a gas phase. The established model is developed based on Whitaker’s theory and resolved by our numerical code using Fortran. Results principally show the influence of various physical parameters, such as nanoparticle volume fraction, ambient temperature, and saturation on heat and mass transfer on the drying process. This study brings the effect of the presence of nanofluids in porous media. It contributes not only to our fundamental understanding of drying processes but also provides practical insights that can guide the development of more efficient and sustainable drying technologies. . 展开更多

Recent advances in deep neural networks have shed new light on physics, engineering, and scientific computing.Reconciling the data-centered viewpoint with physical simulation is one of the research hotspots. The physicsinformedneural network(PINN)is currently the most general framework, which is more popular due to theconvenience of constructing NNs and excellent generalization ability. The automatic differentiation(AD)-basedPINN model is suitable for the homogeneous scientific problem;however,it is unclear how AD can enforce fluxcontinuity across boundaries between cells of different properties where spatial heterogeneity is represented bygrid cells with different physical properties. In this work,we propose a criss-cross physics-informed convolutionalneural network(CC-PINN)learning architecture, aiming to learn the solution of parametric PDEs with spatialheterogeneity of physical properties. To achieve the seamless enforcement of flux continuity and integration ofphysicalmeaning into CNN,a predefined 2D convolutional layer is proposed to accurately express transmissibilitybetween adjacent cells. The efficacy of the proposedmethodwas evaluated through predictions of several petroleumreservoir problems with spatial heterogeneity and compared against state-of-the-art(PINN)through numericalanalysis as a benchmark, which demonstrated the superiority of the proposed method over the PINN. 展开更多

The hybrid convective boundary layer circulation involving multiple nanofluids via a medium with pores is approaching a sloping plate. An investigation regarding the heat-generating effects upon the examined nanofluid flows has been carried out through computational analysis. A mathematical framework employing governing differential equations that are partial has been implemented to produce an ensemble of ordinary differential equations, which happen to be nonlinear that incorporate nanofluid flows by utilizing acceptable transformations. Through the combination of the Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting method and the Runge-Kutta method, the group of resulting non-dimensionalized equations is solved computationally. In a few special, confined cases, the corresponding numeric output is thereafter satisfactorily matched with the existing available research. The consequences of heat generation regarding local skin friction coefficient and rate of heat in conjunction with mass transfer have been investigated, evaluated, and reported on the basis of multiple nanofluid flows. 展开更多

This study investigates the flow and heat transfer of dusty Williamson (MHD) Nanofluid flow over a stretching permeable cylinder in a porous medium. Dusty Williamson Nanofluid was considered due to its thermal properties and potential benefits of increasing the heat transfer rate. Firstly, partial differential equations are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations through a similarity variables transformation. The resulting set of dimensionless equations is solved analytically by using the Homogony Perturbation Method (HPM). The effects of the emerging parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are publicized through tables and graphs with appropriate discussions. The present result has been compared with published papers and found to be in agreement. To the best of author’s knowledge, there has been sparse research work in the literature that considers the effect of dust with Williamson Nanofluid and also solving the problem analytically. Therefore to the best of author’s knowledge, this is the first time analytical solution has been established for the problem. The results revealed that the fluid velocity of both the fluid and dust phases decreases as the Williamson parameter increases. Motivated by the above limitations and the gaps in past works, therefore, it is hoped that the present work will assist in providing accurate solutions to many practical problems in science, industry and engineering. 展开更多

In this paper, the effects of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation on the stagnation–point flow of a micropolar fluid over a permeable stretching sheet with suction and injection are analyzed and discussed.A suitable similarity transformation is used to convert the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically by a fourth–order Runge–Kutta method. It is found that the linear fluid velocity decreases with the enhancement of the porosity, boundary, and suction parameters.Conversely,it increases with the micropolar and injection parameters. The angular velocity grows with the boundary, porosity, and suction parameters, whereas it is reduced if the micropolar and injection parameters become larger. It is concluded that the thermal boundary layer extension increases with the injection parameter and decreases with the suction parameter. 展开更多

Bioderived carbon materials have garnered considerable interest in the fields of microwave absorption and shielding due to their reproducibility and environmental friendliness. In this study,KOH was evenly distributed on biomass Tremella using the swelling induction method, leading to the preparation of a three-dimensional network-structured hierarchical porous carbon(HPC)through carbonization. The achieved microwave absorption intensity is robust at-47.34 dB with a thin thickness of 2.1 mm.Notably, the widest effective absorption bandwidth, reaching 7.0 GHz(11–18 GHz),is attained at a matching thickness of 2.2 mm.The exceptional broadband and reflection loss performance are attributed to the 3D porous networks, interface effects, carbon network defects, and dipole relaxation.HPC has outstanding absorption characteristics due to its excellent impedance matching and high attenuation constant. The uniform pore structures considerably optimize the impedance-matching performance of the material, while the abundance of interfaces and defects enhances the dielectric loss, thereby improving the attenuation constant.Furthermore, the impact of carbonization temperature and swelling rate on microwave absorption performance was systematically investigated. This research presents a strategy for preparing absorbing materials using biomass-derived HPC,showcasing considerable potential in the field of electromagnetic wave absorption. 展开更多

Relaxation and diffusion measurements were carried out on single and binary liquids filling the pore space of controlled porous glass Vycor with an average pore size of about 4 nm.The dispersion of the longitudinal relaxation time Tr is discussed as a means to identify liquid-surface interaction based on existing models developed for metal-free glass surfaces. In addition, the change of T1 and T2 with respect to their bulk values is discussed,in particular T2 serves as a probe for the strength of molecular interactions. As the native glass surface is polar and contains a large amount of hydroxyl groups,a pronounced interaction of polar and protic adsorbate liquids is expected;however, the T dispersion, and the corresponding reduction of T2,are also observed for non-polar liquids such as alkanes and cyclohexane.Deuterated liquids are employed for simplifying data analysis in binary systems, but also for separating the respective contributions of intra-and intermolecular interactions to the overall relaxation rate.Despite the lack of paramagnetic impurities in the glass material,H and 2H relaxation dispersions of equivalent molecules are frequently found to differ from each other, suggesting intermolecular relaxation mechanisms for the'H nuclei. The variation of the T dispersion when comparing single and binary systems gives clear evidence for the preferential adsorption of one of the two liquids, suggesting complete phase separation in several cases.Measurement of the apparent tortuosity by self-diffusion experiments supports the concept of a local variation of sample composition within the porespace. 展开更多

The field data of shale fracturing demonstrate that the flowback performance of fracturing fluid is different from that of conventional reservoirs, where the flowback rate of shale fracturing fluid is lower than that of conventional reservoirs. At the early stage of flowback, there is no single-phase flow of the liquid phase in shale, but rather a gas-water two-phase flow, such that the single-phase flow model for tight oil and gas reservoirs is not applicable. In this study, pores and microfractures are extracted based on the experimental results of computed tomography(CT)scanning, and a spatial model of microfractures is established. Then, the influence of rough microfracture surfaces on the flow is corrected using the modified cubic law, which was modified by introducing the average deviation of the microfracture height as a roughness factor to consider the influence of microfracture surface roughness. The flow in the fracture network is simulated using the modified cubic law and the lattice Boltzmann method(LBM).The results obtained demonstrate that most of the fracturing fluid is retained in the shale microfractures, which explains the low fracturing fluid flowback rate in shale hydraulic fracturing. 展开更多

With the growth of deep drilling and the complexity of the well profile, the requirements for a more complete and efficient exploitation of productive formations increase, which increases the risk of various complications.Currently, reagents based on modified natural polymers(which are naturally occurring compounds)and synthetic polymers(SPs)which are polymeric compounds created industrially, are widely used to prevent emerging complications in the drilling process. However, compared to modified natural polymers,SPs form a family of high-molecular-weight compounds that are fully synthesized by undergoing chemical polymerization reactions.SPs provide substantial flexibility in their design. Moreover, their size and chemical composition can be adjusted to provide properties for nearly all the functional objectives of drilling fluids. They can be classified based on chemical ingredients, type of reaction, and their responses to heating. However, some of SPs,due to their structural characteristics, have a high cost,a poor temperature and salt resistance in drilling fluids, and degradation begins when the temperature reaches 130℃.These drawbacks prevent SP use in some medium and deep wells. Thus, this review addresses the historical development, the characteristics, manufacturing methods, classification, and the applications of SPs in drilling fluids. The contributions of SPs as additives to drilling fluids to enhance rheology, filtrate generation, carrying of cuttings, fluid lubricity, and clay/shale stability are explained in detail. The mechanisms, impacts, and advances achieved when SPs are added to drilling fluids are also described. The typical challenges encountered by SPs when deployed in drilling fluids and their advantages and drawbacks are also discussed.Economic issues also impact the applications of SPs in drilling fluids.Consequently, the cost of the most relevant SPs,and the monomers used in their synthesis, are assessed.Environmental impacts of SPs when deployed in drilling fluids, and their manufacturing processes are identified, together with advances in SP-treatment methods aimed at reducing those impacts.Recommendations for required future research addressing SP property and performance gaps are provided. 展开更多

To study the damage to an elastic cylinder immersed in fluid, a model of an elastic cylinder wrapped with a porous medium immersed in fluid is designed. This structure can both identify the properties of guided waves in a more practical model and address the relationship between the cylinder damage degree and the surface and surrounding medium. The principal motivation is to perform a detailed quantitative analysis of the longitudinal mode and flexural mode in an elastic cylinder wrapped with a porous medium immersed in fluid. The frequency equations for the propagation of waves are derived each for a pervious surface and an impervious surface by employing Biot theory. The influences of the various parameters of the porous medium wrapping layer on the phase velocity and attenuation are discussed. The results show that the influences of porosity on the dispersion curves of guided waves are much more significant than those of thickness, whereas the phase velocity is independent of the static permeability. There is an apparent “mode switching” between the two low-order modes. The characteristics of attenuation are in good agreement with the results from the dispersion curves. This work can support future studies for optimizing the theory on detecting the damage to cylinder or pipeline. 展开更多

This paper aims to propose a topology optimization method on generating porous structures comprising multiple materials. The mathematical optimization formulation is established under the constraints of individual volume fraction of constituent phase or total mass,as well as the local volume fraction of all phases. The original optimization problem with numerous constraints is converted into a box-constrained optimization problem by incorporating all constraints to the augmented Lagrangian function, avoiding the parameter dependence in the conventional aggregation process.Furthermore, the local volume percentage can be precisely satisfied. The effects including the globalmass bound, the influence radius and local volume percentage on final designs are exploited through numerical examples. The numerical results also reveal that porous structures keep a balance between the bulk design and periodic design in terms of the resulting compliance. All results, including those for irregular structures andmultiple volume fraction constraints, demonstrate that the proposedmethod can provide an efficient solution for multiple material infill structures. 展开更多

The evaluation of reservoir quality was accomplished on the Late Paleocene to Early Eocene Narimba Formation in Bass Basin,Australia. This study involved combination methods such as petrophysical analysis, petrography and sedimentological studies, reservoir quality and fluid flow units from derivative parameters, and capillary pressure and wetting fluid saturation relationship.Textural and diagenetic features are affecting the reservoir quality.Cementation, compaction, and presence of clay minerals such as kaolinite are found to reduce the quality while dissolution and secondary porosity are noticed to improve it.It is believed that the Narimba Formation is a potential reservoir with a wide range of porosity and permeability.Porosity ranges from 3.1%to 25.4%with a mean of 15.84%,while permeability ranges between 0.01 mD and 510 mD,with a mean of 31.05 mD.Based on the heterogenous lithology, the formation has been categorized into five groups based on permeability variations.Group I showed an excellent to good quality reservoir with coarse grains. The impacts of both textural and diagenetic features improve the reservoir and producing higher reservoir quality index(RQI)and flow zone indicators(FZI)as well as mostly mega pores. The non-wetting fluid migration has the higher possibility to flow in the formation while displacement pressure recorded as zero.Group II showed a fair quality reservoir with lower petrophysical properties in macro pores. The irreducible water saturation is increasing while the textural and digenetic properties are still enhancing the reservoir quality.Group III reflects lower quality reservoir with mostly macro pores and higher displacement pressure. It may indicate smaller grain size and increasing amount of cement and clay minerals.Group IV,and V are interpreted as a poor-quality reservoir that has lower RQI and FZI.The textural and digenetic features are negatively affecting the reservoir and are leading to smaller pore size and pore throat radii(r35)values to be within the range of macro,meso-,micro-,and nano pores. The capillary displacement pressure curves of the three groups show increases reaching the maximum value of 400 psia in group V.Agreement with the classification of permeability,r35 values, and pore type can be used in identifying the quality of reservoir. 展开更多

This work examines the flow of a micropolar fluid over a vertical porous plate at the MHD stagnation point under viscous dissipation, convective boundary conditions, and thermal radiation. The governing partial differential equations and a set of similarity parameters were used to transform them into ordinary differential equations. The Runge-Kutta fourth-order algorithm is used in conjunction with the Newton Raphson shooting technique to numerically solve the generated self-similar equations. Results were tabulated both numerically and graphically, and examples for different controlling factors are quantitatively analyzed. According to the study, the vortex viscosity parameter (k) causes the velocity profiles to rise while the magnetic parameter, suction parameter, and radiation parameter cause them to fall. In contrast, as the flow’s suction and prandtl values rise, so do the magnetic parameter, radiation, and vortex viscosity, while the thickness of the thermal boundary layer decreases. . 展开更多

Due to a prolonged operation time and low mass transfer efficiency, the primary challenge in the aeration process of non-Newtonian fluids is the high energy consumption, which is closely related to the form and rate of impeller, ventilation, rheological properties and bubble morphology in the reactor. In this perspective, through optimal computational fluid dynamics models and experiments, the relationship between power consumption, volumetric mass transfer rate(kLa) and initial bubble size(d0) was constructed to establish an efficient operation mode for the aeration process of non-Newtonian fluids. It was found that reducing the d0could significantly increase the oxygen mass transfer rate, resulting in an obvious decrease in the ventilation volume and impeller speed. When d0was regulated within 2-5 mm,an optimal kLa could be achieved, and 21% of power consumption could be saved, compared to the case of bubbles with a diameter of 10 mm. 展开更多
