Systematizing Teacher Development:A Review of Foreign Language Teacher Learning

Foreign language teaching practice is developing rapidly,but research on foreign language teacher learning is currently relatively fragmented and unstructured.The book Foreign Language Teacher Learning,written by Professor Kang Yan from Capital Normal University,published in September 2022,makes a systematic introduction to foreign language teacher learning,which to some extent makes up for this shortcoming.Her book presents the lineage of foreign language teacher learning research at home and abroad,analyzes both theoretical and practical aspects,reviews the cuttingedge research results,and foresees the future development trend,painting a complete research picture for researchers in the field of foreign language teaching and teacher education as well as front-line teachers interested in foreign language teacher learning.This is an important inspiration for conducting foreign language teacher learning research in the future.And this paper makes a review of the book from aspects such as its content,major characteristics,contributions and limitations.

Colonoscopy-assisted removal of an impaction foreign body at the rectosigmoid junction: A case report

BACKGROUND When an anorectal foreign body is found,its composition and shape should be evaluated,and a timely and effective treatment plan should be developed based on the patient's symptoms to avoid serious complications such as intestinal perforation caused by displacement of the foreign body.CASE SUMMARY A 54-year-old male was admitted to our outpatient clinic on June 3,2023,due to a rectal foreign body that had been embedded for more than 24 h.The patient reported using a glass electrode tube to assist in the recovery of prolapsed hemorrhoids,however,the electrode tube was inadvertently inserted into the anus and could not be removed by the patient.During hospitalization,the patient underwent surgery,and the foreign body was dragged into the rectum with the aid of colonoscopy.The anus was dilated with a comb-type pulling hook and an anal fistula pulling hook to widen the anus and remove the foreign body,and the local anal symptoms were then relieved with topical drugs.The patient was allowed to eat and drink,and an entire abdominal Computed tomography(CT)and colonoscopy were reviewed 3 d after surgery.CT revealed no foreign body residue and colonoscopy showed no metal or other residues in the colon and rectum,and no apparent intestinal tract damage.CONCLUSION The timeliness and rationality of the surgical and therapeutic options for this patient were based on a literature review of the clinical signs and conceivable conditions in such cases.The type,material and the potential risks of rectal foreign bodies should be considered.

Specialization or Diversification:Which is More Conducive to Foreign Trade Resilience?Evidence from China-Russia Border Regions in Northeast China

Under the background of complex international situation,how to build the special geo-economic space of China-Russia bor-der lies in strengthening their foreign trade resilience against external shocks.Based on empirical evidence from ten prefecture-level China-Russia border regions in Northeast China,this paper analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of foreign trade resilience under different shocks.Furthermore,through the Panel Regression model,the mechanism of the industrial structure on the foreign trade resilience in contraction period and expansion period was discussed.The results showed that:1)from 2004 to 2021,foreign trade in China-Russia border regions experienced five phases.The overall foreign trade resilience was higher than expected,showing a rising volatility trend,but there was significant spatial heterogeneity in the ability of cities to cope with shocks.2)Highly specialized clusters were mainly concentrated in Yichun,Heihe and Da Hinggan Ling Prefecture,while Mudanjiang and Yanbian performed better in related and unrelated diversification.3)In different stages of economic system evolution,the response mode,degree and result of border foreign trade resilience to regional industrial structure showed obvious stage characteristics.During the contraction period,related diversification was more conducive to improving the resistance through risk spillovers.During the expansion period,specialization played a more significant role in improving regional resilience through self-reinforcing effect.These results are beneficial for expanding the resilience theory,ensuring border economic security and optimizing border industrial investment layout.

Nasal congestion caused by long-term retention of a nasal foreign body near the orbit:A case report

BACKGROUND Nasal trauma presents a risk of foreign body invasion into the nasal cavity.However,in the early treatment stage of nasal trauma,patients and doctors are not always aware of possible foreign body invasion,resulting in delayed detection.We describe the case of an adult patient admitted to the hospital due to left nasal congestion accompanied by yellow,purulent,and bloody discharge.CASE SUMMARY Consultation with the patient revealed a history of nasal trauma 30 years prior that did not receive thorough examinations and imaging during treatment,resulting in a glass fragment retained in the nasal cavity adjacent to the orbit.After admission,computerized tomography(CT)confirmed the presence of the foreign body in the patient’s left nasal–maxillary sinus.The nasal foreign body led to symptoms such as chronic sinusitis,nasal polyps,fungal infection,and deviated nasal septum.The foreign body was successfully removed by nasal endoscopy,polypectomy,sinus fungal removal,left middle turbinate conchoplasty,fenestration via the right inferior meatus,nasal endoscopic maxillary sinus cystectomy,and septolplasty.The operation was successful and without any complications.CONCLUSION CT scans should be performed in addition to necessary debridement sutures to avoid possible foreign body invasion during nasal trauma.Surgical planning should be tailored to the patient’s specific situation.The surgical method should be carefully selected,and sufficient preparation should be undertaken before the surgery to avoid possible displacement of the nasal foreign body.

Management of Vulnating Esophageal Foreign Bodies in Burkina Faso

Introduction: Esophageal foreign bodies (EFB) are a diagnostic and therapeutic emergency because of the serious complications they can cause. Aim: This paper aimed to study the vulnating esophageal foreign bodies in the ENT and Head and Neck Surgery departments of the Yalgado Ouedraogo and Bogodogo University Hospital. Methodology: This was an analytic cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection over 10 years (2012-2021). Results: We collected 91 cases of vulnating esophageal foreign bodies, i.e. 9.1 cases/year (4.7%). The mean age of the patients was 14 ± 19 years. The sex ratio was 1.6. The circumstances of occurrence were dominated by accidental ingestion of vulnating esophageal foreign bodies (98.9%). The average time to consultation was 7.5 hours. Dysphagia was the dominant symptom (64.8%). Cervico-thoracic radiography found dual contour radiopaque images in 71.4%. Esophagoscopy with rigid tube was performed in 97.8%. The average time for extraction of the vulnating esophageal foreign bodies was 8 hours. Vulnerating esophageal foreign bodies were non-organic in 84.6%. The button cell represented 64.8%. Their location was cervical in 61.5% intraoperatively. The lesion assessment found ulcerative lesions in 42.9% (p Conclusion: Vulnating esophageal foreign bodies are relatively frequent in our ENT practice. Although their diagnosis is often easy, their treatment is still difficult and requires multidisciplinary management. Thus, for us, prevention remains the first effective weapon.

Impact of geopolitical risk,GDP,inflation,interest rate,and trade openness on foreign direct investment:Evidence from five Southeast Asian countries

Historically,geopolitical risk(GPR)has posed significant challenges to international economic,social,and political frameworks.This study investigated how internal GPR in the selected five Southeast Asian countries(Indonesia,South Korea,Malaysia,the Philippines,and Thailand)influences foreign direct investment(FDI)during 1996-2019.The stationarity of the data was assessed using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller(ADF)unit root test,which shows that the data became stationary after the first difference.The Kao,Pedroni,and Westerlund cointegration tests were employed to examine long-term cointegration among the selected variables(FDI,GPR index(GPRI),gross domestic product(GDP),inflation,interest rate,and trade openness(TOP)).The results indicated that these variables have a long-term cointegration.Consequently,regression analysis using the Pooled Ordinary Least Squares(OLS)regression,fixed effect,random effect,Arellano-Bond dynamic panel-data estimation,and system generalized moment method(GMM)revealed that GPRI and TOP negatively impacted FDI in the selected five Southeast Asian countries.At the same time,GDP,inflation,and interest rate positively influenced FDI in these countries.Because FDI is crucial to shaping a country’s macroeconomic structure,this study recommends that governments and central banks of the selected five Southeast Asian countries should implement policies and strategies to encourage foreign investments.

An Empirical Study on Foreign Language Majors’Needs for Ideological and Political Education Elements in Chinese Universities

The paper takes 2076 undergraduate students majoring in foreign languages from 15 Chinese universities as the research subjects to investigate their demand for ideological and political education elements in foreign language courses.The results show that:(1)Students have high needs for ideological and political education elements in foreign language courses;(2)There are differences in students’needs for ideological and political education elements across different dimensions.Students have higher demand for dimensions such as personal qualities,cultural literacy,moral cultivation,and patriotism,while their demand for dimensions related to constitutional law and political identity is relatively low.Therefore,foreign language majors in Chinese universities should optimize the supply of ideological and political education elements in their courses according to students’needs,and improve the effectiveness of moral education in these courses.

罗汉果苷V调控高糖状态巨噬细胞M1极化促进骨髓间充质干细胞的成骨分化

背景:糖尿病微环境会造成巨噬细胞过度M1极化,这种高糖炎症状态会抑制骨髓间充质干细胞的成骨分化,从而影响糖尿病骨缺损的愈合。研究表明罗汉果苷Ⅴ具有抗炎、抗氧化、降血糖的作用,但其能否调节高糖炎症状态下巨噬细胞M1极化及骨髓间充质干细胞的成骨分化尚不清楚。目的:探讨罗汉果苷Ⅴ在高糖炎症状态下调节巨噬细胞M1型极化对骨髓间充质干细胞成骨分化的影响。方法:构建糖尿病C57BL/6小鼠模型,从正常和糖尿病小鼠分离骨髓来源巨噬细胞,分别培养于低糖和高糖培养基。使用脂多糖和干扰素γ作为炎症刺激诱导骨髓来源巨噬细胞的M1型极化,同时以160,320,640μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ干预,用流式细胞术检测F4/80^(+)CD86^(+)细胞比例,qRT-PCR检测诱导型一氧化氮合酶、白细胞介素1β、白细胞介素6的mRNA表达水平,ELISA检测骨髓来源巨噬细胞上清液中肿瘤坏死因子α水平。分离C57BL/6小鼠骨髓间充质干细胞,分别使用低糖或高糖成骨诱导液诱导成骨分化,添加M1型巨噬细胞条件培养基作为炎症刺激,以及320μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ干预,成骨诱导14 d后采用qRT-PCR检测碱性磷酸酶、Runt相关因子2、骨钙素、骨桥蛋白的mRNA表达水平,成骨诱导21 d后进行茜素红染色及定量分析。结果与结论:①流式细胞术结果显示320,640μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ组的F4/80^(+)CD86^(+)细胞比例明显低于高糖炎症对照组(P<0.05);②qRT-PCR结果显示160,320,640μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ组的诱导型一氧化氮合酶、白细胞介素6的mRNA相对表达量较高糖炎症对照组显著降低(P<0.05),320,640μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ组白细胞介素1β的mRNA相对表达量较高糖炎症对照组显著降低(P<0.05);③ELISA结果显示160,320,640μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ组的肿瘤坏死因子α分泌水平较高糖炎症对照组显著降低(P<0.05);④320μmol/L罗汉果苷Ⅴ干预后,高糖炎症状态下骨髓间充质干细胞的钙盐沉积增加(P<0.05),且碱性磷酸酶、Runt相关因子2和骨桥蛋白的mRNA相对表达量增加(P<0.05)。结果表明,罗汉果苷Ⅴ可通过抑制高糖炎症状态下骨髓来源巨噬细胞的M1型极化及炎症因子表达,促进骨髓间充质干细胞的成骨分化。

Let’s Talk LGBTQIA+:Strategies and Activities for Teaching Diversity and Inclusion in the Foreign Language Classroom at the College Level

In this presentation,the author explores strategies and activities that create a welcoming and nurturing environment for LGBTQIA+foreign language students at the college level in the United States.Indeed,as it is commonly stated,there is a clear lack of visibility,acceptance/tolerance,and inclusion of LGBTQIA+voices(active and proactive)in foreign language teaching and learning(pedagogical material as well as in-class attitudes and delivery).The reasons for this deficiency are diverse since they cover not only outward discrimination against and/or indifference(passive-aggressive behavior)toward the LGBTQIA+community and its plight,but they also illustrate the sheer,physical inexistence of quality material that can be used to create,present,and foster a welcoming and all-encompassing classroom environment that addresses the diverse spectrum of the LGBTQIA+community while its members try to learn a foreign language and(positively)negotiate how to express their very identity in their new language of choice.Moreover,the scant material that is available in the United States as well as in other Western countries where the LGBTQIA+community by and large is accepted-at least from the legal point of view-hardly represents and covers the subject matter in a satisfactory way.To address this gap,the author will provide some examples in European Portuguese(EP)and Italian(IT),followed by a courtesy translation in English,to illustrate some positive activities and strategies for including LGBTQIA+-related subject matter in the foreign language classroom at the college level.It is his desire that instructors of other foreign languages duplicate in their respective vernaculars the strategies and activities herein presented in order to create a welcoming and safe classroom environment that embraces the LGBTQIA+community as it goes through the enjoyable journey of learning a new language and culture.

An Empirical Study on Students’Evaluation of Moral Education in Foreign Language Education in China

Students’evaluation of moral education is of great significance for improving the quality of teaching.Through a survey of 2715 undergraduates majoring in foreign languages,this paper analyzes their evaluation of the moral education.Findings show that students speak highly of teachers’competence in moral education,teaching methods and the integration of moral education in the textbooks,but not in the course assessment and the overall effect of moral education.Suggestions were proposed accordingly to improve moral education of foreign language education in China.

Furtherance and Shaping:On the Media-Making of Hankow in the“Foreign Newspaper Era”(1866-1900)

“The Era of Foreign Newspapers”refers to the period from the emergence of the first modern newspaper in Hankow in 1866 to 1900 when Wuhan’s newspaper industry was dominated by foreign newspapers.The well-known foreign newspapers in Wuhan during this period mainly included Hankow Times,The New Edition of Tan Dao,and Han Bao.The subjective purpose of foreigners’early endeavors of running newspapers in Wuhan was mainly to use newspapers to convey business information,spread religion,or influence public opinion in order to safeguard their own interests in China.However,foreign newspapers in this period played a constructive role in the development of Wuhan’s local society:It gave birth to the emergence and development of the first private and official newspapers in Wuhan and shaped the local social,cultural,and political changes in Wuhan in the late Qing Dynasty.Sorting out and explaining the constructive influence of Hankow’s foreign newspaper in this period has certain significance for restoring the social and political landscape of Wuhan at that time and better understanding the context of historical development.

M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体促进小胶质细胞M2型极化

背景:目前对于M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体的研究多集中于促进伤口愈合及成骨细胞的增殖和分化,而很少有研究关注其对小胶质细胞表型的调控作用。目的:探讨M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体对于小胶质细胞的表型调控作用及分子机制。方法:①提取骨髓原代巨噬细胞,用50 ng/m L白细胞介素4刺激巨噬细胞24 h促进巨噬细胞M2型极化,流式细胞术和细胞免疫荧光鉴定M2型巨噬细胞标志物CD206;②提取和鉴定M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体;③将小胶质细胞BV2随机分为3组:对照组、脂多糖组、治疗组,对照组不做处理,脂多糖组加入500 ng/m L脂多糖干预24 h,治疗组同时加入500 ng/m L脂多糖和25μg/m L M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体干预24 h,ELISA检测培养上清中肿瘤坏死因子α和白细胞介素10的分泌量,q RT-PCR检测细胞中诱导型一氧化氮合酶、精氨酸酶1、白细胞介素1β和白细胞介素10的m RNA表达,Western blot检测诱导型一氧化氮合酶、精氨酸酶1的蛋白表达以及核因子κB信号通路相关蛋白表达。结果与结论:①ELISA结果显示,与对照组相比,脂多糖组肿瘤坏死因子α分泌明显增多;与脂多糖组相比,治疗组肿瘤坏死因子α的分泌减少而白细胞介素10的分泌增多;②q RT-PCR结果显示,与对照组相比,脂多糖组白细胞介素1β、诱导型一氧化氮合酶m RNA表达升高;与脂多糖组相比,治疗组白细胞介素1β、诱导型一氧化氮合酶m RNA表达降低,白细胞介素10、精氨酸酶1 m RNA表达升高;③Western blot结果显示,与对照组相比,脂多糖组诱导型一氧化氮合酶蛋白表达升高;与脂多糖组相比,治疗组诱导型一氧化氮合酶蛋白表达降低,而精氨酸酶1蛋白表达升高;(4)与对照组相比,脂多糖组核因子κB信号通路中P65、p-IκB-α蛋白表达降低;与脂多糖组相比,治疗组P65、p-IκB-α蛋白表达升高。结果表明:M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体可以显著抑制脂多糖诱导小胶质细胞的炎症反应,促进抗炎因子白细胞介素10的表达,抑制促炎因子肿瘤坏死因子α、白细胞介素1β的表达,促进小胶质细胞表型由M1型向M2型极化,其机制可能与M2型巨噬细胞衍生外泌体抑制核因子κB信号通路激活有关。

The Application of the Domestication and Foreignization Translation Strategies in the Context of the Dissemination of Chinese Culture:A Case Study of the English Translation of Long

In January 2024,the Chinese Year of the Loong,how to translate the Chinese character Long went viral on the Internet.Taking the English translation of Long as an example,this study tends to make a tentative analysis of the application of translation strategies in the macro context of the dissemination of Chinese culture.Moreover,it probes into the phenomenon of Chinese cultural aphasia by analyzing the domestication and foreignization of Long in three aspects.The three attitudes provided ought to be addressed in the Chinese-English translations.This study emphasizes enhancing translators’cultural awareness and their cultural confidence in the process of translating the source language to the target language.

Research Nexus and Implications of Learner Identity in Foreign Language Education

One of the most obvious markers of an individual’s identity is their language.However,in some ways,the relationship between identity and language acquisition seems to be missed.In fact,a lot of studies have shown that identity may influence the reasons behind language acquisition,especially in bilingual or multilingual societies.Learning English can provide EFL(English as a Foreign Language)students with a good sense of identity and encourage them to practice their agency,which can improve learning efficiency and effectiveness.This paper examines how the efficacy and results of language learning are influenced by the learner’s identity.

Research on Foreign Language Talent Cultivation Mode Based on the Concept of Language Security

Language security is an important part of national security,and in the current complex international environment,the issue of language security is becoming more and more prominent and has become an unignorable part of national security strategy.As the bridge and link of international communication,foreign language talents’language skills and the level of national security awareness directly affect our country’s international image and the effect of international communication.Therefore,the establishment of a foreign language talent cultivation mode based on the concept of language security is not only an important way to improve the quality of foreign language education but also a realistic need to safeguard national security and promote international exchanges.Starting from the influence of the language security concept on foreign language talent cultivation,this paper analyzes the foreign language talent cultivation mode based on the language security concept,with a view to providing new ideas and methods for the development of foreign language education.

Combined laparoscopic and endoscopic method for foreign body removal from descending colon: A case report

BACKGROUND The majority of published reports on foreign bodies(FBs)involve the rectum and applied a transanal retrieval.Usually,patients with FB above the rectum are subjected to laparotomy for removal.Here,we illustrate the case of a man with an FB that had migrated into the descending colon,and its successful removal via a laparoscopic approach.CASE SUMMARY A 43-year-old man,who had the habit of FB insertion into his anus to aid defe-cation,presented upon experience of such an FB slipping through and migrating upward to the distal colon.Plain abdominal radiograph revealed a bottle-shaped FB,positioned in the left iliac fossa region.The FB was successfully removed via a laparoscopic-assisted procedure in which we combined diagnostic laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques during surgery.The patient was monitored for 2 d postoperatively and subsequently discharged home.CONCLUSION A minimally invasive approach should be adopted to aid extraction of colorectal FB as it is effective and safe.

Research on the Status Quo and Improvement Needs of Foreign Language Teachers’ Teaching Competence in Curriculum-Based Ideological Education in Xinjiang Colleges and Universities

This study investigated the status quo and further improvement needs of foreign language teachers’teaching competence in curriculum-based ideological education(CIE)in Xinjiang colleges and universities.The results show that the teachers’teaching competence in CIE is generally good,with the“cultivating quality”being the highest and the“scientific research quality”the lowest;there still exist several problems,such as teachers’lack of theoretical knowledge in CIE,lack of teaching resources,and insufficient abilities in teaching design and research.It is hoped that with the support and efforts from university administrations,teachers can improve their teaching competence in CIE through various approaches adopted and multiple measures taken,thus optimizing their teaching effectiveness,promoting the construction of CIE in Xinjiang colleges and universities in the new era,and contributing to Xinjiang’s high-quality development.
