Possible reasons for the observed interannual variability are also discussed. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) More water clouds occur on the Atlantic side, and more ice clouds occur over continents.(2)The average spatial and seasonal distributions of cloud types show three patterns: high clouds and most cumuliform clouds are concentrated in low-latitude locations and peak in summer;altostratus and nimbostratus are concentrated over and around continents and are less abundant in summer;stratocumulus and stratus are concentrated near the inner Arctic and peak during spring and autumn.(3) Regional averaged interannual frequencies of ice clouds and altostratus clouds significantly decrease, while those of water clouds, altocumulus, and cumulus clouds increase significantly.(4) Significant features of the linear trends of cloud frequencies are mainly located over ocean areas.(5) The monthly water cloud frequency anomalies are positively correlated with air temperature in most of the troposphere, while those for ice clouds are negatively correlated.(6) The decrease in altostratus clouds is associated with the weakening of the Arctic front due to Arctic warming, while increased water vapor transport into the Arctic and higher atmospheric instability lead to more cumulus and altocumulus clouds.展开更多

This paper investigates the scattered field distributions of different incident waves created by elastic cylinders embedded in an elastic isotropic medium. Scattered waves, including longitudinal and transverse waves both inside and outside the cylinder, are described with specific modalities under an incident plane wave. A model with a scatterer embedded in a structural steel matrix and filled with aluminum is developed for comparison with the theoretical solution. The frequency of the plane wave ranged from 235 kHz to 2348 kHz, which corresponds to scaling factors from 0.5 to 5. Scattered field distributions in matrix materials blocked by an elastic cylindrical solid have been obtained by simulation or calculated using existing parameters. The simulation results are in good agreement with the theoretical solution, which supports the correctness of the simulation analysis. Furthermore, ultrasonic phased arrays are used to study scattered fields by changing the characteristics of the incident wave. On this foundation, a partial preliminary study of the scattered field distribution of double cylinders in a solid has been carried out, and the scattered field distribution at a given distance has been found to exhibit particular behaviors at different moments. Further studies on directivities and scattered fields are expected to improve the quantification of scattered images in isotropic solid materials by the phased array technique.展开更多

Liquid saturation in individual channels was measured by using self-made micro-conductivity probes. A mal-distribution factor was used to evaluate uniform degree of phase distribution in monoliths. Overall bed pressure drop and mass transfer coefficients were measured. For liquid flow distribution and gas-liquid masstransfer, it is found that the superficial liquid velocity is a crucial factor and the packed bed distributor is better than the nozzle distributor. A semi-theoretical analysis using single channel models shows that the packed bed distributor always yields shorter and uniformly distributed liquid slugs compared to the nozzle distributor, which in turn ensures a better mass transfer performance. A bed scale mass transfer model is proposed by employing the single channel models in individual channels and incorporating effects of non-uniform liquid distribution along the bedcross-section. The model predicts the overall gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient wig a relative error within +30%.展开更多

Wave records of different nature are used for comparison. These are surface fluctuations acquired during wind wave flume experiments, representing wave generation under strong wind; and wave records measured in the northern part of Taiwan for waves in natural environments. Three probability models, the unifrom distribution, the beta distribution, and a model from Tayfun and Lo (1989) are adopted to study the possible distributions of wave phases. It is found that when surface elevations become skewed, wave phases deviate from the usually assumed uniform distribution and a better model would be the beta distribution.展开更多

Compared with other quantum key distribution protocols, the differential phase shift quantum key distribution protocol has higher efficiency and simpler apparatus. Unfortunately, the uncondi- tional security of differential phase shift quantum key distribution has not been proved. Utilizing the sharp continuity of the von Neuman entropy and some basic inequalities, we estimate the upper bound for the eavesdropper Eve's infor- mation. We then prove the lower bound for the security of the differential phase shift quantum key distribution protocol against a one-pulse attack with Devatak-Winter's secret key rate formula.展开更多

The experimental distributor mainly consists of a straight through section,a gas extraction line,a liquid extraction line and a side arm branch. A gas orifice and a liquid orifice are mounted at the gas and liquid extraction line respectively to control the outlet gas quality. The diameter of the liquid orifice was set to 2. 50 mm and three gas orifices with different size( dG= 2. 65,5. 00,10. 00 mm) were tested. The experiments were carried out at an air-water two-phase flow loop. The gas superficial velocity ranged from 6. 0 to 20. 0 m /s and the liquid superficial velocity was in the range of 0. 02- 0. 18 m /s. Flow patterns such as wave flow, slug flow and annular flow were observed. The gas quality of the side arm branch was found mainly determined by the flow area ratio of the gas orifice to the liquid orifice and independent of gas and liquid superficial velocity, flow patterns and extraction flux.展开更多

There is always a trade-off between sensing and transmission time which has been addressed fully in the literature. There is also some missed idle times during the waiting phase when secondary user finds the channel busy. Therefore, the longer the transmission time is, the higher the successfully delivered bits would be and the higher the missed idle times in the waiting stage would be expected. In this work, we formulate these missed idle times to addressed this trade-off. Furthermore, interference due to PU re-occupancy is modelled in successful transmitted time and in collision probability. Moreover, we derive secondary user's packet delay distribution using phase type model at which retransmission due to collision results from both sensing error and PU re-occupancy is considered. Thanks to derived delay distribution, any statistical moments of delay could be found as a closed form mathematical expression. These moments can be used as constraints for applications with delay sensitive packets. Numerical results are given to clarify the network metrics. Finally, the optimized values for sensing and transmission time are computed using genetic algorithm in order to maximize access efficiency.展开更多

文摘The hysteresis of gas-liquid mass transfer rate and the corresponding radial liquiddistribution in a trickle bed reactor are measured to provide evidence for the correlation between thesetwo behaviors.Experimental results indicate that the hysteresis of gas-liquid mass transfer originatesfrom the nonuniformity of the hydrodynamic state of gas-liquid flow and the radial maldistributionof local kgia corresponds very well to the radial maldistribution of liquid flow in the bed.The localliquid flow rate is also found to be nonuniform in the azimuthal direction. In view of maldistributedliquid flow even in the pulsing flow regime, the conventional plug flow model seems oversimplifiedfor describing the behavior of a trickle bed.
文摘Probability distributions of wave phases in association with distributions of surface elevations are studied with wave records. It is found that when surface elevations become skewed, wave phases deviate from the usually assumed uniform distribution and a better model would be the beta distribution.
文摘The quantum phase properties of the generalized squeezed vacuum states associated with solvable quantum systems are studied by using the Pegg-Barnett formalism. Then, two nonclassical features,i.e.,squeezing in the number and phase operators,as well as the number-phase Wigner function of the generalized squeezed states are investigated.Due to some actual physical situations, the present approach is applied to two classes of generalized squeezed states:solvable quantum systems with discrete spectra and nonlinear squeezed states with particular nonlinear functions. Finally, the time evolution of the nonclassical properties of the considered systems has been numerically investigated.

文摘Quantum key distribution is the art of sharing secret keys between two distant parties, and has attracted a lot of attention due to its unconditional security. We then prove the lower bound for the security of the differential phase shift quantum key distribution protocol against a one-pulse attack with Devatak-Winter's secret key rate formula.

文摘A retarding field energy analyzer(RFEA) is used to measure the time-averaged ion energy distributions(IEDs) on the substrate in both continuous wave(CW) and synchronous pulse modulated radio-frequency(RF) inductively coupled Ar plasmas(ICPs).The effects of the phase shift θ between the RF bias voltage and the RF source on the IED is investigated under various discharge conditions. It is found that as θ increases from 0 to π,the IED moves towards the low-energy side, and its energy width becomes narrower. In order to figure out the physical mechanism, the voltage waveforms on the substrate are also measured. The results show that as θ increases from 0 to π,the amplitude of the voltage waveform decreases and, meanwhile, the average sheath potential decreases as well.Specifically, the potential drop in the sheath on the substrate exhibits a maximum value at the same phase(i.e.,θ = 0) and a minimum value at the opposite phase(i.e.,θ = π).Therefore, when ions traverse across the sheath region above the substrate, they obtain less energies at lower sheath potential drop, leading to lower ion energy.Besides,as θ increases from π to 2π,the IEDs and their energy widths change reversely.

文摘In order to eliminate mal-distribution and ensure the side arm to produce desirable gas quality a special distributor is proposed. The gas quality of the side arm branch was found mainly determined by the flow area ratio of the gas orifice to the liquid orifice and independent of gas and liquid superficial velocity, flow patterns and extraction flux.

文摘Gaussian models without intermittency are extensively used in estimating the effect of turbulence, but italso brings some puzzles, for example the observed pulse shape that disagrees with the result of the standard theoryof interstellar scintillations.Indeed the property of intermittency is inherent in turbulence,i.e.,all the quantities thatcharacterize it suffer from strong fluctuations. So it is necessary to consider turbulent intermittency in many applications. In this paper we propose a non-Gaussian phase screen, which obeys log-Poisson statistics, and also offers the correspondingpoint spread function(PSF).These results describe that intermittency leads to the more extent and different directionaldistribution of PSF.Theoretical analysis is made under the hypothesis of the phase difference satisfying log-Poissonstatistics,and the average point spread function, which accord qualitatively with the result of the above generated phasescreen,is derived.

文摘Experiments were carried out to investigate the liquid flow distribution at high gas/liquid ratios in a cold model monolith bed of a 0.048 m diameter with 62 cells per cm2.Three types of distributor for the liquid distribu-tion were used to evaluate their distribution performance.Local liquid saturation in individual channels was meas-ured using 16 single-point optical fiber probes mounted inside the channels. The results indicate that 1) The optical fiber probe technique can measure phase distribution in the monolith bed;2) Liquid saturation distribution along the radial direction of the monolith bed is not uniform and the extent of non-uniformity depends on the distributor de-sign and phase velocities;and 3) The tube array distributor provides superior liquid distribution performance over the showerhead and nozzle distributors.

文摘Many studies have been done in cognitive radios to maximize the network efficiency. Finally, the optimized values for sensing and transmission time are computed using genetic algorithm in order to maximize access efficiency.
