Observation of therapeutic effect of lamp irradiation combined with purple gromwell oil gauze on alleviating intestinal colic in patients

BACKGROUND Intestinal colic is a common complication in patients who have undergone radical surgery for colorectal cancer.Traditional Chinese medicine has advantages,including safety and stability,for the treatment of intestinal colic.Lamp irra-diation for abdominal ironing has been applied in the treatment of many gas-trointestinal diseases.Purple gromwell oil has the effects of clearing heat,cooling blood,reducing swelling,and relieving pain.RESULTS The general effective rate in the observation group was 95.00%,which was significantly higher than that in the control group(86.67%,P<0.05).Before treatment,there was no significant difference in the duration of symptoms between the groups(P>0.05).After 1,2,3,and 4 d of treatment,the duration of symptoms in both groups were decreased,and the duration in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(96.54±9.57 vs 110.45±11.23,87.26±12.07 vs 104.44±11.68,80.45±16.21 vs 99.44±14.95,73.18±15.58 vs 92.17±14.20;P<0.05).After 1,3,5,and 7 d of treatment,the NRS scores in both groups were decreased,and the NRS scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(3.56±0.41 vs 4.04±0.58,3.07±0.67 vs 3.74±1.02,2.52±0.76 vs 3.43±0.85,2.03±0.58 vs 3.03±0.82;P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the rate of adverse reaction occurrence between the groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION The use of lamp irradiation combined with purple gromwell oil gauze in patients with intestinal colic after radical surgery for colorectal cancer can reduce symptom duration,alleviate intestinal colic,and improve treatment efficacy,and this approach is safe.It is worth promoting the use of this treatment in clinical practice.

Laparoscopic management of hydatid cysts using long ribbon gauze:An initial experience of 37 consecutive cases

Objective:The laparoscopic approach is becoming the standard of care for many surgical disorders.However,in the case of hydatid cysts,laparoscopic management is challenging due to the risk of spillage of hydatid fluid,which can cause an anaphylactic reaction and recurrence.Here,we report our initial experience with laparoscopic partial pericystectomy of hydatid cysts using long ribbon gauze to decrease intra-operative spillage.Method:This was a retrospective study(between January 2010 and December 2021)in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology,Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science,a tertiary care referral center in northern India.Here,we have included 37 consecutive patients with hydatid cysts of the liver and spleen.Diagnosis was made by laboratory and imaging findings(abdominal sonography or contrast enhanced CT scans).All patients were managed with laparoscopic partial pericystectomy.Intraoperatively,a betadine-soaked long ribbon gauze,high-pressure suction canula,and an endo-bag were used in all patients.The collected data included patient demography,location,size,and number of cysts,WHO type,operative time,blood loss,postoperative complications,hospital stay and follow-up.Result:In our series,the mean age was 38.4±13.6 years,15(40.5%)were men and 22(59.5%)were women.The right lobe of the liver was the most commonly affected site(21,56.8%).The mean operative time was 80.0±32.0 min,and intraoperative blood loss was 23.6±11.5 mL.Bile leak was present in 6(16.2%)patients.There was no mortality.The hospital stay was 5(3,9)days,and no recurrence was observed at a median follow-up of 36 months.Conclusion:Laparoscopic partial pericystectomy using this technique is safe in the management of hydatid cysts.Simply,proper packing and safe removal of soaked gauzes can minimize the incidence of postoperative complications and recurrence.

The Application Value of Sanitary Wipes and Medical Alcohol+Gauze Disinfection Method in the Management and Use of Medical Equipment

Objective:To analyze the effect of sanitary wipes and medical alcohol+gauze disinfection methods on the management and use of medical equipment in hospitals.Methods:From February 2023 to August 2023,80 anorectal surgery medical instruments and equipment were randomly sampled as observation samples,and they were grouped using the random number table method(40 instruments in each group).One group was managed with sanitary wipes and medical alcohol+gauze disinfection method(observation group),and the other group was managed with medical alcohol+gauze disinfection method(control group).The degree of contamination on the surface of instruments and equipment and the staff satisfaction of both groups was noted and compared.Results:After cleaning and disinfection,the relative luminescence luminosity(RLU)value of the surface contamination of the sample instruments and equipment decreased significantly(P<0.05);and after cleaning and disinfection,the relative luminescence luminosity(RLU)of the observation group’s instruments and equipment decreased significantly,and the value was lower than that of the control group,(P<0.05);the results of the nursing job satisfaction questionnaire showed that the scores of each survey item in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,(P<0.05).Conclusion:Integrating sanitary wipes and medical alcohol+gauze disinfection method into the management and use of medical equipment not only improves the disinfection of medical instruments but also improves the job satisfaction of nursing staff.Therefore,this method should be popularized.

Effect of uterine water bag + gauze packing on coagulation function and stress response of patients with postpartum hemorrhage

Objective:To study the effect of uterine water bag + gauze packing on coagulation function and stress response of patients with postpartum hemorrhage.Methods: Patients who gave birth and had postpartum hemorrhage in the hospital between June 2014 and May 2017 were chosen as the research subjects and divided into the combined group who received uterine water bag + gauze packing hemostasis, the control group 1 who received uterine water bag hemostasis and the control group 2 who received gauze packing hemostasis. The overall clinical efficacy was observed, and the serum levels of blood coagulation function indexes and stress response indexes were determined before treatment and after hemostatic treatment.Results: The intraoperative blood loss, postoperative blood loss and the change of hemoglobin before treatment and after hemostatic treatment of combined group were less than those of control group 1 and control group 2;compared with those of same group before treatment, serum APTT and PT levels as well as FDP, ET-1, ANG-II, ALD, NE, E, TNF-α, IL-6, ICAM1 and VCAM1 contents after hemostatic treatment were significantly lower whereas PAI-1 and AT-III contents were significantly higher, and serum APTT and PT levels as well as FDP, ET-1, ANG-II, ALD, NE, E, TNF-α, IL-6, ICAM1 and VCAM1 contents of combined group after hemostatic treatment were significantly lower than those of control group 1 and control group 2 whereas PAI-1 and AT-III contents were significantly higher than those of control group 1 and control group 2.Conclusion: uterine water bag + gauze packing treatment of postpartum hemorrhage can achieve better efficacy than monotherapy and improve the coagulation function and stress response.

Comparison Effectiveness Breast Milk and Dry Sterile Gauze to Treatment Umbilical Cord

Infection of the umbilical cord has been the cause of illness and death constantly in different countries. Each year 500,000 infants die from neonatal tetanus and 460,000 infants die from bacterial infections. One way that is currently being developed is the use breast milk. Various kinds of content of nutrients and substances that exist in breast milk may reduce the risk of incidence of the infection so that the baby can avoid the incidence of umbilical cord infection. This type of research is quasy experiments with static group comparison. The research data are obtained by researchers using observation sheet, then the data are tabulated. Results of the observation of the time required in the treatment of breast milk and umbilical cord using dry Sterile gauze then compare and conclusions draw an average release time of each media. From the results, the average time of the release of the umbilical cord using breast milk is for 127.41 hours and the average time of the release of the umbilical cord using dry Sterile gauze is for 157.38 hours. From the results of correlation Mann Whitney test with significance level α = 0.05 is obtained significance value (p) of 0.00. It takes a more active research and in a greater scope to conduct more studies in the use of breast milk to use for umbilicard cord of the baby. That requires the active participation of various stakeholders to provide support in implementing it.

Effect of gauze combined with water bag packing on the coagulation function, RAS system and stress response of patients with placenta previa complicated with postpartum hemorrhage

Objective: To study the effect of gauze combined with water bag packing on the coagulation function, RAS system and stress response of patients with placenta previa complicated with postpartum hemorrhage. Methods: A total of 69 patients with placenta previa complicated with postpartum hemorrhage who were treated in the hospital between March 2013 and September 2016 were selected and randomly divided into the research group who accepted gauze combined with water bag packing, the control group A who accepted gauze packing and the control group B who accepted water bag packing. The coagulation function indexes, RAS system indexes and stress response indexes were measured 12 h after delivery. Results:D-D, FDP, REN, AT-II, ALD, NE, E, MDA and ET-1 contents as well as APTT, TT and PT levels of research group 12 hours after delivery were lower than those of control group A and control group B, and D-D, FDP, REN, AT-II, ALD, NE, E, MDA and ET-1 contents as well as APTT, TT and PT levels of control group A were not significantly different from those of control group B. Conclusion: Gauze combined with water bag packing for placenta previa complicated with postpartum hemorrhage can improve the coagulation function and inhibit the excessive activation of RAS system and stress response.

Superhydrophobic graphene-decorated mesh gauze:recycling oils and organic solvents enhanced by large-diameter capillary action

A novel recyclable,superhydrophobic and superoleophilic graphene-based textile sorbent was prepared for the removal of oil spills and organic pollutants,by functionalizing cotton mesh gauze with reduced graphene oxide(RGO) using dip-coating and hydrothermal reduction approach.The RGO-gauze composite textile showed efficient water/oil separation,and the amount of oil absorbed by the sorbent could be up to 11 times of its own weight.About 50(±5)% absorbed oil could be recycled by mechanical squeezing and it was mainly extracted from the reserve of large-diameter capillary action.The RGO-gauze maintained high structural stability and outstanding recyclability after eight cycles of oil removal.This RGO-gauze consumes a small quantity of graphene(0.6 g m^(-2)) and can be produced in large scale,very suitable for application in the cleanup of oil spill and organic solvent effluent.

Introduction and importance: In the surgical field, we utilize gauze and surgical instruments daily, and the complications can be divided into avoidable versus nonavoidable. The term Gossypioma in the literature indicates a retained surgical sponge or gauze. It can be there for years and be dormant or discovered within days as the patient starts to reveal symptoms. This makes diagnosing challenging pre-operatively as the radiological findings might not be as specific. Case presentation: A 75 male Moroccan patient with Normal Body mass index, Medically free. Effect of Cooling Conditions on Grain Size of AZ91 Alloy

The grain size of AZ91 alloy was investigated in terms of the effects of cooling rate, superheat and steel gauze. It was found that rapid cooling rate and low superheat favoured the achievement of fine grain structures. The gauze had a less profound effect on the grain size in AZ91 magnesium alloy than that in A356 aluminum alloy. The mechanisms by which these factors affect grain refinement of AZ91 have also been discussed.

Determination of Levels of Asbestos Fiber in Cosmetic and Non-Cosmetic Products Sold within Enugu Metropolis—Enugu State, Nigeria

Studies were carried out to determine asbestos fiber levels in cosmetic (talc powder) and non-cosmetic (gauze pad, plastic filler and ceiling tiles) products sold in market outlets within Enugu, metropolis, Enugu State, Nigeria, using standard established procedures. The samples were pretreated based on its physical make-up and the asbestos fiber levels determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersing spectroscopy techniques. The mean range of asbestos fiber was, 0.02 - 0.06;0.01 - 0.05;0.01 - 0.04 and 0.03 - 0.06 f/cc for talc powder, gauze pads, plastic filler and ceiling tile samples respectively. The mean levels of asbestos fibers in the studied samples were within the recommended permissible limits. The samples contain asbestos fiber in the following decreasing order: ceiling tiles > talc powders > gauze pads > plastic fillers. Asbestos fiber was found present in the investigated local and foreign items sold in market outlets within the metropolis. This study shows that despite the ban on the use of asbestos in the industry in the manufacture of items meant for human use, its enforcement appears weak and lethargic and this could portend health danger especially in the use of produced items with high asbestos fiber friability such as talc powder.

Flexible electrical stimulation device with Chitosan-Vaseline®dressing accelerates wound healing in diabetes

The healing process of diabetic wounds is typically disordered and prolonged and requires both angiogenesis and epithelialization.Disruptions of the endogenous electric fields(EFs)may lead to disordered cell migration.Electrical stimulation(ES)that mimics endogenous EFs is a promising method in treating diabetic wounds;however,a microenvironment that facilitates cell migration and a convenient means that can be used to apply ES are also required.Chitosan-Vaseline■gauze(CVG)has been identified to facilitate wound healing;it also promotes moisture retention and immune regulation and has antibacterial activity.For this study,we created a wound dressing using CVG together with a flexible ES device and further evaluated its potential as a treatment for diabetic wounds.We found that high voltage monophasic pulsed current(HVMPC)promoted healing of diabetic wounds in vivo.In studies carried out in vitro,we found that HVMPC promoted the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)by activating PI3K/Akt and ERK1/2 signaling.Overall,we determined that the flexible ES-chitosan dressing may promoted healing of diabetic wounds by accelerating angiogenesis,enhancing epithelialization,and inhibiting scar formation.These findings provide support for the ongoing development of this multidisciplinary product for the care and treatment of diabetic wounds.
