This study presents analysis, control and comparison of three hybrid approaches for the direct torque control (DTC) of the dual star induction motor (DSIM) drive. Its objective consists of combining three different heuristic optimization techniques including PID-PSO, Fuzzy-PSO and GA-PSO to improve the DSIM speed controlled loop behavior. The GA and PSO algorithms are developed and implemented into MATLAB. As a result, fuzzy-PSO is the most appropriate scheme. The main performance of fuzzy-PSO is reducing high torque ripples, improving rise time and avoiding disturbances that affect the drive performance. 展开更多

To get the satisfying performance of a PID controller, this paper presents a novel Pareto-based multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA), which can be used to find the appropriate setting of the PID controller by analyzing the pareto optimal surfaces. Rated settings of the controller by two criteria, the error between output and reference signals and control moves, are listed on the pareto surface. Appropriate setting can be chosen under a balance between two criteria for different control purposes. A controller tuning problem for a plant with high order and time delay is chosen as an example. Simulation results show that the method of MOGA is more efficient compared with traditional tuning methods. 展开更多

Despite the series-parallel hybrid electric vehicle inherits the performance advantages from both series and parallel hybrid electric vehicle, few researches about the series-parallel hybrid electric vehicle have been revealed because of its complex co nstruction and control strategy. In this paper, a series-parallel hybrid electric bus as well as its control strategy is revealed, and a control parameter optimization approach using the real-valued genetic algorithm is proposed. The optimization objective is to minimize the fuel consumption while sustain the battery state of charge, a tangent penalty function of state of charge(SOC) is embodied in the objective function to recast this multi-objective nonlinear optimization problem as a single linear optimization problem. For this strategy, the vehicle operating mode is switched based on the vehicle speed, and an "optimal line" typed strategy is designed for the parallel control. The optimization parameters include the speed threshold for mode switching, the highest state of charge allowed, the lowest state of charge allowed and the scale factor of the engine optimal torque to the engine maximum torque at a rotational speed. They are optimized through numerical experiments based on real-value genes, arithmetic crossover and mutation operators. The hybrid bus has been evaluated at the Chinese Transit Bus City Driving Cycle via road test, in which a control area network-based monitor system was used to trace the driving schedule. The test result shows that this approach is feasible for the control parameter optimization. This approach can be applied to not only the novel construction presented in this paper, but also other types of hybrid electric vehicles. 展开更多

Aiming at dealing with the difficulty for traditional emergency rescue vehicle(ECV)to enter into limited rescue scenes,the electro-hydraulic steer-by-wire(SBW)system is introduced to achieve the multi-mode steering of the ECV.The overall structure and mathematical model of the SBW system are described at length.The fractional order proportional-integral-derivative(FOPID)controller based on fractional calculus theory is designed to control the steering cylinder’s movement in SBW system.The anti-windup problem is considered in the FOPID controller design to reduce the bad influence of saturation.Five parameters of the FOPID controller are optimized using the genetic algorithm by maximizing the fitness function which involves integral of time by absolute value error(ITAE),peak overshoot,as well as settling time.The time-domain simulations are implemented to identify the performance of the raised FOPID controller.The simulation results indicate the presented FOPID controller possesses more effective control properties than classical proportional-integral-derivative(PID)controller on the part of transient response,tracking capability and robustness. 展开更多

This paper delineates a conventional buck converter controlled by optimized PID controller where Genetic Algorithm (GA) is employed with a view to enhancing the performance by analyzing the performance parameters. Genetic Algorithm is a probabilistic search algorithm which is substantially used as an optimization technique in power electronics. A bunch of modifications have already been introduced to enhance the performance depending upon the applications. However, in this paper, modified genetic algorithm has been used in order to tune the key parameters in the converter. Hence, an analysis is carried out where the performance of the converter is illustrated in terms of rise time, settling time and percentage of overshoot by deploying GA based PID controller and the overall comparative study is presented. The control design, based on self-adaptive PID with genetic algorithms(GA) tuning on-line was investigated, for the temperature control of industrial microwave drying rotary device with the multi-layer(IMDRDWM) and with multivariable nonlinear interaction of microwave and materials. The conventional PID control strategy incorporated with optimization GA was put forward to maintain the optimum drying temperature in order to keep the moisture content below 1%, whose adaptation ability included the cost function of optimization GA according to the output change. Simulations on five different industrial process models and practical temperature process control system for selenium-enriched slag drying intensively by using IMDRDWM were carried out systematically, indicating the reliability and effectiveness of control design. The parameters of proposed control design are all on-line implemented without iterative predictive calculations, and the closed-loop system stability is guaranteed, which makes the developed scheme simpler in its synthesis and application, providing the practical guidelines for the control implementation and the parameter design. 展开更多

The performances of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm have been compared to develop a methodology for concurrent and integrated design of mechanical structure and controller of a 2-dof robotic manipulator solving tracking problems. The proposed design scheme optimizes various parameters belonging to different domains (that is, link geometry, mass distribution, moment of inertia, control gains) concurrently to design manipulator, which can track some given paths accurately with a minimum power consumption. The main strength of this study lies with the design of an integrated scheme to solve the above problem. Both real-coded Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization are used to solve this complex optimization problem. Four approaches have been developed and their performances are compared. Particle Swarm Optimization is found to perform better than the Genetic Algorithm, as the former carries out both global and local searches simultaneously, whereas the latter concentrates mainly on the global search. Controllers with adaptive gain values have shown better performance compared to the conventional ones, as expected. 展开更多

A novel immune genetic algorithm with the elitist selection and elitist crossover was proposed, which is called the immune genetic algorithm with the elitism (IGAE). In IGAE, the new methods for computing antibody similarity, expected reproduction probability, and clonal selection probability were given. IGAE has three features. The first is that the similarities of two antibodies in structure and quality are all defined in the form of percentage, which helps to describe the similarity of two antibodies more accurately and to reduce the computational burden effectively. The second is that with the elitist selection and elitist crossover strategy IGAE is able to find the globally optimal solution of a given problem. The third is that the formula of expected reproduction probability of antibody can be adjusted through a parameter r, which helps to balance the population diversity and the convergence speed of IGAE so that IGAE can find the globally optimal solution of a given problem more rapidly. Two different complex multi-modal functions were selected to test the validity of IGAE. The experimental results show that IGAE can find the globally maximum/minimum values of the two functions rapidly. The experimental results also confirm that IGAE is of better performance in convergence speed, solution variation behavior, and computational efficiency compared with the canonical genetic algorithm with the elitism and the immune genetic algorithm with the information entropy and elitism. 展开更多

The direct torque control of the dual star induction motor(DTC-DSIM) using conventional PI controllers is characterized by unsatisfactory performance, such as high ripples of torque and flux, and sensitivity to parametric variations. Among the most evoked control strategies adopted in this field to overcome these drawbacks presented in classical drive, it is worth mentioning the use of the second order sliding mode control(SOSMC) based on the super twisting algorithm(STA) combined with the fuzzy logic control(FSOSMC). In order to realize the optimal control performance, the FSOSMC parameters are adjusted using an optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm(GA). The performances of the envisaged control scheme, called G-FSOSMC, are investigated against G-SOSMC, G-PI and BBO-FSOSMC algorithms. The proposed controller scheme is efficient in reducing the torque and flux ripples, and successfully suppresses chattering. The effects of parametric uncertainties do not affect system performance. 展开更多

Task scheduling is the main problem in cloud computing that reduces system performance;it is an important way to arrange user needs and perform multiple goals.Cloud computing is the most popular technology nowadays and has many research potential in various areas like resource allocation,task scheduling,security,privacy,etc.To improve system performance,an efficient task-scheduling algorithm is required.Existing task-scheduling algorithms focus on task-resource requirements,CPU memory,execution time,and execution cost.In this paper,a task scheduling algorithm based on a Genetic Algorithm(GA)has been presented for assigning and executing different tasks.The proposed algorithm aims to minimize both the completion time and execution cost of tasks and maximize resource utilization.We evaluate our algorithm’s performance by applying it to two examples with a different number of tasks and processors.The first example contains ten tasks and four processors;the computation costs are generated randomly.The last example has eight processors,and the number of tasks ranges from twenty to seventy;the computation cost of each task on different processors is generated randomly.The achieved results show that the proposed approach significantly succeeded in finding the optimal solutions for the three objectives;completion time,execution cost,and resource utilization. 展开更多

Investigation into the Computational Costs of Using Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing for the Optimization of Explicit Friction Factor Models

Research reports show that the accuracies of many explicit friction factor models, having different levels of accuracies and complexities, have been improved using genetic algorithm (GA), a global optimization approach. However, the computational cost associated with the use of GA has yet to be discussed. In this study, the parameters of sixteen explicit models for the estimation of friction factor in the turbulent flow regime were optimized using two popular global search methods namely genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA). Based on 1000 interval values of Reynolds number (Re) in the range of and 100 interval values of relative roughness () in the range of , corresponding friction factor (f) data were obtained by solving Colebrook-White equation using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. These data were then used to modify the parameters of the selected explicit models. Although both GA and SA led to either moderate or significant improvements in the accuracies of the existing friction factor models, SA outperforms the GA. Moreover, the SA requires far less computational time than the GA to complete the corresponding optimization process. It can therefore be concluded that SA is a better global optimizer than GA in the process of finding an improved explicit friction factor model as an alternative to the implicit Colebrook-White equation in the turbulent flow regime. 展开更多

This approach synthesizes the computer simulation technology, orthogonal genetic algorithm and statistical test method faultlessly, which can solve complex optimization problem effectively. In this paper, the author gives the correlative conception of probability simulation optimization and describes the probability simulation optimization approach using orthogonal genetic algorithm in detail. Theoretically speaking, it has a strong rationality and maneuverability that can apply probability method in solving the complex optimization problems with uncertain phenomenon. In demonstration, the optimization performance of this method is better than other traditional methods. It draws on merits of both GA and SAA ,and offsets their shortcomings.The difference from GA is that AGA takes objective function as adaptability function directly,so it cuts down some unnecessary time expense because of float-point calculation of function conversion.The difference from SAA is that AGA need not execute a very long Markov chain iteration at each point of temperature, so it speeds up the convergence of solution and makes no assumption on the search space,so it is simple and easy to be implemented.It can be applied to a wide class of problems.The optimizing principle and the implementing steps of AGA were expounded. The example of the parameter optimization of a typical complex electromechanical system named temper mill shows that AGA is effective and superior to the conventional GA and SAA.The control system of temper mill optimized by AGA has the optimal performance in the adjustable ranges of its parameters. 展开更多

Nowadays,succeeding safe communication and protection-sensitive data from unauthorized access above public networks are the main worries in cloud servers.Hence,to secure both data and keys ensuring secured data storage and access,our proposed work designs a Novel Quantum Key Distribution(QKD)relying upon a non-commutative encryption framework.It makes use of a Novel Quantum Key Distribution approach,which guarantees high level secured data transmission.Along with this,a shared secret is generated using Diffie Hellman(DH)to certify secured key generation at reduced time complexity.Moreover,a non-commutative approach is used,which effectively allows the users to store and access the encrypted data into the cloud server.Also,to prevent data loss or corruption caused by the insiders in the cloud,Optimized Genetic Algorithm(OGA)is utilized,which effectively recovers the data and retrieve it if the missed data without loss.It is then followed with the decryption process as if requested by the user.Thus our proposed framework ensures authentication and paves way for secure data access,with enhanced performance and reduced complexities experienced with the prior works. 展开更多

Chesi's self-calibration for the ... An improved self-calibrating algorithm for visual servo based on adaptive genetic algorithm is proposed in this paper. Our approach introduces an extension of Mendonca-Cipolla and G. Chesi's self-calibration for the positionbased visual servo technique which exploits the singular value property of the essential matrix. Specifically, a suitable dynamic online cost function is generated according to the property of the three singular values. The visual servo process is carried out simultaneous to the dynamic self-calibration, and then the cost function is minimized using the adaptive genetic algorithm instead of the gradient descent method in G. Chesi's approach. Moreover, this method overcomes the limitation that the initial parameters must be selected close to the true value, which is not constant in many cases. It is not necessary to know exactly the camera intrinsic parameters when using our approach, instead, coarse coding bounds of the five parameters are enough for the algorithm, which can be done once and for all off-line. Besides, this algorithm does not require knowledge of the 3D model of the object. Simulation experiments are carried out and the results demonstrate that the proposed approach provides a fast convergence speed and robustness against unpredictable perturbations of camera parameters, and it is an effective and efficient visual servo algorithm. 展开更多

Building structure is like the skeleton of the building,it bears the effects of various forces and forms a supporting system,which is the material basis on which the building depends.Hence building structure design is a vital part in architecture design,architects often explore novel applications of their technologies for building structure innovation.However,such searches relied on experiences,expertise or gut feeling.In this paper,a new design method for the optimal building frame column design based on the genetic algorithm is proposed.First of all,in order to construct the optimal model of the building frame column,building units are divided into three categories in general:building bottom,main building and building roof.Secondly,the genetic algorithm is introduced to optimize the building frame column.In the meantime,a PGA-Skeleton based concurrent genetic algorithm design plan is proposed to improve the optimization efficiency of the genetic algorithm.Finally,effectiveness of the mentioned algorithm is verified through the simulation experiment. 展开更多

The Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA) is a Feistel block cipher well known for its simple implementation, small memory footprint, and fast execution speed. In two previous studies, genetic algorithms (GAs) were employed to investigate the randomness of TEA output, based on which distinguishers for TEA could be designed. In this study, we used quan-tum-inspired genetic algorithms (QGAs) in the cryptanalysis of TEA. Quantum chromosomes in QGAs have the advan-tage of containing more information than the binary counterpart of the same length in GAs, and therefore generate a more diverse solution pool. We showed that QGAs could discover distinguishers for reduced cycle TEA that are more efficient than those found by classical GAs in two earlier studies. Furthermore, we applied QGAs to break four-cycle and five-cycle TEAs, a considerably harder problem, which the prior GA approach failed to solve. 展开更多
