Data on discrete,isolated attributes of the marine economy are often used in traditional marine economic research.However,as the focus of urban research shifts from internal static attributes to external dynamic linka...Data on discrete,isolated attributes of the marine economy are often used in traditional marine economic research.However,as the focus of urban research shifts from internal static attributes to external dynamic linkages,the importance of marine economic net-work research is beginning to emerge.The construction of the marine economic network in China’s coastal areas is necessary to change the flow of land and sea resources and optimize regional marine economic development.Employing data from headquarters and branches of sea-related A-share listed enterprises to construct the marine economic network in China,we use social network analysis(SNA)to discuss the characteristics of its evolution as of 2010,2015,and 2020 and its governance.The following results were obtained.1)In terms of topological characteristics,the scale of the marine economic network in China’s coastal areas has accelerated and expan-ded,and the connections have become increasingly close;thus,this development has complex network characteristics.2)In terms of spatial structure,the intensity of the connection fluctuates and does not form stable development support;the group structure gradually becomes clear,but the overall pattern is fragmented;there are spatial differences in marine economic agglomeration radiation;the radi-ation effect of the eastern marine economic circle is obvious;and the polarization effect of northern and southern marine economic circles is significant.On this basis,we construct a framework for the governance of a marine economic network with the market,the government,and industry as the three governing bodies.By clarifying the driving factors and building objectives of marine economic network construction,this study aims to foster the high-quality development of China’s marine economy.展开更多

This paper examines land policies on acquisition and compensation practice in Nigeria with the aim of minimizing conflicts in land acquisition and compensation.It further explains the implications of uncoordinated lan...This paper examines land policies on acquisition and compensation practice in Nigeria with the aim of minimizing conflicts in land acquisition and compensation.It further explains the implications of uncoordinated land allocations arising from informal transactions.The paper used self-administered questionnaires on all the fifteen(15)registered estate firms in the 2009 NIESV Directory in Benin City,Edo state to obtain information that helped to determine the fairness of compensation practice and causes of conflict in some communities in the state.The paper revealed that the compensation on acquired landed properties in Nigeria violated the principles of good governance as against what is obtainable in advanced countries.It also observed that inadequacy of compensation paid and delay in payment are the causes of conflict between the acquiring authorities and the affected community/people.The paper concluded that a review of land policies on acquisition and compensation will be a panacea for achieving the principles of good governance.展开更多

The faculty, especially at the level of study program, has an important role in affecting the quality of graduates, because the study program is the core element in the higher education institution which involves directly in planning, organizing, executing and controlling the teaching and learning activities. This dissertation is to examine the effect of leadership on performance management and good governance, and also to examine the effect of performance management and good governance on internal and external satisfaction. The data for this causal research is collected by questionnaire. Unit of analysis in this research is all study programs in all accredited faculty of economics in East Java. The respondents are academic staffs, students and administrative staffs in the study program. There were 83 of 125 accredited study program which has been successfully contacted and agreed to participate in the research. There were 900 students and 285 academic staffs filling up the questionnaires. The data analysis is conducted by Path Analysis with the SPSS 11.5 version software to measure construct validity and reliability and to test causal relationships between variables in the model. The findings of the research showed that: (1) Leadership affects performance management significantly; (2) Leadership affects good governance significantly; (3) Leadership affects internal satisfaction significantly; (4) Performance management affects internal satisfaction; (5) Good governance significantly affects external satisfaction; (6) Internal satisfaction does not affect external satisfaction. Based on the findings in this research, it is suggested that the study programs take into account the implementation of performance management in order to undertake improvement continuously considering that performance management supports the quality assurance activity. It is also suggested that the faculty implements good governance formally. However, the implementation should empower the study program to undertake the improvement.展开更多

The question is what con...Numbers of economists of development consider that good governance, defined as the quality management and orientation of development policies has a positive influence on economic performance. The question is what content the literature gives to the concept of governance. According to the World Bank, good governance is evaluated by the implementation capacity of governance principles of a country, providing a framework for market development and economic growth. Empirical studies tested the relationship between good governance in the sense of “market-enhancing governance” (stimulus institutions market) and showed a positive relationship between good governance and economic growth. However, a good governance policy needs for developing countries to achieve minimum economic growth and political reforms in order to reach a level of development similar to that of industrialized countries. We focus on good governance definition made by the World Bank and criticism formulated by Mushtaq Khan, who reconstructed the notion of Governance Capabilities, taking into account the capacity of states to drive structural change in institutional, political, economic, and social fields, in order to ensure long-term economic growth. The objective of this research was to develop the causal relationship model of firm characteristics factors and good corporate governance affecting the performance of the companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thai...The objective of this research was to develop the causal relationship model of firm characteristics factors and good corporate governance affecting the performance of the companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The developed model consisted of three latent variables and eight observable variables. The sample of this study was 338 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Data are from annual reports (form-56), annual financial statements and notes to the fmancial statements during the years 2010-2013. The statistics used in this study were descriptive statistics. The causal model was analyzed through a path analysis with LISREL 8.80 Student Edition. The results showed as follows. By testing the consistence of the causal model of finn characteristics (CHA), the assumed model was consistent with empirical data. Based on the statistical test, the Chi-Square was 22.08. The statistical probability (p) was 0.077, the degree of freedom (dO was to 0, 2/2 was 1.58, RMSEA was 0.041, SRMR was 0.037, GFI was 0.98, CFI was 0.99, AGFI was 0.96. The latent variable of firm characteristics (CHA) had directly negative impact on performance (PAL) with a statistical significance level of 0.01. A path coefficient was 0.18. However, CHA variable did not indirectly influence performance (PAL) and it had directly negative impact on good corporate governance (GGN) with a path coefficient of 0.02 without statistical significance level. The latent variable of good corporate governance (GGN) had directly positive impact on the performance (PAL) with a statistical significance level of 0.05, with a path coefficient of 0.18.展开更多

The company can maximize the shareholders' equities, the prosperity of the owners of interests, the reputation of the company, and the long-term viability of the company by undertaking the CSR. The controversy whether the company should be engaged in CSR or not is still going on. According to the shareholder theory, the supporters of CSR (Donaldson & Preston, 1995; Jones, 1995) say that CSR is a mechanism to achieve a better financial condition and to maximize the property of the shareholders (A. Mackey, T. B. Mackey, & Barney, 2007). This research investigates in three folds, the relationships among corporate governance, CSR, and firm performance, then the relationship between intellectual property and firm performance. This research shows that the independent board of commissioners is related to CSR. CSR and the institutional ownership are also related to firm performance. In addition, intellectual property is strongly related to firm performance. This means that intellectual property owned by public-limited companies in Indonesia increases firm performance.展开更多

Trump will use the withdrawal to build his political reputation and to renegotiate the Paris Agreement despite its negative effects on the political credibility, international relationships, and potential long-term economic growth of the U.S. In general, the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement will not change the development of low-carbon technologies and the transformation trend of the global climate governance regime. However, the long-term goals and international cooperation on climate change will be affected by budget cuts in American climate change research and the cancelation of donations from the multilateral environmental fund of the U.S. If the Paris Agreement is renegotiated, the common but differentiated principle of responsibility of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be challenged again. Nevertheless, climate change governance remains a main theme of future sustainable development. Instead of national governments, local governments and non-governmental organizations will develop strategies for technical innovation and emphasize pragmatic cooperation, thus expanding their roles in climate change governance. Reputation mechanism is introduced and Bayesian approach is based on, in which government supervision as well as consumer purchasing behavior is taken as crucial factors to impact on the food quality security. As to the proposed quantitative indicators, government supervision includes exposure rate, fine and etc.;at the same time, consumer purchasing behavior includes consumer’s WTP for security food and consumer expectations to food safety. Taking China’s dairy industry as an example, it makes simulation by Netlog. The results show that consumer purchasing behavior alone has little effect on the dairy companies’ decision-making to be honest or counterfeiting enterprises. However, combination government supervision with purchasing behavior has great impact, and plays very good effects on food safety.展开更多

In such a defined context, corporate governance tends to evolve from a situation of primary care for the expectations of shareholders (shareholder's view) and for the correlated financial responsibility, to a wide consideration of all the stakeholders (stakeholder's view) and related responsibilities (financial, environmental, social, administrative). The correct carrying out of governance processes requires, therefore, a clear focus on sustainable development and on the related assumption of a concept of global responsibility. The decisions made by the governing bodies must be driven by the purpose to create value in the long term according to conditions of fairness and sustainable development. To sum up, this research aims to deepen the existing connections between corporate governance, sustainable development and value creation on the basis of the empirical analysis of a limited number of listed Italian companies afferent to the public utilities sector. The paper, based on a deductive approach, is composed of two distinct but strictly connected parts: the first theoretical and the second empirical. The empirical research consists of a content analysis of the most recent documents (sustainability reports and annual reports) worked out by the selected companies. The results obtained about the degree respect of sustainable development conditions by each company are linked to the related value dimension (social, economic, competitive and environmental performance) aimed at verifying if the assumption of a corporate governance approach inspired by sustainability is susceptible of favouring the company development in a medium long term. From the delivered research it emerges how public utilities that promote behaviours in line with the sustainability conditions are marked out by stable growth paths. Conversely, the companies that assume a vision mainly addressed to the economic dimension, neglecting the other areas are generally compromised in the performance realized.展开更多

The faculty, especially at the level of study program, has an important role in affecting the quality of graduates, because the study program is the core element in the higher education institution which involves directly in planning, organizing, executing and controlling the teaching and learning activities. This dissertation is to examine the effect of leadership on performance management and good governance, and also to examine the effect of performance management and good governance on internal and external satisfaction. The data for this causal research is collected by questionnaire. Unit of analysis in this research is all study programs in all accredited faculty of economics in East Java. The respondents are academic staffs, students and administrative staffs in the study program. There were 83 of 125 accredited study program which has been successfully contacted and agreed to participate in the research. There were 900 students and 285 academic staffs filling up the questionnaires. The data analysis is conducted by Path Analysis with the SPSS 11.5 version software to measure construct validity and reliability and to test causal relationships between variables in the model. The findings of the research showed that: (1) Leadership affects performance management significantly; (2) Leadership affects good governance significantly; (3) Leadership affects internal satisfaction significantly; (4) Performance management affects internal satisfaction; (5) Good governance significantly affects external satisfaction; (6) Internal satisfaction does not affect external satisfaction. Based on the findings in this research, it is suggested that the study programs take into account the implementation of performance management in order to undertake improvement continuously considering that performance management supports the quality assurance activity. It is also suggested that the faculty implements good governance formally. However, the implementation should empower the study program to undertake the improvement.

文摘Numbers of economists of development consider that good governance, defined as the quality management and orientation of development policies has a positive influence on economic performance. The question is what content the literature gives to the concept of governance. According to the World Bank, good governance is evaluated by the implementation capacity of governance principles of a country, providing a framework for market development and economic growth. Empirical studies tested the relationship between good governance in the sense of “market-enhancing governance” (stimulus institutions market) and showed a positive relationship between good governance and economic growth. However, a good governance policy needs for developing countries to achieve minimum economic growth and political reforms in order to reach a level of development similar to that of industrialized countries. We focus on good governance definition made by the World Bank and criticism formulated by Mushtaq Khan, who reconstructed the notion of Governance Capabilities, taking into account the capacity of states to drive structural change in institutional, political, economic, and social fields, in order to ensure long-term economic growth. Our goal is to use a new concept of governance in order to build a new political economy approach more suitable for emerging countries.
文摘The objective of this research was to develop the causal relationship model of firm characteristics factors and good corporate governance affecting the performance of the companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The developed model consisted of three latent variables and eight observable variables. The sample of this study was 338 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Data are from annual reports (form-56), annual financial statements and notes to the fmancial statements during the years 2010-2013. The statistics used in this study were descriptive statistics. The causal model was analyzed through a path analysis with LISREL 8.80 Student Edition. The results showed as follows. By testing the consistence of the causal model of finn characteristics (CHA), the assumed model was consistent with empirical data. Based on the statistical test, the Chi-Square was 22.08. The statistical probability (p) was 0.077, the degree of freedom (dO was to 0, 2/2 was 1.58, RMSEA was 0.041, SRMR was 0.037, GFI was 0.98, CFI was 0.99, AGFI was 0.96. The latent variable of firm characteristics (CHA) had directly negative impact on performance (PAL) with a statistical significance level of 0.01. A path coefficient was 0.18. However, CHA variable did not indirectly influence performance (PAL) and it had directly negative impact on good corporate governance (GGN) with a path coefficient of 0.02 without statistical significance level. The latent variable of good corporate governance (GGN) had directly positive impact on the performance (PAL) with a statistical significance level of 0.05, with a path coefficient of 0.18.
文摘The strategy of the company, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), can be adopted to show a good image of the company to the external parties. The company can maximize the shareholders' equities, the prosperity of the owners of interests, the reputation of the company, and the long-term viability of the company by undertaking the CSR. The controversy whether the company should be engaged in CSR or not is still going on. According to the shareholder theory, the supporters of CSR (Donaldson & Preston, 1995; Jones, 1995) say that CSR is a mechanism to achieve a better financial condition and to maximize the property of the shareholders (A. Mackey, T. B. Mackey, & Barney, 2007). This research investigates in three folds, the relationships among corporate governance, CSR, and firm performance, then the relationship between intellectual property and firm performance. This research shows that the independent board of commissioners is related to CSR. CSR and the institutional ownership are also related to firm performance. In addition, intellectual property is strongly related to firm performance. This means that intellectual property owned by public-limited companies in Indonesia increases firm performance.
文摘The thrust of the paper shows that with the application of the tenets of Democracy, the Church in Nigeria has significant role to play especially in governance issues. The Church cannot be delinked from the state since they need each other for the peaceful co-existence of various groups in the society. Accordingly, Democracy and Church in Nigeria today are partners in progress and not strange bedfellows. Undoubtedly, room for improvement exists still as both are geared towards the social, spiritual, cultural, economic, scientific and technological development. Their ultimate goal is to equip the people with self-transforming knowledge which they will use to change their environment and execute whatever task that they are assigned. Consequently, using an expository investigative and analytic method, the paper challenges that the issues of good governance must be carried out continuously to ensure harmonious co-existence and attainment of a just and nobler society. The Church, as the harbinger of hope, must be at the frontline to fight every ugly behaviour against the principles of democratic governance.

文摘The global community has prepared for the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement since Donald Trump was elected as the president of the U.S. However, Trump's formal declaration of withdrawal still caused worldwide reaction. Trump will use the withdrawal to build his political reputation and to renegotiate the Paris Agreement despite its negative effects on the political credibility, international relationships, and potential long-term economic growth of the U.S. In general, the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement will not change the development of low-carbon technologies and the transformation trend of the global climate governance regime. However, the long-term goals and international cooperation on climate change will be affected by budget cuts in American climate change research and the cancelation of donations from the multilateral environmental fund of the U.S. If the Paris Agreement is renegotiated, the common but differentiated principle of responsibility of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be challenged again. Nevertheless, climate change governance remains a main theme of future sustainable development. Instead of national governments, local governments and non-governmental organizations will develop strategies for technical innovation and emphasize pragmatic cooperation, thus expanding their roles in climate change governance. The capacity building on climate change research and public awareness should be enhanced as a long-term objective of global climate change governance.
文摘We have arrived at a critical juncture when it comes to understanding the numerous ways in which trade interacts with climate change and energy(trade-climate-energy nexus).Trade remains crucial for the sustainable development of the world's greatest trading nation:China.After clarifying the linkages within the trade,climate change and energy nexus,this article delves into China's specific needs and interests related to trade,climate change and energy.Then it explores the ways in which trade can contribute to China's needs,to sustainable energy development and to the goals of the global climate agreement that is under negotiation.One main findings are China is a key participant in negotiations on trade liberalization of environmental technologies and services.These negotiations are in China's interests in terms of innovative industries,technological upgrading,employment and public health.China could stand up for the interests of other emerging and developing countries and serve as an example in terms of transitioning to a low-carbon economy.Beyond trade barriers issues of domestic(energy)regulation such as fossil-fuel subsidies as well as investment,competition-policy,tradefacilitation and transit issues related to clean energy need to be addressed.Building trust between relevant actors across sectors and national borders will be of the essence in order to foster long-term cooperation on technological innovation.As a way forward,different approaches towards the governance of trade and climate change will be highlighted.Besides discussing the specific aspects of Chinese participation in global trade and climate change governance,this paper aims at offering broader insights into the nexus between trade,energy and climate governance in China.
文摘This paper aims at the theoretical analysis to the impact of government supervision and consumer purchasing behavior on food quality security, so as to look for safety strategies and measures to strengthen and improve the level of food safety in China. Reputation mechanism is introduced and Bayesian approach is based on, in which government supervision as well as consumer purchasing behavior is taken as crucial factors to impact on the food quality security. As to the proposed quantitative indicators, government supervision includes exposure rate, fine and etc.;at the same time, consumer purchasing behavior includes consumer’s WTP for security food and consumer expectations to food safety. Taking China’s dairy industry as an example, it makes simulation by Netlog. The results show that consumer purchasing behavior alone has little effect on the dairy companies’ decision-making to be honest or counterfeiting enterprises. However, combination government supervision with purchasing behavior has great impact, and plays very good effects on food safety.
文摘Modern corporate situations, characterized by the globalisation of the markets and of the information, highlight the need to link the potential of a not transient growth to the adequate reconciliation of all the expectations converging around the entrepreneurial formula and not only of those attributable to shareholders. In such a defined context, corporate governance tends to evolve from a situation of primary care for the expectations of shareholders (shareholder's view) and for the correlated financial responsibility, to a wide consideration of all the stakeholders (stakeholder's view) and related responsibilities (financial, environmental, social, administrative). The correct carrying out of governance processes requires, therefore, a clear focus on sustainable development and on the related assumption of a concept of global responsibility. The decisions made by the governing bodies must be driven by the purpose to create value in the long term according to conditions of fairness and sustainable development. To sum up, this research aims to deepen the existing connections between corporate governance, sustainable development and value creation on the basis of the empirical analysis of a limited number of listed Italian companies afferent to the public utilities sector. The paper, based on a deductive approach, is composed of two distinct but strictly connected parts: the first theoretical and the second empirical. The empirical research consists of a content analysis of the most recent documents (sustainability reports and annual reports) worked out by the selected companies. The results obtained about the degree respect of sustainable development conditions by each company are linked to the related value dimension (social, economic, competitive and environmental performance) aimed at verifying if the assumption of a corporate governance approach inspired by sustainability is susceptible of favouring the company development in a medium long term. From the delivered research it emerges how public utilities that promote behaviours in line with the sustainability conditions are marked out by stable growth paths. Conversely, the companies that assume a vision mainly addressed to the economic dimension, neglecting the other areas are generally compromised in the performance realized.
文摘In this paper,the current situation of agricultural environmental pollution caused by the increase of chemicals input in agriculture in China was analyzed,and it is found that agricultural pollution is related to agricultural industrial policies,urban-rural economic structure,funds input in pollution control,comprehensive environmental management,laws of pollution control,and so forth. To control agricultural pollution effectively,it is needed to implement integration of agricultural and environmental policies,establish environmentally friendly agricultural technology popularizing system,implement integrated planning and management of a basin,and set up and improve legislation to protect agricultural environment.

文摘China and the United States are two key players in global climate governance.What about their relations in the field of climate change and how should we view these relations? An analysis of their relations in global climate governance is of great significance both for global multinational negotiations and their bilateral relations. The two parties have enhanced their cooperation on climate change since 2009 in terms of increasing willingness, broader scale, more diverse mechanisms and higher effectiveness. With the U.N. Paris Climate Conference 2015 approaching, China-US cooperation will inject much momentum into the multilateral process of reaching an ambitious agreement. However, there are also sharp divergences between China and the U.S. regarding principles, rules, and legal means. These divergences might become prominent during the Paris Conference and need to be addressed at the bilateral level.

Based on the theoretical analysis on the influence of the transfer payments from the central government to the local governments' on the local governments' payments', this paper indicates that the local governments' efforts on taxation depends on the demand elasticity of the district for public goods, It increases with the increase of the elasticity.
