Clinical effect of governor meridian moxibustion on treatment of lumbar disc protrusion: A meta analysis

Objective:To explore the clinical effect of governor meridian moxibustion on lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion.Methods:Randomized controlled trials on treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion with governor meridian moxibustion and combined governor meridian moxibustion were retrieved from CNKI,VIP,Wan Fang Data,CBM,Web of ScienceTM Core Collection,EBSCO Medline,PubMed,OVID,the Cochrane Library,and other databases.The time was from the inception of the database until October 2021.The studies were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,extracted,and evaluated for quality assessment.The data were analyzed with Review Manager 5.3 software.Results:A total of 24 randomized controlled trials(2379 cases in total)were included.Meta-analysis results showed that compared with control groups such as acupuncture,electroacupuncture,and massage,the governor meridian treatment improved the clinical efficacy[RR=1.17,95%CI(1.13,1.20),P<0.001],relieved patients'pain[MD=-1.56,95%CI(-1.89,-1.22),P<0.001],and improved patients’dysfunction to a certain extent[MD=4.84,95%CI(3.87,5.82),P<0.001].Funnel plot analysis showed that the included literature may be potentially biased in publication.Conclusion:Governor meridian moxibustion has a significant effect on the treatment of lumbar disc protrusion and is worthy of widespread use.However,given the small number of high-quality literature included in the study,the small sample size,and the short follow-up time,high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to further study the long-term therapeutic effect of governor meridian moxibustion.

Governor Vessel Moxibustion:Ancient Chinese Medical Technology with New Vitality

Moxibustion is an ancient therapeutic technique used in Chinese medicine. Governor Vessel moxibustion（GVM） was developed from long snake moxibustion, a popular technique used in China＇s Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, and is significantly more effective than general moxibustion. We aimed to review GVM, including its theoretical basis, choices of moxibustion points and materials, operation procedures, clinical applications, and contraindications. This information could increase the appropriate use of GVM and support further in-depth research.

督灸联合走罐治疗过敏性鼻炎28例

ObjectiveTo observe the clinical therapeutic effect of combined treatment of moxibustion along the governor vessel and sliding cupping on allergic rhinitis.MethodsA total of 28 patients with allergic rhinitis meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study. Sliding cupping was applied on the back, followed by moxibustion along the running course of the governor vessel. After 6 treatments, the symptoms and signs of patients were evaluated according to guideline and reported.ResultsCompared with before treatment, the score of symptoms and sighs all decreased after treatment(7.64 ± 1.62 vs 1.86 ± 0.65 ,2.57 ± 1.26 vs 0.96 ± 0.57, both P < 0.05). Among 28 patients, the treatment was remarkably effective in 14 patients, effective in 12 patients and no effect in 2 patients. The total effective rate was 92.86%. No severer adverse events happened during the treatment.ConclusionThe combined treatment of moxibustion along the governor vessel and sliding cupping therapy could be effective for allergic rhinitis, and may require further investigation for its effectiveness.
