However, it has not been able to map that portion of the sky which is occluded by the dust gas and stars of our own Milkyway Galaxy. This research builds on work from a previous paper that sought to impute this missing galactic information using Inpainting, polar transforms and Linear Regression ANNs. In that paper, the author only attempted to impute the data in the Northern hemisphere using the ANN model, which subsequently confirmed the existence of the Great Attractor and the homogeneity of the Universe. In this paper, the author has imputed the Southern Hemisphere and discovered a region that is mostly devoid of stars. Since this area appears to be the counterpart to the Great Attractor, the author refers to it as the Great Repeller and postulates that it is an area of physical repulsion, inline with the work of GerdPommerenke and others. Finally, the paper investigates large scale structures in the imputed galaxies.展开更多

文摘Surface ozone(O3)is a secondary pollutant harmful to human health and a greenhouse gas which is one of the prime climate forcers.Due to the clean atmospheric environment of the Antarctic region and given the complexity of O3 chemistry, the observation of surface O3 variability in this region is necessary in the quest to better understand the potential sources and sink of polar surface O3.In this paper,we highlighted our observations on O3 variability at the Great Wall Station(GWS)during austral summer in December 2018 and January 2019.The continuous surface O3 measurement at the GWS,Antarctica was carried out using the Ecotech Ozone analyzer. To understand the roles of the meteorological conditions on the temporal variations of O3,meteorological data was obtained from the conventional auto-observational station at the GWS.The Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory(HYSPLIT)model was employed to investigate the air mass transport over the region. The observed austral summer surface O3 concentrations at the GWS exhibited variability and were significantly lower than those previously observed at other permanent coastal stations in Antarctica. The surface ozone variability at the GWS was strongly influenced by the synoptic change of air mass origin although the roles of photochemistry production and destruction were still uncertain.Marine characteristics and stable surface O3 characterized the air masses that reached the GWS.The unique characteristic of surface O3 at the coastal site of GWS was emphasized by its synoptic air mass characteristics, which displayed a significant influence on surface O3 variability.Air mass that traveled over the ocean with relatively shorter distance was linked to the lower O3 level, whereby the marine transport of reactive bromine(Br)species was thought to play a significant role in the tropospheric chemistry that leads to O3 destruction.Meanwhile, the diurnal variation indicated that the O3 background concentration levels were not strongly associated with the local atmospheric conditions.

文摘Six new chrysophycean stomatocysts ornamented with reticulum were illustrated based on SEM observation. They were described following the guidelines of the International Statospore Working Group (ISWG). All samples were collected from the Great Xing'an Mountains, China. Their taxonomic characteristics and habitats were described to provide new information on the biodiversity of chrysophycean stomatocysts. As is common with many morphotypes, their biological affinities remain unknown.

文摘The protection zones or capture zones of springs in desert environments can be hard to identify, but they are critical to spring protection. Most springs fed by regional aquifers are susceptible to contamination and groundwater development. The U.S.Environmental Protection Agency has established hydrogeologic mapping methods to delineate protection zones for springs. However,it is often difficult to determine a regional aquifer system's flow pattern with this technique alone, and the use of these methods is not conducive to efficient groundwater management.Particle tracking analysis using a well-conceptualized and calibrated numerical model for the three-dimensional groundwater flow domain feeding a given group of springs can help facilitate the identification of spring capture zone boundaries.Building upon this basis,a multifaceted approach was developed to define clear boundaries of the capture zones for the springs in the Furnace Creek,Ash Meadows, and the Muddy River areas in the southern Great Basin,USA.Capture zones were first delineated from inverse particle tracking and Hydrologic Unit 12 watersheds.Afterwards, they were adjusted based on water budgets, geology, and hydrologically significant faults. Finally,a geochemical analysis of the groundwater chemistry and isotopic data was conducted to verify the extent of each spring capture zone. This multifaceted approach adds confidence to the new delineations.
文摘Mythology plays an important role in the sustenance of a particular community. It embeds the ancient knowledge that percolates through folktales into the knowledge system of that community. However, such mythologies have often been dismissed by votaries of scientific knowledge on the ground that these mythologies are preposterous and do not have scientific basis.Consequently, the traditional form of knowledge which has helped in the sustenance of particular community is disrupted. It eventually led to invasion of alien ideas and culture which is not conducive for the growth and protection of that community life.As a result, the relation between man and nature is also disrupted. The present world has been ripped apart by the onslaught of industrialisation in the name of progress and development and people have turned immensely materialistic and as such have not only lost their reverence for nature, but also have facilitated into the decadence of their traditional system of knowledge that otherwise would have shielded the affinity between man and nature.Amitav Ghosh talks about this problem in his non-fiction The Great Derangement;and similarly many Indian writers have also addressed this issue through stories, poetry, and fiction.Eastern Kire Iralu is one such writer from the Northeast India who has blended myth and folktale in her novella titled The Son of the Thundercloud. Her purpose is to allegorie the pathetic plight of the people in present-day world because of their irreverence to nature. She does it by invoking myth and folktale. She has shown in her novella that how ancient system of knowledge, through folk tales, tries to provide valuable knowledge that is required for sustenance of mankind. This paper analyses the novella of Eastrine Kire Iralu which offers a way-out from the present day crisis mentioned by Amitabh Ghosh.Easterine Kire Iralu’s novella has established the importance of folktales in primitive societies and its relevance in the present day world.Kire has bended mythology and realism to show the symbiotic relationship between man and nature and thereby she establishes the indispensability of storytellers’role in bailing out mankind of the present crisis.
