Research on the Integration of Teaching Group in Colleges and Universities

Teaching and group learning are two important parts of higher education,which have their own educational functions and expressions.In the new era,higher education must innovate and reform the traditional educational model.On the basis of analyzing the present situation of traditional teaching and group education,this paper puts forward the necessity of the integration of teaching group learning,and emphatically explains the practical predicament and countermeasures of the integration of teaching group learning.

Applying Communicative Teaching Method in English-teaching Classroom

Communicative language teaching is generally accepted in the field of second language teaching. In this paper, the author introduces a model of communicative language teaching. The authors also mention some practical requirements and methods in the application of this model, such as authentic materials and group work.

On improving students＇ communicative competence by group interaction

In foreign language teaching, the communicative approach has been a dominant method for decades. However, some misconceptions of the communicative approach affect the results of group interaction teaching. This article tries to explore some existing problems as well as some relevant solution in the application of group activities in colleges with the aid of observation, questionnaire and interview.

A novel improved teaching and learning-based-optimization algorithm and its application in a large-scale inventory control system

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel improved teaching and learning-based algorithm(TLBO)to enhance its convergence ability and solution accuracy,making it more suitable for solving large-scale optimization issues.Design/methodology/approach–Utilizing multiple cooperation mechanisms in teaching and learning processes,an improved TBLO named CTLBO(collectivism teaching-learning-based optimization)is developed.This algorithm introduces a new preparation phase before the teaching and learning phases and applies multiple teacher–learner cooperation strategies in teaching and learning processes.Applying modularizationidea,based on the configuration structure of operators ofCTLBO,six variants ofCTLBOare constructed.Foridentifying the best configuration,30 general benchmark functions are tested.Then,three experiments using CEC2020(2020 IEEE Conference on Evolutionary Computation)-constrained optimization problems are conducted to compare CTLBO with other algorithms.At last,a large-scale industrial engineering problem is taken as the application case.Findings–Experiment with 30 general unconstrained benchmark functions indicates that CTLBO-c is the best configuration of all variants of CTLBO.Three experiments using CEC2020-constrained optimization problems show that CTLBO is one powerful algorithm for solving large-scale constrained optimization problems.The application case of industrial engineering problem shows that CTLBO and its variant CTLBO-c can effectively solve the large-scale real problem,while the accuracies of TLBO and other meta-heuristic algorithm are far lower than CLTBO and CTLBO-c,revealing that CTLBO and its variants can far outperform other algorithms.CTLBO is an excellent algorithm for solving large-scale complex optimization issues.Originality/value–The innovation of this paper lies in the improvement strategies in changing the original TLBO with two-phase teaching–learning mechanism to a new algorithm CTLBO with three-phase multiple cooperation teaching–learning mechanism,self-learning mechanism in teaching and group teaching mechanism.CTLBO has important application value in solving large-scale optimization problems.

THE USE OF GROUP ERROR CORRECTION IN ENGLISH TEACHING TO INCREASE LEARNER INVOLVEMENT

In view of the major defect of the traditionalteacher correction,this paper introduces a new ap-proach to error correction—group error correction,inwhich learners’ role in learning language is greatly in-creased.Group error correction can be used to correcterrors in students’ oral work,group work and writtenwork,both in class and after class.Half a year’spractice of group error correction shows that it helpsincrease learner involvement in the teaching and learn-ing process,stimulate learner motivation in learningthe foreign language,raise the learners’ awareness oferrors,facilitate learners’ learning of the foreign lan-guage,relieve the teacher’s burden,and helps theteacher make better teaching plans.Error correction is an enormously complex pro-cess(Ellis,1994,p585).As for which is the most ef-fective method to correct errors,researchers havenot reached an agreement.Therefore more effortsneed to be made in this field.

TEACHING WRITING THOUGH SMALL GROUP CONFERENCING

In view of the fact that most college English teachers in China invest a great deal of time andeffort responding to students’ writing,but find students improve so little in their writing skills,I ventureto put forward an alternative way of teaching writing in the paper,that is,teaching writing throughsmall group conferencing.Compared with the traditional teaching methods,small group conferencing hasfollowing advantages:(1)Saving evaluation time;(2)Providing better feedback;(3)Helping studentscritique their writing,etc.Since many empirical studies and teaching practices demonstrate that smallgroup conferencing is an effective and efficient way of teaching writing,we have good reason to believethat it will become widespread in the college English teaching in China.

Design of Characteristic Curriculum on Software Engineering Major for Undergraduate-Graduate Education

The concept of“New Engineering”has put forward new challenges to the talents cultivation of universities.Due to some problems of the traditional Software Engineering curriculum,e.g.separated design at undergraduate-level and graduate-level courses,poor curriculum structure,lacking of industry characteristics.This paper proposes an integrated undergraduate-graduate education curriculum for Software Engineering Major,which is based on Software Engineering specialty knowledge system(C-SWEBOK)and focuses on the current national strategic demands.Additionally,the curriculum combines with the University’s transportation characteristics,and fuses the discipline of Software Engineering and Intelligent Transportation.The multi-level curriculum designed in this paper is with reasonable structure,complete system,progressive content,and salient feature,which provides the strong support for cultivating high-qualified software talents in line with national strategies and industry needs.

GROUP WORK IN TEACHING PRACTICE

Introduction Teaching practice (TP) is an essential component of the English course at Teachers’ colleges in China, in which new recruits are provided with a platform to put what they learn in the training programme into practice. The radical change from learner to teacher usually means a difficult beginning for trainees, although they have first-hand experience of learning English as a foreign language. Facing a textbook, of which each lesson consists of several components: new words, sentence patterns, text, grammar, and exercises, they are required to work out lesson plans which will ensure the achievement of the teaching objectives.
