Facies characterization of Piacenzian (late Pliocene) carbonate sediments of the Guitar Formation in Car Nicobar Island,India and the subsequent integration of paleoecological data have been applied to interpret the...Facies characterization of Piacenzian (late Pliocene) carbonate sediments of the Guitar Formation in Car Nicobar Island,India and the subsequent integration of paleoecological data have been applied to interpret the paleoenvironment of the coralline algal-reef deposits.Thin-section analysis reveals that Amphiroa,Corallina and Jania are the dominant geniculate corallines,while Lithothamnion,Mesophyllum,Phymatolithon,Lithophyllum,Spongites and Lithoporella are the major non-geniculate corallines contributing to the sedimentary facies.Numerous small and larger benthic foraminifera also dominate the biogenic assemblages.Corals,barnacle shells,echinoid spines,fragments of bryozoans,mollusks and ostracodes are the subordinate constituents.Grainstones dominate the studied facies while packstones and boundstones (with wackestone elements) are the sub lithofacies showing a fair representation.Six carbonate facies presenting a complete reef complex have been distinguished that were deposited in shallow intertidal,back-reef shelf/lagoon,reef and deeper fore-reef shelf settings.Evidences of coralline algal and benthic foraminiferal assemblages,taphonomic signatures of abrasion and fragmentation,grain size,angularity and encrustation indicate a shallow to relatively deeper bathymetric horizon of approximately 10-60 m that corresponds to a regime of high to moderate hydrodynamic conditions.展开更多

Also, the tonal quality is influenced by the correct combination of tempo along with pitch, harmony, and melo...The produced sound quality of guitar primarily depends on vibrational characteristics of the resonance box. Also, the tonal quality is influenced by the correct combination of tempo along with pitch, harmony, and melody in order to find music pleasurable. In this study, the resonance frequencies of the modelled resonance box have been analysed. The free-free modal analysis was performed in <em>ABAQUS</em> to obtain the modes shapes of the un-constrained sound box. To find music pleasing to the ear, the right pitch must be set, which is achieved by tuning the guitar strings. In order to analyse the sound elements, the Fourier analysis method was chosen and implemented in <em>MATLAB</em>. Identification of fundamentals and overtones of the individual string sounds were carried out prior and after tuning the string. The untuned strings showed irregular fundamental frequencies and higher partials of decay. Octaves and power spectrums have been presented and discussed in this paper.展开更多
Device-assisted practice for instrument learning has been widely used by professional and amateur musicians to improve their learning efficiency.This study fabricates a novel self-powered and flexible player-interacti...Device-assisted practice for instrument learning has been widely used by professional and amateur musicians to improve their learning efficiency.This study fabricates a novel self-powered and flexible player-interactive patch for guitar-learning assistance based on a piezoelectric T-ZnO/PVDF film.The system consists primarily of three parts:a flexible piezoelectric T-ZnO/PVDF film for pressure sensing,a signal processing module for analyzing the sensed signal,and light-emitting diode(LED)indicators for visualizing guitar performance.The sensing film can be conformably fixed on a guitar and can convert the mechanical energy generated by pressing a finger on a string into a piezoelectric signal without any external power supply.The output voltage of the film can act as a sensing signal for guitar performance,and both the response and recovery times are short.As fingers press on different strings,a series of piezoelectric signals are generated and transferred to the signal processing module,subsequently lighting up LEDs of different colors.The actions of the fingers during guitar playing are reflected by the corresponding LED indicators.The proposed system can help players adjust their posture and rhythm in real time,thus improving their playing technique.This study demonstrates the potential application of self-powered sensing systems in musical instrument learning assistance.展开更多
