Patients and Methods: Case control study was conducted at a university hospital to compare the protein profile of aqueous humour obtained from patients of primary open angle glaucoma with those of non glaucomatous subjects. Protein concentration of the aqueous humour samples collected from both glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous patients at the time of surgery was estimated by the Bradford protein assay method. Sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the samples was also performed. Results: Geometric mean of protein concentration of the samples was 55.73 mg/dl (range: 31-72) in the test group and 46.46 mg/dl (range: 27-65) in the control group and a statistically significant (p ≤= 0.001) difference in protein concentration of aqueous humour between the two groups was observed. Electrophoretic study revealed differences in the aqueous protein composition of the two groups. The glaucomatous group exhibited protein bands of 10 kDa, 20 kDa, 30 kDa, 50 kDa, 60 kDa, 70 kDa, and 90 kDa while the control subjects demonstrated bands of 6 kDa, 10 kDa, 30 kDa, 70 kDa, 90 kDa. Interestingly, almost all the proteins detected in this study corresponded to the molecular weights of heat shock proteins. Conclusions: Primary open angle glaucoma patients differed in protein compositions and had higher concentration of aqueous humour proteins than non glaucomatous patients.展开更多

The small scale study employs a more ethnographic methodology, namely, recording spontaneous and natural spoken conversation from authentic workplace interaction with the permission of the head chef. Cell-phone is used to record discourse under most circumstances since it is hard to be noticed. Then discourse analyze provides data making it possible to explore some of the diverse functions of humour as a form of politeness and to explain how gender identity is dynamically conducted, maintained, challenged and subverted in different humorous discourse from the CofP perspective. Widely cited features of feminine and masculine interactional styles have been applied for the compare and contrast in discussion. Even though some trends are suggested at the end of the discussion, we could not forget politeness, humour and gender are complicated issues requiring more in-depth context-based ethnographic studies.展开更多

GTVH benefits the study of humour translation by providing an analytical framework of six Knowledge Resources which include Language(LA), Narrative Strategy(NS), Target(TA), Situation(SI), Logical Mechanism(LM) and Script Opposition(SO). The hierarchy of Knowledge Resources is used to make an analysis of the internal structure of humour and Relevance theory functions as a translation theory to check whether the translation is appropriate to achieve optimal relevance. Taking the translation examples from British TV sitcoms"Yes, Prime Minister"and"Little Britain",the thesis probes into the most important Knowledge Resources in these three kinds of humour respectively, analyzes the loss and gain of humour reproduction in fansubbers' translation and makes a few adjustments to some inappropriate translation versions to"achieve the maximization of relevance".展开更多

These three strategies are the most commonly seen and used in translation works, and are of signifi-cant value in helping people to understand translated TV subtitles and to promote cross-cultural communication.展开更多
