Hard carbon(HC)is widely used in sodium-ion batteries(SIBs),but its performance has always been limited by lowinitial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and cycling stability.Cathode compensation agent is a favorable strategy to make up for the loss of active sodium ions consumed byHCanode.Yet it lacks agent that effectively decomposes to increase the active sodium ions as well as regulate carbon defects for decreasing the irreversible sodium ions consumption. Here,we propose 1,2-dihydroxybenzene Na salt(NaDB)as a cathode compensation agent with high specific capacity(347.9 mAh g^(-1)),lower desodiation potential(2.4–2.8 V)and high utilization(99%).Meanwhile,its byproduct could functionalize HC with more C=O groups and promote its reversible capacity.Consequently, the presodiation hard carbon(pHC)anode exhibits highly reversible capacity of 204.7 mAh g^(-1) with 98%retention at 5 C rate over 1000 cycles. Moreover, with 5 wt%NaDB initially coated on the Na3V2(PO4)3(NVP)cathode,the capacity retention of NVP + NaDB|HC cell could increase from 22%to 89%after 1000 cycles at 1 C rate. This work provides a new avenue to improve reversible capacity and cycling performance of SIBs through designing functional cathode compensation agent. 展开更多

The vibration response and noise caused by subway trains can affect the safety and comfort of superstructures. To study the dynamic response characteristics of subway stations and superstructures under train loads with a hard combination,a numerical model is developed in this study. The indoor model test verified the accuracy of the numerical model. The influence laws of different hard combinations, train operating speeds and modes were studied and evaluated accordingly. The results show that the frequency corresponding to the peak vibration acceleration level of each floor of the superstructure property is concentrated at 10–20 Hz.The vibration response decreases in the high-frequency parts and increases in the lowfrequency parts with increasing distance from the source.Furthermore, the factors, such as train operating speed, operating mode, and hard combination type, will affect the vibration of the superstructure. The vibration response under the reversible operation of the train is greater than that of the unidirectional operation. The operating speed of the train is proportional to its vibration response. The vibration amplification area appears between the middle and the top of the superstructure at a higher train speed. Its vibration acceleration level will exceed the limit value of relevant regulations, and vibration-damping measures are required.Within the scope of application, this study provides some suggestions for constructing subway stations and superstructures. 展开更多

In this study,a novel microwave-water cooling-assisted mechanical rock breakage method was proposed to address the issues of severe tool wear at elevated temperatures, poor rock microwave absorption, and excessive microwave energy consumption. The investigation object was sandstone, which was irradiated at 4 kW microwave power for 60 s,180 s,300 s,and 420 s,followed by air and water cooling.Subsequently, uniaxial compression,Brazilian tension, and fracture tests were conducted. The evolution of damage in sandstone was measured using active and passive nondestructive acoustic detection methods. The roughness of the fracture surfaces of the specimens was quantified using the box-counting method. The damage mechanisms of microwave heating and water cooling on sandstone were discussed from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives. The experimental results demonstrated that as the duration of the microwave irradiation increased, the P-wave velocity, uniaxial compressive strength(UCS),elastic modulus(E),tensile strength, and fracture toughness of sandstone exhibited various degrees of weakness and were further weakened by water cooling.Furthermore,an increase in the microwave irradiation duration enhanced the damaging effect of water cooling. The P-wave velocity of the sandstone was proportional to the mechanical parameters.Microwave heating and water cooling weakened the brittleness of the sandstone to a certain extent. The fractal dimension of the fracture surface was correlated with the duration of microwave heating, and the water-cooling treatment resulted in a rougher fracture surface. An analysis of the instantaneous cutting rate revealed that water cooling can substantially enhance the efficiency of microwave-assisted rock breakage. 展开更多

Hard carbon is regarded as a promising anode candidate for sodium-ion batteries due to its low cost, relatively low working voltage, and satisfactory specific capacity. However,it still remains a challenge to obtain a high-performance hard carbon anode from cost-effective carbon sources. In addition, the solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)is subjected to continuous rupture during battery cycling, leading to fast capacity decay.Herein,a lignin-based hard carbon with robust SEI is developed to address these issues, effectively killing two birds with one stone. An innovative gas-phase removal-assisted aqueous washing strategy is developed to remove excessive sodium in the precursor to upcycle industrial lignin into high-value hard carbon, which demonstrated an ultrahigh sodium storage capacity of 359 mAh g^(-1).It is found that the residual sodium components from lignin on hard carbon act as active sites that controllably regulate the composition and morphology of SEI and guide homogeneous SEI growth by a near-shore aggregation mechanism to form thin, dense, and organic-rich SEI.Benefiting from these merits, the as-developed SEI shows fast Na+transfer at the interphases and enhanced structural stability, thus preventing SEI rupture and reformation, and ultimately leading to a comprehensive improvement in sodium storage performance. 展开更多

To achieve the loading of the stress path of hard rock, the spherical discrete element model(DEM)and the new flexible membrane technology were utilized to realize the transient loading of three principal stresses with arbitrary magnitudes and orientations.Furthermore, based on the deep tunnel of China Jinping Underground Laboratory II(CJPL-II),the deformation and fracture evolution characteristics of deep hard rock induced by excavation stress path were analyzed, and the mechanisms of transient loading-unloading and stress rotation-induced fractures were revealed from a mesoscopic perspective. The results indicated that the stressestrain curve exhibits different trends and degrees of sudden changes when subjected to transient changes in principal stress, accompanied by sudden changes in strain rate.Stress rotation induces spatially directional deformation, resulting in fractures of different degrees and orientations, and increasing the degree of deformation anisotropy. The correlation between the degree of induced fracture and the unloading magnitude of minimum principal stress,as well as its initial level is significant and positive. The process of mechanical response during transient unloading exhibits clear nonlinearity and directivity. After transient unloading, both the minimum principal stress and minimum principal strain rate decrease sharply and then tend to stabilize. This occurs from the edge to the interior and from the direction of the minimum principal stress to the direction of the maximum principal stress on theε1-ε3 plane.Transient unloading will induce a tensile stress wave. The ability to induce fractures due to changes in principal stress magnitude, orientation and rotation paths gradually increases. The analysis indicates a positive correlation between the abrupt change amplitude of strain rate and the maximum unloading magnitude, which is determined by the magnitude and rotation of principal stress.A high tensile strain rate is more likely to induce fractures under low minimum principal stress. 展开更多

To accelerate the development and design of magnesium(Mg)alloys, the structural and mechanical properties of important precipitates in Mg−Zn alloys were studied by experiments and density functional theory. The nano-indentation tests revealed that the hardness of the precipitates initially increased and then decreased with increasing Zn content, and was significantly higher than that of pure Mg and Zn.The calculation results revealed that the precipitates stability initially increased and then decreased with increasing Zn concentration. The bulk moduli of the precipitates increased, whereas their shear and Young’s moduli initially increased and then decreased with increasing Zn content. The decreasing order of ductility for these compounds is MgZn_(2)>Mg_(21)Zn_(25)>Mg_(2)Zn_(11)>Mg_(4)Zn_(7).The surface profiles of the compounds revealed that they are obvious anisotropy. Both the degree of covalency and bond length of covalent bonds initially increased and then decreased with increasing Zn content. 展开更多

In low-density steel,κ-carbides primarily precipitate in the form of nanoscale particles within austenite grains. However, their precipitation within ferrite matrix grains has not been comprehensively explored, and the second-phase evolution mechanism during aging remains unclear. In this study, the crystallographic characteristics and morphological evolution ofκ-carbides in Fe-28Mn-10Al-0.8C(wt%)low-density steel at different aging temperatures and times and the impacts of these changes on the steels’microhardness and properties were comprehensively analyzed.Under different heat treatment conditions,intragranularκ-carbides exhibited various morpho-logical and crystallographic characteristics, such as acicular, spherical, and short rod-like shapes. At the initial stage of aging,acicularκ-carbides primarily precipitated, accompanied by a few spherical carbides.κ-Carbides grew and coarsened with aging time, the spherical carbides were considerably reduced, and rod-like carbides coarsened.Vickers hardness testing demonstrated that the material’s hardness was affected by the volume fraction, morphology, and size ofκ-carbides.Extended aging at higher temperatures led to an increase in carbide size and volume fraction, resulting in a gradual rise in hardness.During deformation, the primary mechanisms for strengthening were dislocation strengthening and second-phase strengthening.Based on these findings, potential strategies for improving material strength are proposed. 展开更多

The deformation in sedimentary rock induced by train loads has potential threat to the safe operation of tunnels. This study investigated the influence of stratification structure on the infrared radiation and temporal damage mechanism of hard siltstone. The uniaxial compression tests, coupled with acoustic emission(AE) and infrared radiation temperature(IRT) were conducted on siltstones with different stratification effects. The results revealed that the stratigraphic structure significantly affects the stress-strain response and strength degradation characteristics. The mechanical parameters exhibit anisotropy characteristics, and the stratification effect exhibits a negative correlation with the cracking stress and peak stress. The failure modes caused by the stratification effect show remarkable anisotropic features, including splitting failure(Ⅰ: 0°-22.50°, Ⅱ: 90°), composite failure(45°), and shearing failure(67.50°). The AE temporal sequences demonstrate a stepwise response characteristic to the loading stress level. The AE intensity indicates that the stress sensitivity of shearing failure and composite failure is generally greater than that of splitting failure. The IRT field has spatiotemporal migration and progressive dissimilation with stress loading and its dissimilation degree increases under higher stress levels. The stronger the stratification effect, the greater the dissimilation degree of the IRT field. The abnormal characteristic points of average infrared radiation temperature(AIRT) variance at local stress drop and peak stress can be used as early and late precursors to identify fracture instability. Theoretical analysis shows that the competitive relationship between compaction strengthening and fracturing damage intensifies the dissimilation of the infrared thermal field for an increasing stress level. The present study provides a theoretical reference for disaster warnings in hard sedimentary rock mass. 展开更多

The chemical activation of various precursors is effective for creating additional closed pores in hard carbons for sodium storage. However, the formation mechanism of closed pores under the influence of pore-forming agents is not well understood.Herein,an effective chemical activation followed by a high-temperature self-healing strategy is employed to generate interconnected closed pores in lignin-derived hard carbon(HCs).By systematic experimental design combined with electron paramagnetic res-onance spectroscopy,it can be found that the content of free radicals in the carbon matrix influences the closure of open pores at high temperatures.Excessively high activation temperature(>700 C)leads to a low free radical concentration, making it difficult to achieve self-healing of open pores at high tempera-tures.By activation at 700°C,a balance between pore making and self-healing is achieved in the final hard carbon.A large number of free radicals triggers rapid growth and aggregation of carbon microcrys-tals,blocking pre-formed open micropores and creating additional interconnected closed pores in as-obtained hard carbons. As a result, the optimized carbon anode(LK-700-1300)delivers a high reversible capacity of 330.8 mA h g^(-1) at 0.03 A g^(-1),which is an increase of 86 mA h g^(-1) compared to the pristine lignin-derived carbon anode(L-700-1300),and exhibits a good rate performance(202.1 mA h g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1)).This work provides a universal and effective guidance for tuning closed pores of hard carbons from otherprecursors. 展开更多

To investigate the long-term stability of deep rocks,a three-dimensional(3D)time-dependent model that accounts for excavation-induced damage and complex stress state is developed. This model comprises three main components:a 3D viscoplastic isotropic constitutive relation that considers excavation damage and complex stress state,a quantitative relationship between critical irreversible deformation and complex stress state, and evolution characteristics of strength parameters. The proposed model is implemented in a self-developed numerical code,i.e.CASRock.The reliability of the model is validated through experiments. It is indicated that the time-dependent fracturing potential index(xTFPI)at a given time during the attenuation creep stage shows a negative correlation with the extent of excavationinduced damage. The time-dependent fracturing process of rock demonstrates a distinct interval effect of the intermediate principal stress, thereby highlighting the 3D stress-dependent characteristic of the model. Finally, the influence of excavation-induced damage and intermediate principal stress on the time-dependent fracturing characteristics of the surrounding rocks around the tunnel is discussed. 展开更多

To further research on high-parameter plasma,we plan to develop a two-dimensional hard X-ray(HXR)imaging system at the HL-3 tokamak to measure HXRs with energies ranging from 20 to 300 keV.The application of an array-structured detector ensures that this system can measure HXR-radiation spectra from the entire plasma cross section. Therefore,it is suitable for the study of fast-electron physics, such as radio-frequency wave current drives, fast electrons driving instabilities, and plasma disruptions in fusion research. In this study,we develop a simulation for calculating fast-electron bremsstrahlung in the HL-3 tokamak based on the Monte Carlo simulation code Geant4,in which the plasma geometry and forward scattering of fast-electron bremsstrahlung are considered. The preliminary calculation results indicate that the HXR energy deposi-tion on the detector is symmetrically distributed, even though the plasma distribution is asymmetric owing to the toroidal effect. These simulation results are helpful in constructing the relationship between the energy deposition on the detector and parameter distribution on the plasma cross section during HL-3 experiments. This is beneficial for the reconstruction of the fast-electron-distribution function and for optimizing the design of the HXR-imaging system. 展开更多

This study investigates the effect of the deformation mode on the precipitation behavior of an extruded Mg-8.0Al-0.5Zn-0.2Mn(AZ80)alloy.The alloy samples are compared after the application of 3.5%tension and 3.5%compression along the extrusion direction to induce slip-dominant and twinning-dominant deformation modes, respectively. The pre-compressed(PC)sample,which contained numerous{10-12}tension twins, has a reduced grain size and a higher internal strain than the pre-tensioned(PT)sample,which is attributed to the inherent internal strain that occurs during the formation and growth of the twins. As a result, the precipitation behavior of the PC sample is accelerated, leading to its short peak aging time of 32 h,which is lower than those of the PT and as-extruded samples(48 and 100 h,respectively).Furthermore, fine continuous precipitates(CPs)rapidly form within the{10-12}twins,contributing to the enhanced hardness.Discontinuous precipitates(DPs),which have a hardness comparable to the CP-containing twinned regions,in the PC sample experience less coarsening during aging than those in the PT sample due to growth inhibition by the{10-12}twins.Ultimately,the{10-12}twins generated under the twinning-dominant deformation condition lead to enhanced precipitation behaviors, including the preferential formation and refinement of CPs and the suppressed coarsening of DPs.Consequently,pre-deformation that occurs{10-12}twinning exhibits more pronounced effects on precipitation acceleration and microstructural modification than slip-inducing pre-deformation. 展开更多

Ethylene tar is a prospective precursor for preparing carbonaceous materials, which is regarded as a representative soft carbon material after carbonization. However, the introduction of oxygen can influence the morphology of the final carbonaceous materials. For the introduction of oxygen, dealkylation and dehydrogenation will be promoted and the molecules can be linked more effectively. For the subsequent carbonization, the biphenyl structures caused by the deoxygenation via the elimination of CO_(2),as well as the reserved aromatic ether bonds, can facilitate the strong cross-linking,which will restrain the movement of the carbon layers and the formation of the graphitic structures. After the graphitization treatment at 2800℃,the oxidized pitch can lead to short-range ordered and long-range unordered structures, while the sample without oxidation can result in long-range ordered graphitic structures. It can be proved that a simple oxidation-carbonization treatment can transform ethylene tar into hard carbon structures. 展开更多

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have great potential to be the next major energy storage devices due to their obvious advantages and developing advanced electrodes and electrolytes is urgently necessary to promote its future industrialization. However, hard carbon as a state-of-the-art anode of SIBs still suffers from the low initial Coulomb efficiency and unsatisfactory rate capability, which could be improved by forming desirable solid electrolyte interphases (SEI) to some extent.Indeed, the chemistry and morphology of these interfacial layers are fundamental parameters affecting the overall battery operation, and optimizing the electrolyte to dictate the quality of SEI on hard carbon is a key strategy.Hence, this review summarizes the recent research on SEI design by electrolyte manipulation from solvents, salts, and additives. It also presents some potential mechanisms of SEI formation in various electrolyte systems.Besides, the current advanced characterization techniques for electrolyte and SEI structure analyses have been comprehensively discussed.Lastly, current challenges and future perspectives of SEI formation on hard carbon anode for SIBs are provided from the viewpoints of its compositions, evolution processes, structures, and characterization techniques, which will promote SEI efficient manipulation and improve the performance of hard carbon, and further contribute to the development of SIBs. 展开更多

A surface Ti-WC composite was fabricated on CP-Ti by surface friction stirring(SFS)using a pinless WC-Cotool at a processing window of 800−2500 r/min and 8−50 mm/min.At 1600 r/min-50 mm/min,a defect-free compositelayer with an average hardness of~HV 1170 is formed. The hardness was increased by WC and TiN reinforcingparticles, dissolved Co atoms in Ti,and the formation of ultrafine grains.WC particles were incorporated into the Tisubstrate owing to the intense frictional interaction/heating at the tool-plate interface(~1000℃),which led to strengthloss and wear of the tool. The Williamson-Hall analysis of the XRD peaks of the SFSed sample confirmed a significantlysmall crystallite size(~100 nm).Wear tests showed that the wear resistance of the composite structure was about 4.5times higher than that of the CP-Ti.Friction analysis revealed a significant reduction in average value and fluctuations ofthe friction coefficient. 展开更多

Fast charging is restricted primarily by the risk of lithium(Li)plating,a side reaction that can lead to the rapid capacity decay and dendrite-induced thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).Investigation on the intrinsic mechanism and the position of Li plating is crucial to improving the fast rechargeability and safety of LIBs.Herein,we investigate the Li plating behavior in porous electrodes under the restricted transport of Li^(+).Based on the theoretical model,it can be concluded that the Li plating on the anodeseparator interface(ASI)is thermodynamically feasible and kinetically advantageous.Meanwhile, the prior deposition of metal Li on the ASI rather than the anode-current collector interface(ACI)is verified experimentally. In order to facilitate the transfer of Li^(+)among the electrode and improve the utilization of active materials without Li plating,a bilayer asymmetric anode composed of graphite and hard carbon(GH)is proposed.Experimental and simulation results suggest that the GH hybrid electrode homogenizes the lithiated-rate throughout the electrode and outperforms the pure graphite electrode in terms of the rate performance and inhibition of Li plating. This work provides new insights into the behavior of Li plating and the rational design of electrode structure. 展开更多

The engineering of plant-based precursor for nitrogen doping has become one of the most promising strategies to enhance rate capability of hard carbon materials for sodium-ion batteries;however, the poor rate performance is mainly caused by lack of pyridine nitrogen, which often tends to escape because of high temperature in preparation process of hard carbon. In this paper,a high-rate kapok fiber-derived hard carbon is fabricated by cross-linking carboxyl group in 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid with the exposed hydroxyl group on alkalized kapok with assistance of zinc chloride.Specially,a high nitrogen doping content of 4.24%is achieved, most of which are pyridine nitrogen;this is crucial for improving the defect sites and electronic conductivity of hard carbon. The optimized carbon with feature of high nitrogen content, abundant functional groups, degree of disorder, and large layer spacing exhibits high capacity of 401.7 mAh g^(−1)at a current density of 0.05 A g^(−1),and more importantly, good rate performance, for example, even at the current density of 2 A g^(−1),a specific capacity of 159.5 mAh g^(−1)can be obtained. These findings make plant-based hard carbon a promising candidate for commercial application of sodium-ion batteries, achieving high-rate performance with the enhanced pre-cross-linking interaction between plant precursors and dopants to optimize aromatization process by auxiliary pyrolysis. 展开更多

Roof disaster has always been an important factor restricting coal mine safety production.Acidic effect can reform the rock mass structure to weaken the macroscopic strength characteristics, which is an effective way to control the hard limestone roof.In this study, the effects of various factors on the reaction characteristics and mechanical properties of limestone were analyzed. The results show that the acid with stronger hydrogen production capacity after ionization(pK_(a)<0)has more prominent damage to the mineral grains of limestone. When pKa increases from−8.00 to 15.70,uniaxial compressive strength and elastic modulus of limestone increase by 117.22%and 75.98%.The influence of acid concentration is manifested in the dissolution behavior of mineral crystals, the crystal defects caused by large-scale acid action will lead to the deterioration of limestone strength, and the strength after 15%concentration reformation can be reduced by 59.42%.The effect of acidification time on limestone has stages and is the most obvious in the initial metathesis reaction stage(within 60 min). The key to the strength damage of acidified limestone is the participation of hydrogen ions in the reaction system.Based on the analytic hierarchy process method, the influence weights of acid type, acid concentration and acidification time on strength are 24.30%,59.54% and 16.16%,respectively.The research results provide theoretical support for the acidification control of hard limestone roofs in coal mines. 展开更多
