To analyze teenagers’ lifestyles with healthy weight against overweight and obesity. Method: Descriptive, transverse, analytic and comparative, a non-probabilistic sampling distributed up to convenience in 2 groups of cases and controls, with 50 teenagers diagnosed with overweight and obesity and 50 teenagers with healthy weight, in a 12 to 15 years old age range;for previous informed consent, the survey Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II was applied to measure the lifestyles in 6 dimensions. The analysis got a standard deviation and the association of variables U of Mann-Whitney for independent samples. Results: In both teenagers’ groups male gender prevailed with a 76%, the result in teenagers’ group was identified, an average lifestyle with the dimensions of: interpersonal relationships, feeding, physical activity, stress management and spiritual growth and a low level in the dimension of health responsibility. There is a meaningful difference in the variables association in the spiritual growth lifestyle. Conclusions: The evaluation of both groups is similar to an average score;this shows that there is a risk to unleash overweight, obesity and complications in the adult age of the teenager. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Needle stick and sharps injuries(NSIs)may cause infections among medical personnel.Obesity and overtime work among medical personnel increase the incidence of work injuries.AIM To investigate whether overtime work and obesity increase the risk of NSIs.METHODS This cross-sectional study used the data of 847 hospital personnel, including 104 doctors,613 nurses,67 medical laboratory scientists,54 specialist technicians, and nine surgical assistants.Of them,29 participants notified the hospital of having at least one NSI in 2017.The data collected included age, overtime work, body mass index, medical specialty such as doctor or nurse, and professional grade such as attending physician or resident.Theχ2 and Fisher’s exact tests were used to compare categorical variables.Multiple logistic regression analysis and the Sobel test were used to assess the risk of NSIs.RESULTS Overtime work, body weight, and medical specialty were significantly associated with NSIs(P<0.05).After adjustment for risk factors, heavy overtime work was an independent risk factor for NSIs,and healthy body weight and nursing specialty were independent protective factors against NSIs.After adjustment for risk factors, medical personnel with healthy body weight has half as many NSIs as those with unhealthy body weight;the proportion of NSIs in doctors with healthy body weight was 0.2 times that in doctors with unhealthy body weight;the proportion of injuries among residents was 17.3 times higher than that among attending physicians;the proportion of injuries among junior nurses was 3.9 times higher than that among experienced nurses;the proportion of injuries among nurses with heavy overtime work was 6.6 times higher than that among nurses with mild overtime work;and the proportion of injuries among residents was 19.5 times higher than that among junior nurses.Heavy overtime work mediated the association of medical specialty with NSIs.CONCLUSION In addition to promoting the use of safety needles and providing infection control education, managers should review overtime schedules, and medical personnel should be encouraged to maintain a healthy weight. 展开更多

A metabolically healthy status, whether obese or not,is a transient stage with the potential to develop into metabolic disor-ders during the course of life.We investigated the incidence of metabolic disorders in 1078 metabolically healthy Chinese adults from the Shanghai Changfeng Study and looked for metabolites that discriminated the participants who would develop metabolic disorders in the future.Participants were divided into metabolically healthy overweight/obesity(MHO)and meta-bolically healthy normal weight(MHNW)groups according to their body mass index(BMI)and metabolic status.Their serum metabolomic profile was measured using a ^(1)H nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer(^(1)H-NMR).The prevalence of diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia and metabolic syndrome was similar between the MHNW and MHO participants at baseline. After a median of 4.2 years of follow-up,more MHO participants became metabolically unhealthy than MHNW participants. However,a subgroup of MHO participants who remained metabolically healthy(MHO→MHO)had a similar prevalence of metabolic disorders as the MHNW participants at the follow-up examination, despite a signifi-cant reduction in their serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein(HDL)and an elevation in valine, leucine, alanine and tyrosine.Further correlation analysis indicated that serum intermediate-density lipoprotein(IDL)and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(VLDL-CH)might be involved in the transition from metabolically healthy to unhealthy status and could be valuable to identify the MHNW and MHO with increased metabolic risks. 展开更多
