Background At present,the teaching of experiments in primary and secondary schools is affected by cost and security factors.Existing research on virtual experiment platforms has alleviated these problems.However,the l...Background At present,the teaching of experiments in primary and secondary schools is affected by cost and security factors.Existing research on virtual experiment platforms has alleviated these problems.However,the lack of real experimental equipment and use of a single channel to understand user intentions weaken these platforms operationally and degrade the naturalness of interactions.Methods To solve these problems,we propose an intelligent experimental container structure and a situational awareness algorithm,both of which are verified and applied to a chemical experiment involving virtual-real fusion.First,the acquired images are denoised in the visual channel using the maximum diffuse reflection chroma to remove overexposure.Second,container situational awareness is realized by segmenting the image liquid level and establishing a relation-fitting model.Then,strategies for constructing complete behaviors and making priority comparisons among behaviors are adopted for information complementarity and independence,respectively.A multichannel intentional understanding model and an inter-active paradigm that integrates vision,hearing,and touch are proposed.Results The experimental results show that the accuracy of the intelligent container situation awareness proposed in this paper reaches 99%,and the accuracy of the proposed intention understanding algorithm reaches 94.7%.The test shows that the intelligent experimental system based on the new interaction paradigm also has better performance and a more realistic sense of operation experience in terms of experimental efficiency.Conclusion The results indicate that the proposed experimental container and algorithm can achieve a natural level of human-computer interaction in a virtual chemical experiment platform,enhance the user′s sense of operation,and achieve high levels of user satisfaction.展开更多

Phase Two of the Integrative Monsoon Frontal Rainfall Experiment(IMFRE-II)was conducted over the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the period 16 June to 19 July 2020.This paper provides a brief over...Phase Two of the Integrative Monsoon Frontal Rainfall Experiment(IMFRE-II)was conducted over the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the period 16 June to 19 July 2020.This paper provides a brief overview of the IMFRE-II field campaign,including the multiple ground-based remote sensors,aircraft probes,and their corresponding measurements during the 2020 mei-yu period,as well as how to use these numerous datasets to answer scientific questions.The highlights of IMFRE-II are:(1)to the best of our knowledge,IMFRE-II is the first field campaign in China to use ground-based,airborne,and spaceborne platforms to conduct comprehensive observations over the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River;and(2)seven aircraft flights were successfully carried out,and the spectra of ice particles,cloud droplets,and raindrops at different altitudes were obtained.These in-situ measurements will provide a“cloud truth”to validate the ground-based and satellite-retrieved cloud and precipitation properties and quantitatively estimate their retrieval uncertainties.They are also crucial for the development of a warm(and/or cold)rain conceptual model in order to better understand the cloud-to-rain conversion and accretion processes in mei-yu precipitation events.Through an integrative analysis of ground-based,aircraft,and satellite observations and model simulations,we can significantly improve our cloud and precipitation retrieval algorithms,investigate the microphysical properties of cloud and precipitation,understand in-depth the formation and dissipation mechanisms of mei-yu frontal systems,and improve cloud microphysics parameterization schemes and model simulations.展开更多

Automatically extracting useful se- mantic information and generating highlight summary from sports video to facilitate users’ accessing requirements is an important problem, especially in the forthcoming broadband mobile communication and the need for users to access their multimedia in- formation of interest from anywhere at anytime with their most convenient digital equipments. In this paper, a system to generate highlight summaries oriented for mobile applications is introduced, which includes highlight extraction and video adaptation. In this system, several highlight extraction techniques are provided for field sports video and racket sports video by using multi-modal information. To enhance users’ viewing experience and save bandwidth, 3D animation from highlight segment is also generated. As an important procedure to make video analysis results universally applicable, video transcoding techniques are applied to adapt the video for mobile communication environment and user preference. Experimental results are encouraging and show the advantage and feasibility of the system for multimedia content personalization, enhancement and adaptation to meet different user preference and network/device requirements.展开更多

Osteoclasts(OCs)seeded on bone slices either drill round pits or dig long trenches.Whereas pits correspond to intermittent resorption,trenches correspond to continuous and faster resorption and require a distinct as...Osteoclasts(OCs)seeded on bone slices either drill round pits or dig long trenches.Whereas pits correspond to intermittent resorption,trenches correspond to continuous and faster resorption and require a distinct assembly of the resorption apparatus.It is unknown whether the distinction between pits and trenches has any biological relevance.Using OCs prepared from different blood donors,we found that female OCs achieved increased resorption mainly through pit formation,whereas male OCs did so through trench formation.Trench formation went along with high collagenolytic activity and high cathepsin K(CatK)expression,thereby allowing deeper demineralization.A specific CatK inhibitor abrogated the generation of trenches,while still allowing the generation of pits.OCs obtained from bone marrow were more prone to generate trenches than those obtained from blood.Scanning electron microscopy of bone surfaces eroded in vivo showed trenches and pits of similar size as those made by OCs in culture.We conclude that the distinction between trench-and pit-forming OCs is relevant to the differences among OCs from different skeletal sites,different individuals,including gender,and results from differences in colIagenolytic power.This indicates a biological relevance and highlights the importance of discriminating between pits and trenches when assessing resorption.展开更多

Incorporating the forest landscape into farming systems has promoted the development of integrated production systems such as agroforestry. However, many aspects of the relationship between farming and the forest landscape have changed since the modernization of agriculture introduced by the Green Revolution. The objectives of this review are:(1) to contribute to the understanding of the changes in cultivation strategies and in the dynamics of agricultural systems,particularly in the context of farming in Santa Catarina State, Brazil;(2) to contribute to the understanding of agroforestry systems as a strategy to reintroduce the element of forestry into agricultural production systems; and(3) to compile a list of forest plant species that could be used in agroforestry. The approach adopted in this manuscript seeks to highlight the potential of agroforestry systems to conserve natural resources and thereby to support agricultural development by connecting environmental conservation with income for farmers.展开更多
