How Should Introverted EFL Teachers Survive Communication in Class ?

I, an introvert, have observed the introverted EFL teachers in my work place in terms of the characteristics of communica-tion in class since I felt some of my personality traits get in the way in my class. The findings correspond to Brian R. Little's per-sonality psychology.Brian Little has revealed that introverted people lack mutual gazes and tend to talk past each other, and intro-verted EFL teachers are no exception according to my study. In the perspective of personality psychology, avoiding too much eyecontact is not because of a lack of confidence, but a way for introverts to reduce the outside stimulation. This explanation is reason-able but not good for communication in EFL teaching. In fact it is contradicted with the notion that language teachers should be amaster of communication themselves. Then I managed to identify these seemingly anti-social characteristics of communication andseek for some other means to compensate for what might be missed out in class communication. Brian Little clarifies the relation-ship between free trait, core projects and acting out of character. I conduct an empirical study by using questionnaires in which tenhigh-achieving university introverted English teachers with ten-year teaching experiences illustrates their initial problems in EFLteaching as well as their possible solutions. By collecting some characteristics of communication in class, I provide a three-stepcounter strategy for introverted EFL teachers to survive language class communication. First, accept the"weakness"and feel com-fortable with it. Second, set goals to practice it. Third, look for other means to compensate for it. This counter measure conforms toBrain Little's theory on the relationship between"free trait","core project "and"acting out of character". It is expected that thethree-step counter strategy is useful in introverted EFL teacher's pedagogical practice. 展开更多

In this paper, we present a cloud service model of multilingual home-school communications (MHSC) with the Drupal framework to provide a friendly learning environment for the students from transnational marriages. The transnational marriage is a phenomenon with ever-increasing in Taiwan and around the world. For a student who has a transnational foreign mother, home-school communication is often an obstacle because the foreign mother has language difficulty understanding the delivered messages in the communication book from teachers. In order to improve parent-teacher communications for the transnational families, we designed and constructed the cloud service platform with online multilingual communications and translation service functions, such that teachers can prepare different sheets of multilingual messages for home-school communication books and foreign mothers can read the messages from the teachers in their native languages through the web interface. 展开更多

While teachers exhibit hesitation having no preset teaching paradigms at their disposal, learners experience withdrawal in speaking situations that demand interactional ease and socio-pragmatic awareness. Indeed, both the type of instruction and the complexity of this skill make of the teaching of spoken language a highly controversial issue especially with the implicit dichotomy that speaking entails and which opposes accurate mastery of linguistic patterns to ease or facility in meaning transmission. This paper aims at reconsidering the way this dormant skill has been tackled and the interfering variables that should be rethought and revisited while dealing with it. 展开更多

目的分析广东省2003-2007年甲乙类传染病流行特征,为制定和完善传染病防治策略和措施提供参考依据。方法采用文献资料法对广东省2003-2007年的传染病疫情资料进行流行病学分析。结果2003-2007年,广东省共报告甲乙类传染病29种,累计报告... 目的分析广东省2003-2007年甲乙类传染病流行特征,为制定和完善传染病防治策略和措施提供参考依据。方法采用文献资料法对广东省2003-2007年的传染病疫情资料进行流行病学分析。结果2003-2007年,广东省共报告甲乙类传染病29种,累计报告发病1112117例,年均发病率为251.52/10万,总体呈上升趋势;血液及性传播疾病是主要疾病类型,年均发病率为130.92/10万,呈持续上升趋势;肺结核年均发病率最高,为86.50/10万;乙型肝炎居第2位,为84.35/10万;淋病和梅毒年均发病率分别居顺位第3和第4位;艾滋病年均发病率为0.45/10万,2007年达到0.81/10万;传染性非典型肺炎2003年暴发时发病率为1.77/10万。结论甲乙类传染病依然是广东省公共卫生预防和控制工作的重点。 展开更多

目的分析广州市2006-2010年甲乙类传染病流行特征,为今后制定防治措施提供依据。方法利用"疾病监测信息报告管理系统"对广州市2006-2010年报告的甲乙类传染病进行描述性流行病学分析。结果 2006-2010年广州市甲乙类传染病共... 目的分析广州市2006-2010年甲乙类传染病流行特征,为今后制定防治措施提供依据。方法利用"疾病监测信息报告管理系统"对广州市2006-2010年报告的甲乙类传染病进行描述性流行病学分析。结果 2006-2010年广州市甲乙类传染病共报告发病181927例,年均发病率为334.03/10万,高于广东省及全国平均发病水平,总体呈下降趋势。发病率居前4位的甲乙类传染病为肺结核、病毒性肝炎、梅毒和淋病,占每年甲乙类报告总数的90%。麻疹发病率显著下降。中心商业区与城乡结合部为高发地区,发病率较高的职业为家务待业、民工、工人和农民。结论广州市传染病防控工作的重点是降低肺结核、病毒性肝炎、梅毒、淋病的流行强度,同时应防范部分输入性传染病引起本地流行的潜在危险。 展开更多

目的分析1950-2018年浙江省杭州市甲乙类传染病发病特点和流行趋势,明确传染病防控重点。方法从历年传染病报告工作报表和"中国传染病报告信息管理系统"中收集1950-2018年杭州市甲乙类传染病疫情信息,以10年为1个阶段,应用趋... 目的分析1950-2018年浙江省杭州市甲乙类传染病发病特点和流行趋势,明确传染病防控重点。方法从历年传染病报告工作报表和"中国传染病报告信息管理系统"中收集1950-2018年杭州市甲乙类传染病疫情信息,以10年为1个阶段,应用趋势χ^2检验比较各阶段甲乙类传染病发病率、死亡率和病死率趋势,比较分析不同时期甲乙类传染病疾病谱和发病顺位。结果1950-2018年期间,7个阶段甲乙类传染病平均发病率、平均死亡率和平均病死率总体呈现明显下降趋势(χ^2=2608369.10、32135.20和5953.34,P<0.001)。2010-2018年平均发病率、死亡率、病死率与1950-1959年相比分别下降89.68%、98.20%和82.20%。呼吸道传染病、肠道传染病、虫媒和自然疫源性疾病发病率均大幅度下降,7个阶段甲乙类传染病发病顺位变化较大,淋病、梅毒、肺结核取代早期的麻疹、疟疾、百日咳,进入发病前5顺位。艾滋病是在后3个阶段才出现的新传染病,是增长幅度最大且持续增长的严重传染病。结论1950-2018年杭州市甲乙类传染病发病率、死亡率明显下降,传染病疾病谱发生明显变化,建议高度关注性传播疾病(特别是艾滋病)、肺结核、人感染H7N9禽流感、登革热等传染病防治。 展开更多

目的分析2008-2012年贵州省乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病的流行病学特征,为预防和控制该类传染病提供依据。方法采用描述流行病学方法,根据2008-2012年贵州省报告乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病发病资料进行分析。结果 2008-2012年贵州省9个地(... 目的分析2008-2012年贵州省乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病的流行病学特征,为预防和控制该类传染病提供依据。方法采用描述流行病学方法,根据2008-2012年贵州省报告乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病发病资料进行分析。结果 2008-2012年贵州省9个地(州、市)共报告乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病9种6034例,年均报告发病率3.25/10万,各年度报告发病率分别为5.36/10万、4.99/10万、2.66/10万、2.00/10万和1.22/10万,报告发病率逐年下降;报告死亡1192例,年均报告死亡率0.65/10万。报告发病率居前3位的地(州、市)为黔南州(9.27/10万)、黔东南州(5.30/10万)、黔西南州(4.59/10万)。报告发病数居前3位的病种为疟疾2714例、流行性乙型脑炎(乙脑)1558例和狂犬病1118例,占全部病例的89.33%。疟疾发病集中在黔南、黔东南、黔西南州。乙脑病例主要为10岁以下儿童,发病时间集中在7-9月,其中8月为发病高峰。狂犬病病例以农民为主,占狂犬病报告发病总数的61.81%。2008-2012年共报告人感染高致病性禽流感病例3例,均明确有禽类接触史。结论贵州省乙类自然疫源及虫媒传染病总体呈逐年下降趋势,但布病报告率逐年上升,流行性乙型脑炎、狂犬病报告发病率仍居全国前3位,发病有明显的季节性和人群分布特征,应实施重点人群、重点区域、重点疾病、重点环节的防控策略,以预防和控制该类疾病的发生和流行。 展开更多
